Patch 8.2: Nazjatar (Zone Preview)

Recommended Posts

dcOpJNg.jpg

Nazjatar is now available for testing on 8.2 PTR and here are screenshots of the new zone!

Queen Azshara will lure both factions into Nazjatar, which is why the zone is surrounded by water walls and shipwrecks in the south. Nazjatar is about 2/3 the size of Argus.

Some parts resemble Zangarmarsh and the zone reuses Azshuna assets. We've taken multiple screenshots of the new zone at night. What do you think?

This zone looks amazing. I mean the old kaldorei buildings surely look dated and the pixelated floor textures haven't got any prettier either, but it's been a while that a zone appealed to me this much on the first sight. Maybe Howling Fjord in WotLK, but back then zones didn't had any other use than to level through them, so I' m looking forward for Nazjatar. If I'm not mistaken Prince Farondis should also return with this patch, so yay \o/ .

Looks great on a first glance, there's also some new World PvP mechanics reminiscent of old zone control in Western Plaguelands / TBC areas, trying it all out atm 🙂

Hopefully it won't feel as cramped as Argus, this is usually main issue with zones added after launch. Looks pretty nice though.

You make one step forward and suddenly 25 mobs come crawling out of the walls, all elites, and charge towards you.

After playing fully through the current PTR version it decidedly doesn't feel cramped at all, if anything there could be more enemy / point of importance density but there's a ton of architecture and different zones to go through, even on full minimum graphics.

What surprised me the most though, was not the storyline quests themselves (which were quite a bit shorter than I expected, maybe because they are not all in yet..?) but that at every step of the journey I would find something unexpected and special, such as a lost murloc who you bring to the faction hub and, it turns out, he sets up very special "murloc shops" with his friends, with whom you can play a trade mini-game somewhat reminiscent of the Zelda series' ones. Or killing about any rare mob, which besides the usual dull, pointless small bit of azerite, gives you a quest-starting item that takes you on a small exploration of the zone for an unusual objective, which is unlocked as "something to do in the zone" after you are done.

Essentially, there's a lot to discover and explore in Najzatar and I wonder how much time will pass until we discover all of it, there's sure to be secrets awaiting as well!

I think it's a good thing then, if zone isn't so crowded with mobs. For that reason I liked some of the old zones, as there was free space to travel and admire, and you weren't always pulling additional mobs when simply wanting to get from one point to another.

Here come the inaugural hotfixes for Patch 8.2 and they're not as huge as the can usually be with a new patch! We have a reduction in points needed for a win in the Nazjatar PvP event, cursed items' negative effects have been reduced, combat allies will show back up in Nazjatar after a rezone and a lot more!
      June 26 (Source)
      Player versus Player
The total number of points required for a faction to win the Battle for Nazjatar War Mode event reduced to 3000 (was 10,000). Quests and World Quests
Players will no longer need to relog to turn in the quest "Saving Corin". Players can now turn in “Scouting the Pens” to Neri. World
Players can no longer loiter at the teleport location for the Heart of Azeroth quest line in Highmountain. Cursed items found in Nazjatar will now take longer to affect your character, and the detrimental effects have been reduced. Fixed a bug where being mounted while interacting with Arcane Device would cause visual issues. Prince Wiggletail is now easier to defeat. Moved certain Chitterspine crabs in Bitterstone Cove that were out of line of sight behind the water wall. Duration of Glimmershell Fluid reduced to 2 minutes (was 30 seconds). Upon re-entering the zone, previously selected combat allies will once again join your side in Nazjatar. Weeping Sanya now spawns upstairs so she no longer interferes with the puzzle World Quest in the same building. Due to many harsh lessons learned from gravity, we are increasing the "Slow Fall" spell duration obtained from the top of Kal'methir Citadel from 15 seconds to 30.

It seems matching of things, be it colors or shapes or whatever, isn't exactly Blizzard's strong suit, as there's a hotfix coming to the latest of these types of quests. The Runelocked Chest world quests in Nazjatar (that you have to unlock - check out our zone guide to find out how) are being tweaked so you don't have to match colors in a row but instead just complete a specified total number of matches. So you don't need to match 5 in a row, but instead let's say match 2 in a row 5 times, which is much easier to do.
      Runelocked Chest (source)
We’re adjusting the “Runelocked Chest” World Quests with a hotfix that changes the requirement from matching colors in a row to completing a specified total number of matches.
I’m not sure how long this is going to take to change, but we’ll have it noted for you in our hotfixes list.

The Crossroads cutscene takes place after the Stay of Execution Scenario of Patch 8.2. This article contains spoilers.
Baine Bloodhoof has been trapped by Sylvanas and the Heroes of both factions work together to save him in the latest chapter of the War Campaign. Jaina probably helped saved Baine, because he turned in her raised brother Derek to the Alliance. It appears that Thrall, Saurfang, and Baine forge an alternative to Sylvanas' Horde, and we will need to wait what Sylvanas is up to in the latest content update. Remember, that she wields Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire and we still need to determine her role in the major conflict against N'Zoth. Here's the cutscene uploaded by MMO-Champion.
