Metzen Tweets About Classic, Thrall and More

Recommended Posts

As we've seen, a whole lot of people are either returning to experiencing the origins of WoW all over again, and Chris Metzen, former Senior Vice President of Story and Franchise Development and creator/lore overseer of the Warcraft universe, (who left Blizzard 3 years ago, which you can read more about here) is one of them.

We hadn't heard from him in a while but it seems he dove into Classic and braved the queues, seemingly reigniting his love of the game, and definitely taking him back to the old days, as he's started tweeting about WoW a whole lot more.

In addition to a few direct tweets, he's also been interacting with players through replies and answering some lore questions as well:

And we also got this little gem about his BlizzCon opening ceremony speech performances:

We even got some Warcraft movie behind the scenes info:

And finally, we have an amazing art piece commissioned by the man himself, featuring everyone's favorite orc and his family, that also inspired many followup questions, and we found out Thrall's daughter's name!

It's great to hear from him on WoW topics again and to see he's enjoying Classic!

Pretty much, you go through classic, finding random books on the ground or in a 5 man with heavy lore that's not actually part of the questlines, it's just story for the sake of fleshing out the world.

Then you remember storylines from BFA like Tyrande saying "Not killing Saurfang caused Darnassus to fall" (!???!?).    And how most of the really important lore is sold outside the game in the form of books that are kinda referenced but not really in game, oversights like what are the Draneii and super powerful Vindicar doing, why are the Titans we just met not being asked to help with their Sister Azeroth's problems, etc. 😕

> The ‘achievement’ being holding it together while waiting on looting ground objects in Coldridge. :) It’s so amazing seeing so many players together again!!!!

It was exactly because of this that we started having instanced expansion intros and players could choose their zones when leveling through expansion content - it was a pain in the *filtered*.  But it's exactly the pain in the *filtered* stuff that people are most nostalgic about.  I haven't exactly figured out why that is, but it's certainly interesting.

This article explains pretty well why that is. The word "nostalgia" comes from the Greek nostos ("return home") and algos ("pain"). So in order words, it is a sense of dread for familiarity, for something that was lost, but in a good way.

The nostalgia that people have for Vanilla WoW is that sense of discovering something new, fresh. Back when WoW launched, everything felt new, massive in scale, and achieved what no other MMORPG at the time could even dream of. It is a feeling you'll only experience once. Even if you return to WoW Classic, that feeling won't be the same because you've already experienced it before.

The titan part is because they 1. have to hold Sargeras, which is infinetaly more powerful than them for several reasons at this point. 2. They do not posess their former powers, at all. You can clearly see this in game, and read/hear about it in game. Just by sheer logic you can see that they were weakened. Aman thul could rip out an old god with is hands back in the days, now he's destroyed, like all the others. Reason being; Sargeras destroyed their materialistic bodies long ago. Their spirits survived thanks to the magic one i can't remember right now (titan). They managed to reform, but not with true power.

Update: The second theory has been debunked, as it's predicted items did not show up in today's list!
We have some possibly good news for all the people still chasing their perfect Corruption setup (which would be most players everywhere), as two separate theories have come up predicting which Corruptions will appear at what time in MOTHER's shop. Both theories are based on the Corruptions that we've seen so far, so neither has the full info for all Corruptions yet and both predict entries in different time frames, so their predictions don't conflict with each other.
First off we have Dorovon, from Big Dumb Guild, who has actually datamined some hotfix data and come up with a possible pattern there, with cycles of linked Corruptions repeating. Now, this data might not actually be linked to the vendor at all, but we can't know that yet. From that base, Shiftmage created this spreadsheet which tracks all the upcoming Corruptions, but its first prediction comes on July 16th, as that's when the supposed "cycle" will start repeating.

An additional problem here is that even if the data is linked to the vendor, it might simply randomize the order once it comes to the cycle reset point. We won't know whether any of this is reliable until June 16th, when the first prediction will either come true or not. You can check out the spreadsheet here for more details, and read a more detailed analysis of the datamining itself here.
*The below theory has been proved to be incorrect*
The second theory is much simpler and we'll find out whether it's correct a whole lot sooner - tomorrow on the next reset, in fact! Limit's Imfiredup has created a much more direct prediction, potentially figuring out the pattern for (only) the stat-based Corruptions.

We simply keep in mind we're now on cycle 4, which would indicate the next reset, coming tomorrow, should have Expedient 1 and Versatile 2, so it won't take long to see if this is correct. Just so it's easier to keep track, cycle 5 would be (US) Tuesday's reset, aka 02.06, 6 would be Friday 05.06, 7 would be Tuesday 09.06 and cycle 8 would be Friday 12.06.
You can check out how Imfiredup came to these number in the clip below:

Now, obviously both of these have a lot going against them, and it's all very speculative at this point, but it'll be pretty exciting to see if either of them managed to get it right. Perhaps Blizzard will even see the interest players have in actually knowing when which Corruption will appear and share the correct schedule themselves?

Dredwing mounts are bat-like creatures that are probably native to Revendreth given that the whole zone has a vampire vibe to it. Check out our preview of the mounts for more details.
The mount comes in four colors: green, purple, red, and stone.
      Silvertip Dredwing

      PH Purple Dredwing

      Horrid Brood Dredwing
Harika the Horrid terrorized the denizens of the Forest Ward yet with her demise her broodlings under proper direction can now take this horror to denizens farther afield.

      PH White Dredwing

We're back to tiny batches (probably due to the Ineffable Truth fix being cancelled), as we only get 1 fix today, with a MoP NPC quest giver returning!
