WoW Classic City Tour: Stormwind

Recommended Posts

If you're playing WoW Classic, chances are you'll find it cumbersome to navigate through main cities which is why Blizzard posted a handy city guide, starting with Stormwind.

Tip: If you're having trouble finding trainers, vendors, weapon masters, and other NPCs, talk to a guard, pick whatever you're looking for and the location will be marked on your map ("M").

Navigating the capital cities in of Azeroth is a different affair in WoW® Classic. Finding the trainers and supplies you need can take a little extra time to adjust to, so we’ve put together a handy guide to point you in the right direction.

A city navigation guide? Really? I thought people have become generally better at videogames over the years, not the other way around.

I don't think people have become better at video games, in fact that's probably the opposite. Because of the amount of games competing to get people's time and money, games need to be addictive and give you an immediate sense of satisfaction with as little hurdles as possible. In that present landscape, Classic is one of a kind.

What people have become better at, on the other hand, is searching the web for solutions to video games. Back in the days, you had to try harder, or talk to your real-world friends for hints, or buy a magazine one or two months later for the solution. So it cost you efforts, time, social interaction and possibly money. Nowadays you just google for the solution and usually you get it under a minute for free.

So by publishing such guides, Blizzard simply wants to ensure that the traffic will go to them instead of third-party web sites. It also shows that they care about their players by listening to their feedback and improving their experience. Of course you can argue that they could improve city navigation in the game itself, however they also have to stick to the Classic spirit. The last thing they want to do is to make things easier in Classic and move slowly towards retail WoW, especially just a few weeks after Classic was released. Doing so would send the very wrong message. By providing the information on their web site instead, they give hard-core and nostalgic players the chance to stick to the difficulty level they expect from Classic, while still offering mainstream players an easier navigation. You don't have to look at the web site if you don't want to.

Its a guide, probably took them half an hour to make, and it helps people who are transitioning into (or, i guess starting fresh?) into classic, without just saying

"Look at wowhead."

We got plenty of guides here, but its pretty easy to find things on Stormwind and other cities - just ask a guard!

There's a whole lot more free moves coming tomorrow from pretty much all US and OC servers, in addition to the already ongoing moves to Latin American and Brazillian realms. While the transfers start tomorrow, there's no end date listed, however moves will be closed as soon as a target realm reaches high population. With layering being removed completely soon, and already at a bare minimum now, these moves come at a pretty good time.

It seems there was a short-lived bug in Dire Maul North that allowed the buff the guards gave after completing a tribute run to stack! A hotfix has been deployed around 30 minutes ago and that is no longer the case, so if you managed to snag some extra power you've had your fun and it's now fixed!

A hotfix was applied to all realms 30 minutes ago that squashed that bug. The buffs obtained from the guards in Dire Maul North after completing a tribute run will no longer stack.
Thank you for your feedback on it!
You can also check out our DM guides as well as an official preview for the dungeon here.

It's been a while since we got word that something weird was happening with the auras in Classic, with several aspects that affect them already resolved. Today we have further progress on that, namely the part where some item enchants were using up slots and thus knocking off helpful buffs like Power Word: Fortitude and the like, as the issue has been partially fixed. There are still some item enchants that require a slot, but that's what it was like in 1.12 as well so it's staying. Check out the full details below:
      October 15 (source)
With scheduled maintenance earlier today, we applied the following hotfix:
      WoW Classic
Enchantments on gear should no longer count as helpful auras. They now count as passive auras. There are still some enchantments occupying helpful slots – notably, the Arcanum enchants that will come from Dire Maul and other enchantments that are applied via item rather than via the enchanting profession. This was the case in our 1.12 reference.
      Thank you very much!
