Kevin Johnson Leaves Heroes of the Storm Team

Kevin "Cloaken" Johnson announced on Twitter that he's moving off of Heroes to work on another game within the company.

Yet another member of the Heroes team is leaving to work on a different title within Blizzard. Kevin has been the voice of Heroes since its inception. He's been narrating Hero spotlights and the community liked him so much that they requested a Kevin Announcer that was added to the game last November.

He's probably still going to voice new highlights, he did them for SC2, while not being on their team. Still, sucks to see another name leaving, hopefully not to another mobile title. 😑

Calling it right now, they're gonna use his charisma to try and sell us on a new mobile project eventually. Potentially next Blizzcon.

All jokes aside, the reception to Diablo Immortal was just bad enough that, well, chances are there won't be a mobile announcement next Blizzcon. At least not as a focal point, for sure.

I still don't get it the whole shitstorm over Diablo Immortal. They said they wouldn't be showing Diablo 4, as it's too soon, but people still felt disappointed about that...

They actually never called "Diablo 4" by name, only written to lower some expectations. To be honest, at this point it wouldn't surprise me if that "unnanounced Diablo" won't have "4" in title, but some subtitle (it only makes sense, depending how different of a game it's going to be). Hatred is more about what Diablo Immortal turned out to be (reskin of Chinese mobile game, full of microtransactions etc.) and how, to whom (a dedicated PC-centric base) it was presented, although that game may end up being played quite a lot, since this whole drama died down.

Well, it's sort of a complicated answer, so strap in:

Essentialy; It's a shitstorm ENTIRELY of Blizzards own making. On the face of it "Blizzard are making a Diablo mobile game" shouldn't have been the PR nightmare that it was.

It was all down to the presentation and Blizzards catastrophic mishandling of it.

They shouldn't have sent people's expectations up by claiming they had a big Diablo announcement beforehand, sure they then backpedalled by saying that it wasn't D4, but the damage was basically done.

Then they decided to make the Immortal presentation their capstone presentation for some reason, possibly due to a scheduling kerfuffle with Hearthstone having technical difficulties and Overwatch having to get pulled in early, but that's supposition.

They then proceeded FOR NO GOOD REASON to have a live Q&A session about it directly afterwards without a break for anyone to get a burger, put things into perspective and calm the *filtered* down. Even though another general Q&A was scheduled for the next day.

They then, for reasons unknown to anybody, ACTUALLY STARTED ASKING MEMBERS OF THE AUDIENCE TO ASK QUESTIONS.

There is just no angle in which this was a good idea. The game is an entirely Net-Ease made reskin of a pre-existing Diablo close they already have, NOBODY from NetEase was present. What possible answers to anybodies questions could those dumb schmucks onstage have for anybody? Were they expecting questions about the lore? EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN THAT AUDITORIUM PAID OVER $150 TO BE IN THAT ROOM, THEY PROBABLY KNOW THE LORE BETTER THAN THEY KNOW THEIR IMMEDIATE FAMILIES.

They then proceeded to start getting boo'd. At Blizzcon. That's like a Presidential candidate getting boo'd at one of his OWN rallies. At which point some *filtered* decides the best and most professional course of actions is to bellow: "WHATS THE MATTER. DON'T U HAVE PHONES?"

That single sentece proceeded to define and overshadow all of that years Blizzcon, destroy the brand loyalty of everyone in that room (and as I said: $150 ticket: These are the whales they absolutely CAN'T be losing) and cause an overnight drop of 8% in Activision-Blizzard's stock value that continued to drop for almost a month.

Basically what Apologised said plus the handling of the fallout, especially the removal of unfavorable comments and downvotes on the DI trailer. Fun fact: there is actually a website tracking the downvotes on the trailers 🙂

http://diabloimmortalstats.com/

I don't know if it really is true and Blizz actively removed things or if it was - as they claim - just to weed out botted dislikes and likes on negative comments. Again, poor communication and handling of the situation that incited even more rage.

The HotS devs header over to reddit today for another Q&A, and among other things it featured yet another possible tease for Deathwing, with 9 developers (of the 10 there) answering "Yes" to this very specific question: "Are there any heroes currently being worked on that were not in development prior to December 14th 2018? " - 9 letters being the big dragon's name. It's pretty thin, but hey, we'll take whatever we can get.
Other than that we heard about:
Definite new "different" heroes like Abathur, Murky and Cho'gal coming, with some pretty great community ideas like Vek'lor and Vek'nilash or 2 dark templars already coming in. Leech effects like Nano Infusion will affect summons eventually, they're getting to it. D.Va is in line for a talent refresh. The Chen rework is already looking good and might be in our hands "soon". No plans for HotS esports at BlizzCon. The devs focus right now is: Heroes, Reworks, Skins, Skin packs and more. Zagara has made things a bit complicated for future design because of the creep system. Brawls will remain on the current rotation system for a while, but there could be a new one coming. No plans to bring back Haunted Mines. No plans for a map editor. No new maps, but tweaks and overhauls to existing ones.
There's a lot more detail in the reddit post, as well as a whole bunch of "maybe, well see" responses to some great questions, so make sure to read the whole thing if you have the time.
