WoW Classic Beta: Sharding Bug

Players are currently reporting instances of sharding on Classic Beta. Blizzard confirmed this to be a bug, as they're not planning to use sharding in Classic and they came up with a completely new technology to ensure a smooth launch and an authentic Vanilla experience.

Seen a couple instances of sharding happening since the last server restart about an hour ago. Blizz, what did you do?

This is a known issue that we are actively investigating. Please continue to report these types of mob-behavior if they are happening in other locations.

They just said it was a bug tho, it’s a beta, this is what we test in a beta.

This is definitely why we do a beta test. We can also do things like reset the realm at a busy time like 4:30pm PDT to try and find the source of a certain issue where a crocolisk is losing it’s brain due to how multiple processes are interacting and mirroring code to form a cohesive world. There were similar types of issues like this back in 2004 but we wanted to try and resolve this one before the weekend for the folks who are testing.

This is something that people really need to start to understand, not just for Classic or WoW but software developement in general. Fixing a bug isn't just flipping a switch or changing a single digit. You have a machine with literally hundreds of thousands of parts, designed by dozens of different people at different times over the course of 20 and more years. You change a single thing and it might break 50 other things in very subtle ways that might not even emerge until months later (i.e. the very high M+ keys some players got at the start of BfA).

One thing they told me when I dabbled into computer science back at university was that 80% of the bugs only take 20% of your time to fix. That's why sometimes you see issues persisting for very long times, not because the devs are lazy or incompetent, but because there is usually a priority list of problems, with the severe-but-easy-to-fix ones always taking precedent and the not-game-breaking-but-difficult-to-solve problems being last line.

      7thLetter created a storytelling submission for BlizzConline dubbed "Vengeance for Teldrassil." Unfortunately, it got denied, but the creator uploaded it to YouTube for everyone to enjoy!
      In the short video, we see the Night Elves attack the Horde for what happened to Teldrassil in Battle for Azeroth. We won't go into any more spoilers, so make sure to watch the video yourself!

      It's been a while since we checked in on the Covenant class and spec distribution from wowranks.io, with a lot more Renown opening up, new Soulbinds and Conduits and some balancing passes as well pushing certain specs towards different Covenants.
      The overall rankings haven't really changed, but the Night Fae lead has expanded since last we checked, taking up 35% of the population, as Necrolords languish at the bottom with only 15%. The numbers are also quite a bit higher since we checked a couple of months ago, as over 2.5 million new characters have been registered.

      But the much more interesting data lies with the classes and specs, as we take a look at the Covenant distribution for each of them! As usual Druids are extremely Night Fae-heavy, with 83% of the shapeshifters choosing the Ardenweald as their home, with Hunters and Mages in close second for the Fae, with 73% and 69%, respectively. For the Kyrian the Paladins are holding the line, coming in at 75%,  with Warriors and Priest representing the Venthyr most with only 57/ 47%. The Necrolords get an eclectic combo with Death Knights and Shamans, coming in at 62% and 52%.
      And the least represented Covenant/spec combos are definitely Necrolord Demon Hunters and Paladins, both coming in around 2%...

      Bound Shadehound is a new mount obtainable in Patch 9.0.5 that will work in the Maw!
      All mounts will work in the Maw in Patch 9.1, but you will be limited to mounts that specifically work in the zone until then.
      Currently, on live servers, you either have to complete Layer 8 of the Twisting Corridors to get Corridor Creeper or get the other one (Mawsworn Soulhunter) from "The Hunt: Shadehound" events in the Maw. Luckily, the third and latest addition will be the easiest to obtain. You will be able to forge the mount by collecting Stygia Dust and Silver in the Maw. The new activity is called Stygia Crafting. Here's how the mount looks like in the game.

      Power Infusion has recently been a hot topic in the community, with the logs being heavily affected by it, as many non-Priest specs are getting a lot of buffs during fights to boost their overall DPS. There's even some drama surrounding who gets the buff, and Shadow Priests not wanting to give it away, which we've recently talked about, but today there's at least a solution to the logs part of the issue.
      Warcraft Logs have added markers for Power Infusion and Innervate, so you can now see not only if a player received one of these buffs during a fight, but also how many! 

      Warcraft Logs creator Kihra explains in detail:
      This should make it a lot easier to track individual player performances and for players to improve through the logs, as it is now clearer whether someone is just outdpsing/outhealing you because they're playing better, or if they just got a bunch of external buffs!

      The half orc half ogre Mok'Nathal finally get some love, as Lonely Road pictures made some concepts for the race! Rexxar's kind don't get much attention in WoW, but they will be featured in an upcoming cinematic by Lonely Road and so they got some pretty cool models ready!
      One of the characters above is having way too much fun and might just be too cool for Wow. Plenty of players would have preferred this particular race to the slightly more generic mag'har we actually got (although straight-backs are always welcome), so we can hopefully see more of them in the future and give those tauren some size competition!
