Essence of the Focusing Iris - Heart of Azeroth Essence Spotlight

Recommended Posts

5cEMXzh.jpg

Essence of the Focusing Iris is a DPS Essence from Mythic Dungeons and its active ability deals damage in a frontal cone. In this spotlight, we're looking at effects and ranks of the Essence.

Essence Effects & Sources

Note:  Some tooltips may be inaccurate before Patch 8.2 goes live. We only had the chance to play around with Rank 3 of the Essence. With increasing ranks, the active ability's cast time decreases and it can be cast while moving and deals more Fire damage. The minor passive grants more Haste and Rank 3 will generate 3 stacks from your first damaging spell or ability.

Rank 1 (Converging Lens of the Focusing Iris Converging Lens of the Focusing Iris)

The initial rank of the Essence can be obtained from Mythic 4+ End-of-Dungeon Challenger's Cache in Season 3 or later.

  • Major PowerFocused Azerite Beam Focused Azerite Beam - Focus excess Azerite energy into the Heart of Azeroth, then expel that energy outward, dealing 4,300 Fire damage to all enemies in front of you over 3 sec. (3 sec cast, 1.5 min cooldown)
  • Minor PowerFocused Energy Focused Energy - Your damaging spells and abilities grant you 0 Haste for 4 sec, stacking up to 10 times. This Haste is lost if you stop using spells or abilities against the initial target.

Rank 2 (Magnifying Lens of the Focusing Iris Magnifying Lens of the Focusing Iris)

The first upgrade is obtained from Mythic 7+ End-of-Dungeon Challenger's Cache in Season 3 or later.

  1. Major PowerFocused Azerite Beam Focused Azerite Beam - Focus excess Azerite energy into the Heart of Azeroth, then expel that energy outward, dealing 4,300 Fire damage to all enemies in front of you over 3 sec. (3 sec cast, 1.5 min cooldown)
  2. Minor PowerFocused Energy Focused Energy - Your damaging spells and abilities grant you 0 Haste for 4 sec, stacking up to 10 times. This Haste is lost if you stop using spells or abilities against the initial target.

Rank 3 (Stabilizing Lens of the Focusing Iris Stabilizing Lens of the Focusing Iris)

Combine 15 Focused Life Anima Focused Life Anima from Grand Challenger's Bounty (weekly Mythic chest) in Season 3 or later.

  • Major PowerFocused Azerite Beam Focused Azerite Beam - Focus excess Azerite energy into the Heart of Azeroth, then expel that energy outward, dealing 87,470 Fire damage to all enemies in front of you over 3 2.6 sec. Castable while moving. (3 1.2 sec cast, 1.5 min cooldown)
  • Minor PowerFocused Energy Focused Energy - Your damaging spells and abilities grant you 31 Haste for 4 sec, stacking up to 10 times. This Haste is lost if you stop using spells or abilities against the initial target. When you have no stacks of Focused Energy, generate 3 stacks from your first damaging spell or ability.

Rank 4 (Biconcavic Lens of the Focusing Iris Biconcavic Lens of the Focusing Iris)

Complete the Battle for Azeroth Keystone Master: Season Three Battle for Azeroth Keystone Master: Season Three achievement in Season 3 or later to get the final cosmetic upgrade for the Essence. Effects will be the same as on the previous rank.

You say in the first paragraph how the essence comes from islands, but the rest of the article is about obtaining it from mythic plus content.

great, YaY more cramming M+ down our throats.  I despise the lootbox system, I flat out don't do them.

I LOVED vanilla and heroic TBC dungeons, and to an extent CAT.  since somewhere in MOP I quit the BS, now its even worse.

before someone says "get good baddie" I'm a former Realm First raider /retired ( look up armory.)

so....  easy mode M+ gives dps increase and furthers the M+ tiny team adventure, of pugtards with gearscore or raider io whatever they call the BS now.

how about attunments and keys? a mission to go on? instead of group with some jerkoff tools who know nothing of dungeon strat.

If youre worried about M+ keys and dont remember the pain of struggling through raid-level content im not sure what to tell you.

If you're making use of the XP buff leveling new characters and you're tired of the Warlords of Draenor intro questline, which involves Khadgar, there's a workaround at level 90 to skip it and here's how.
Note that the Warlords of Draenor intro rewards a fair amount of XP these days, and you are sacrificing it to save time with the skip.
At level 90, you must head to Khadgar and complete the intro prologue to Draenor. While the intro gives you a fair amount of Experience with the double XP buff, chances are you could have grown tired of completing it over and over on multiple characters.
We recommend using the skip ideally if you have:
Unlocked Draenor Pathfinder (flying in Draenor), because you will end up in Gorgrond and it will take you some time to head back to your Garrison to start questing; Inflatable Mount Shoes on a mount for water walking in case you have no flying unlocked, which makes it less painful reaching locations and unlocking your Garrison. At level 90, take the portal from Stormwind/Orgrimmar to Jade Forest and head to the Timeless Isle in Pandaria (see map below for exact location). There, you will find an underwater cave with chairs. Sit on them and click the campfire to teleport to Gorgrond.

From there, you can head to Iron Docks if you have a flying mount, and the flight master will take you to your Garrison even though they (the flight masters) aren't marked on the map.

We have some more art-related content, but this time around it's not just fans painting their favorite characters, but actually transforming WoW into a painting - and without using any mod! Now, there's plenty of mods already out there that you can use to change the game's aesthetics, but with Blizzard's recent tightening of EULA enforcement, it could possibly be risky using some of them (although they've been mostly safe to use so far).
This one requires an Nvdia card and is much, much easier than putting a mod in, you just need the Geforce app and to click a few things, and your game could be looking like this (just click on the image and the video will play):
As noted by the poster, kathrad_, this also messes with the UI, so you're either going to have to just use it to marvel at the visuals around the world, or be really good with your spec rotation, as you won't really be seeing much of the UI. Also, perhaps don't go raiding or doing high M+ keys, as ground effects and similar probably won't be as noticeable.
Interestingly, there are plenty of people in the reddit thread that actually didn't note the difference in the look of the game, saying that the above just looks like regular Darnassus! I guess it's been on fire for so long people have a very painterly memory of the once Night Elf capital.
If you have some great mods that alter the game's look, share em below and let's see just how much WoW can be changed.

While it's no surprise many game developers and producers spent time playing WoW, hearing that Valve co-founder and internet santa Gabe Newell actually spent time intensively farming gold in it is slightly more surprising. While talking to Edge magazine (issue 344) he mentioned how, while doing research on games as productivity platforms, he decided to farm gold in World of Warcraft to see if it was worth it.
And he turned out to be pretty good at it, as his efforts started netting him around $20 per hour, which in turn proved to him that the concept was sound and that realization lead to the addition of the Steam Workshop, where Steam users could create their own content for the games they were playing, starting with the now legendary Team Fortress 2 hats, and peaking with the insane prices for certain CS: GO skins.

This particular skin went for over $60,000, with a signature
of a pro player, and it's "only" worth $20,000 without it.
And so, without the monotony of gold farming, we may not have gotten the Steam Workshop, so the next time you're feeling annoyed at having to grind that 5 mil for the Brutosaur, just think of all the things we wouldn't have had if items in WoW were cheaper!
