Upcoming XP Changes Revisited

Experience changes that were planned as part of the 2019 gameplay update are a huge miss on PTR, because the incentives for taking structures are mostly gone. Community Manager Dylan Bates informed the community that the team's making revisions to the experience updates and while they don't have any specifics to share at the moment, we will see a different iteration go live next week.

Hello Heroes -

We wanted to take a moment to address some of the concerns from our community about the experience updates on PTR this week. As with all of our balance changes, the Heroes team spends months internally playtesting and iterating before bringing these changes to PTR for further feedback from our players. Now that PTR is live, our team has been hard at work monitoring the new 2019 experience updates and listening to feedback. Based on this feedback and data, the team is currently exploring making some revisions to the 2019 experience updates to include more incentives for taking Forts and Keeps. We are currently iterating on these changes internally and plan to release an update to the 2019 experience changes in next week’s patch. While we don’t have additional information to share about these changes just yet, know that we are listening and that your feedback is incredibly valuable.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to try out these changes on the PTR and provided feedback. Keep an eye out for more information next week.

They don't exactly say it is reverted, tho, only revised.

And I hope they are not, at least not before we, average casual players, have a chance to try them on live. The whole community freak out is blown out of proportion, and most players haven't even tested out these changes properly yet.

The big change that scares me for the new patch is the across the board hitbox reduction. Hitting skillshots is going to be far harder now and for some heroes (RIP Ana) will significantly affect them in a negative way.

As for the XP changes, people are probably overreacting, though the fact that the devs are listening to feedback and actively communicating with the playerbase makes the HotS team easily better than most Blizzard devs nowadays.

Heck, than most online games actually. Most players of other games when they see how the HotS dev team interact with its community say so.

@Edit: hey Stan, where did you get this banner art? Is the male barbarian coming to the Nexus? XD

Who is the barbarian guy in the banner?

I think it's from early art, there was actually a male barbarian model early in development.

eh, I rather have more incentives to take down other players. You know, enemies that actually have a brain. Well most of them do anyways..

Agreed, many people were against laning changes last year, yet they turned out good.

Harvest the terror's seeds or watch them grow to become your ruin in this week's brawl!
The weekly brawl is a best-of-three-Arena match with shuffle pick and the objective is to collect 100 seeds to win a round. All players start at level 10 and will be asked to pick a Heroic ability. No other talents are available. There's a small chance of all players being the same Hero. Complete three matches to earn a Loot Chest.

Our twenty-fourth Heroes of the Storm Meta Tier list for the month of January is here!
Welcome to Icy Veins's most belated Meta Tier List for the January 8 patch. The goal of this list is to try and detail game's current metagame state. The prime goal of such lists is to inform players regarding popular and trending team composition drafting strategies (i.e. the drafting metagame).

Meta heroes define the metagame. They are very often banned or picked right away, as they generally dictate the pace of most drafts and matches.
Generalists form the core of your team and are generally picked after Meta picks have been distributed. They tend to work on most maps, and as part of and against most team compositions. Since this group includes most heroes, I elected to split it into three tiers. High-tier rankings are a result of performance (i.e. win rates) and popularity (i.e. pick and ban rates). This means that heroes with high win rates can be set in low tier; the opposite may also be true.
Situational picks shine on specific maps or as part of specific team compositions.
Our Meta Tier List has been updated for the January patch!
