Patch 8.2 Release Date Speculation: July 9th

Recommended Posts

43010-patch-81-build-30080-initial-datam

Patch 8.2 has been available for playtesting on PTR since April 16 and it's time to start speculating when the patch is going to hit live servers.

Patch 8.1 - Tides of Vengeance

The first major content patch for this expansion was available for testing for 81 days and while we had to wait a long time for Patch 8.1.5 and Battle of Dazar'alor to open, Blizzard clearly stated they want Mythic Season 3, Operation: Mechagon, and Azshara's Eternal raid to be available soon after Patch 8.2 goes live, but if "soon" equates to one week or two remains unknown.

  • Available on PTR: September 21th
  • Release Date: December 11th

What Still Hasn't Been Tested on 8.2 PTR

When determining a possible release date for Rise of Azshara, it's important to take many things into consideration, including things which haven't been tested yet on PTR and those are:

  • Azshara's Eternal Palace Raid (Raid Finder difficulty)
  • Mythic Season 3 Affix: Beguiling

The Heart of Azeroth Essence system seems to be mostly complete, with Conflict & Strife + Vision of Perfection being the toughest to balance.

Patch 8.2 - Rise of Azshara

Rise of Azshara is Battle for Azeroth's second major content patch and the biggest World of Warcraft patch ever, so it's quite logical that it requires more testing than Tides of Vengeance.

  • Available on PTR: April 16th
  • Possible Release Dates: June 25th (70 days of testing), July 2nd (77 days of testing), July 9th (84 days of testing)
    • June 25th doesn't make sense, there's still a lot of testing to be done and the patch is bigger than 8.1 and a shorter cycle (70 days of testing) is simply unrealistic.
    • July 2nd is too close to Independence Day. It wouldn't make much sense to release a patch that requires plenty of hotfix updates over the holidays.
    • July 9th is the first date which seems realistic.

TL;DR

We think the release date of Patch 8.2 is July 9th, with Mythic Season 3, Operation: Mechagon Dungeon, and Azshara's Eternal Raid opening a week later on July 16th. Mythic difficulty of the Eternal Palace raid and Raid Finder Wing 1 would then become available on July 22nd. Obviously, the patch will become available for predownload at least a week ahead through the Battle.net app. When do you think 8.2 is going to be released? Let us know in the comments and don't forget to check out our Patch 8.2 hub for the latest Rise of Azshara news.

This is tangible, even though it did not come from Blizz, and I do appreciate this along with seeing possible release somewhere near July.

That would be really great, also gives my guild plenty of time to fully clear Mythic 8.2 content before WoW Classic comes out 🙂

seems good with the estimates but idk if I want to grind out another reputation just to fly. New content is cool I guess. I actually do wonder though how many players are gonna go back to Classic as opposed to this current content we are getting. I can't see myself going back. We all had a lot more patience with the game then we do now and I might be generalizing when I say we but thats just my opinion.

I would of course prefer next week, but this sounds logical and 4th of July is a very logical reasoning. Let's wait and see... After all, MOTHER's 77 cycle date of May 28 was a bit too optimistic and in the end, didn't happen 😛

This week's bonus event is Burning Crusade Timewalking! Complete 5 Timewalking dungeons for the weekly quest to receive a piece of gear from Normal difficulty Ny'alotha, the Waking City.
Timewalking dungeons drop item level 425 loot. You can get item level 445 loot from Black Temple Timewalking. You can obtain Arsenal: The Warglaives of Azzinoth on your Demon Hunter if you earned the Warglaives of Azzinoth prior. Reins of the Infinite Timereaver has a small chance to drop from all Timewalking bosses as Personal Loot. Blizzard (Source)
      ILLIDAN AWAITS
Head to Outland to face Illidan and his cohorts once more in The Black Temple!
The Black Temple raid is available throughout the Burning Crusade Timewalking event. The difficulty is set to Normal and, like any Normal level raid, will not be available through Raid Finder. To take on this challenge, you’ll need to get your guild or a group of friends together, or head to Group Finder > Premade Groups. The raid scales for your group size (between 10 — 30 players) and your level and gear will be scaled back to match the raid’s challenges.
Want to relive the time you first defeated Teron Gorefiend? Face (face, face) the Reliquary of Souls once more? Witness the showdown between Maiev and Illidan before the final fight? Now’s your chance. Inside you can earn transmog sets, the pets you need for Raiding With Leashes III, a Music Roll: The Burning Legion, and gear drops. And for Demon Hunters, there’s the enticing possibility of obtaining the legendary Warglaives of Azzinoth. Are you, this time, prepared?
DUNGEONS IN THE BURNING CRUSADE TIMEWALKING
All week, open Group Finder (default hotkey: i) and then select Dungeon Finder and Timewalking in the Type dropdown. When you hit ‘Find Group’, you’ll be matched up with other players and sent to one of the following Heroic dungeons:
The Arcatraz The Black Morass Magister’s Terrace Mana-Tombs Shattered Halls The Slave Pens Your character and items will be scaled down to a power level fitting for the challenge at hand, but bosses will yield loot appropriate for your natural level. Timewalking dungeons also have a chance to drop items that usually drop when you run them on Heroic, and you’ll earn reputation with a faction that is interested in the dungeon. For example, when you Timewalk through The Slave Pens, you’ll earn reputation with the Cenarion Expedition, which could open access to purchasing the Cenarion War Hippogryph mount.
Look for the following all week long:
Chronicler Shoopa in Zuldazar or Chronicler Toopa in Boralus has a quest for you has a quest for you. Or, if you forget to pick it up there, you can start it from within the Adventure Journal. Quest requirement: Complete 5 Timewalking dungeons. Rewards: Artifact Power and one loot box containing a piece of gear from Normal difficulty Ny'alotha, the Waking City. EVERY WEEK
The Bonus Events system consists of a rotating schedule of different activities, currently scheduled to run each week beginning on Tuesdays. Each Bonus Event grants a passive bonus to a particular game activity and offers a once-per-event quest with a noteworthy reward for accomplishing a related goal. The in-game calendar can serve as your one-stop reference for the event schedule. The Adventure Guide also offers a direct link to active Bonus Events, allowing you to easily accept any associated quests.

We have another short batch, featuring the N'Zoth and Jaina mounts finally dropping in pairs with resets after some issues last week, as well as Rajani and Uldum Accord paragon caches being turn-inable once more, and a quest fix and Classic getting a tweak that improves performance of a mod.

      Items and Rewards
Fixed an issue that prevented Lady Jaina Proudmoore and N’Zoth the Corruptor from dropping mounts when defeated on Mythic difficulty. Developers’ note: Last week we made a change to increase the mount rewards from defeating these bosses from 1 to 2. However, the hotfix caused an issue that prevented any mounts from dropping, so we’ve reverted it back to the previous iteration as a temporary fix (1 mount rewarded). These bosses will drop 2 mounts with restarts in each region. Quests
Eligible players can again turn in “Supplies from the Rajani ” or “Supplies from the Uldum Accord ” for Paragon Cache rewards. WoW Classic
Fixed a performance issue resulting from communications initiated by the Real Mob Health add-on. Please uninstall the current version of this add-on.

To prevent players from quickly killing world bosses, Blizzard recently added spawn protection for Nalak and Rukhmar, meaning the bosses will be immune to damage for a few seconds after they are attacked so that more players can tag them.
Similar to Sha of Anger (Reins of the Heavenly Onyx Cloud Serpent) and Galleon (Son of Galleon's Saddle), spawn protection has been enabled for Nalak and Rukhmar.
Nalak can be found in Isle of Thunder (Pandaria) and has a chance to drop Reins of the Thundering Cobalt Cloud Serpent.
"This is a descendant of the irascible Nalak. Lightning erupts from its scales and arcs over the saddle. Dare you sit?"

Rukhmar can be found in Spires of Arak (Draenor) and has a small chance to drop Solar Spirehawk.
"Looking into the eyes of this mystical beast is like peering into the heart of the sun. Goggles are recommended when you're riding."

Lady Jaina Proudmoore was not dropping any Glacial Tidestorms on Mythic difficulty after they buffed the drop rate to two mounts per run. As a result, she has been reverted to only drop 1 mount until the underlying issue gets fixed.
Blizzard is currently investigating a bug that affects Mythic Jaina in the Battle of Dazar'alor raid and she now only drops one Glacial Tidestorm until further notice.
Customer Support won't be granting additional mounts while the drop rate is reverted, according to the official support page.

We should have received two mounts after today's hotfix, however after we kill Jaina we receive no mount at all.
We identified an issue were Lady Jaina Proudmoore was not dropping any Glacial Tidestorm mounts on Mythic difficulty. She has been reverted to now drop only 1 mount again while the underlying issue is investigated.

Customer Support will not be granting additional mounts while the drop rate is reverted.
In the latest round of hotfixes, Blizzard buffed the drop rate of Glacial Tidestorm and Ny'alotha Allseer to two per run, because it took up to 20 weeks for a full Mythic group to get the mounts for each member. You can find more details here.
