Upcoming Demonology Warlock 8.1 Changes

Recommended Posts

In an upcoming 8.1 build, Nether Portal Nether Portal's duration will be decreased to 15 seconds and the damage of demons that come from the portal will be increased by 25%.

Blizzard LogoBlizzard (Source)

In the current build up on the PTR (Public Test Realm), a few changes were made to the Demonic Consumption Demonic Consumption level 100 talent:
  • - Any imp that the Summon Demonic Tyrant Demonic Tyrant consumes now has a chance to grant you the Demonic Core Demonic Core buff. If your Tyrant consumes six imps when summoned, you have six individual chances to get a Demonic Core Demonic Core buff applied to you.
    - The damage buff to the Summon Demonic Tyrant Demonic Tyrant from consuming the Wild Imps is now much higher.

One additional note about the Summon Demonic Tyrant Demonic Tyrant

  • - In an upcoming build, the Summon Demonic Tyrant Demonic Tyrant will also extend the duration of any demons summoned from the Nether Portal Nether Portal level 100 talent.

Can you clarify something? Will it only extend the duration when Tyrant is cast? As in we need to portal, summon as many as possible, and then Tyrant for it to have any effect? Or can we Tyrant, Nether Portal Nether Portal, and chain summon with the extended duration kicking in as they are summoned? I'm presuming it's the former and not the latter.

The Summon Demonic Tyrant Demonic Tyrant extends the summon duration of all demons that are currently active when the Demonic Tyrant is summoned. Demons summoned after the Summon Demonic Tyrant Demonic Tyrant has been cast do not get the duration extension.

All demons, regardless of whether they were active before the Summon Demonic Tyrant Demonic Tyrant summon, or if they were summoned afterwards, should still benefit from the area damage buff (currently 15%) that the Summon Demonic Tyrant Demonic Tyrant provides while the Summon Demonic Tyrant Demonic Tyrant is still active.

A few more changes you will see in an upcoming PTR build:

On the current live version, there is an issue where pets are gaining bonus Energy regeneration from the Warlock's Haste stat at twice the expected value. This is already fixed in the 8.1.0 PTR build and has been for many weeks now. We have made some adjustments to keep the relative value of your pet similar to what it is on the live version:

  • - Felguard, Felhunter, Succubus, and Voidwalker pets have had their damage scaling from the Warlock's Spell Power increased by 15%.
    - Imps have had their spell power scaling from the Warlock's Spell Power increased by 25%.

Another recent change we made was to reduce the duration of the Nether Portal Nether Portal talent from 20 seconds, down to 15 seconds. In an upcoming build, the damage of all demons that can come from the Nether Portal Nether Portal has been increased by 25%.

I still don't think the portal will be that interesting, as it's still clunky. If they just made it so that you got a demon for every shard cast, rather than being everytime you used shards, it might finally work.

If this was the case, then it wouldn't be an interesting ability. It would just be another generic cooldown like summon demonic tyrant, but instead of casting it after you have a bunch of summons out, you cast it before. I like the current design because it actually forces you to change up your rotation when it's off CD, increasing the skill cap of demo locks (the class feels very easy as it stands).

We still have no reason at all to drop Sacrified Souls for the other two talents, if they want us to use that, make SS baseline already.

I dont play one, but I honestly love the way theyre taking Demo.  The variety and sheer numbers of demons is interesting mechanic.

Much closer to what I'd expect a necromancer to play like than the more closely probably related UH DK.

Which to me is just really meh playstyle.

Here's how you can upgrade your legendary weapons in Dragonflight Season 4 next week!
This one is for Fyr'alath and Nasz'uro owners. You must first farm 2 Antique Bronze Bullions. However, you can only acquire 1 Antique Bronze Bullion per week from Awakened Raid bosses. The bullion will drop in Raid Finder difficulty too.
Next week, the cap will be raised to 2 and a catch-up method will be implemented, so players who didn't have the chance to get their first bullion can get it from the weekly quest in Valdrakken.
Anyway, the soonest you can upgrade your legendary to the base item level of 502 is during the week of April 30th (so next week).
Once you have 2 Antique Bronze Bullions, head to the Parting Glass in Valdrakken.

Evokers need to buy Scale of Awakening from Iszinormi for 2 Antique Bronze Bullions. Death Knights, Paladins, and Warriors need to buy Scale of Awakening from Iszinormi for  2 Antique Bronze Bullions. Once purchased, use the consumable to upgrade your legendary to item level 502, the base item level for Season 4.
After that, you can further upgrade your legendary using Flightstones and crests. Check out our gear upgrading guide for more info!

Cache of Timewarped Treasures obtained from Black Temple Timewalking quest this week has a chance to contain Ashes of Al'ar!
Don't forget to complete this week's Timewalking raid! If you're having trouble getting into a group, create your own one, invite 2 tanks 4-5 healers and around 14 DPS and you are all set! Visit Shattrath, and talk to the Timewalking NPC to queue up for the raid.
The raid is extremely easy to compete and what's more, you get item level 493 loot along your way.
Upon defeating Illidan Stormrage and completing the quest, you will receive Cache of Timewarped Treasures that has an increased chance of containing Ashes of Al'ar or another piece of gear.
Demon Hunters shouldn't forget to get their warglaives transmog arsenal from Illidan and the reputation buff will help you add a couple of mounts to your collection!

Tama's Dragonflight Helper is a Weakaura that displays a weekly to-do list in the game and it's been updated for Dragonflight Season 4!
The WeakAura is very useful for keeping track of everything in the game at max level. It shows you a to-do list with the weekly tasks, provides you with the locations of rares, super rares, information about your current Renown standing, and more.

You will find Tama's Dragonflight Helper at wago.io. Please note that you must first download and install WeakAuras 2 to import the string.

Cataclysm's Grim Batol has been added to the Mythic+ Dungeon rotation in The War Within Season 1, and one boss received a brand new model recently on the Alpha.
General Umbriss, the first boss of the dungeon, got a shiny new model, which is quite different from his previous one. Below is a screenshot of the old a new model.
