Recommended Posts

Arcane mages are getting some love with next week's maintenance, with an 8% buff to all damage! You can check our or Arcane DPS guide to get prepared for next week in case you want to change things up a little.

We’re working on a tuning adjustment for Arcane Mages. With realm maintenance next week, we plan to:

Classes

  • Mage
    • Arcane
      • Damage of all abilities increased by 8%.

As always, this change is a work in progress. We’ll let you know if we change plans, and you’ll see the final adjustment in the final hotfixes notes.

Thank you!

I'm leveling a UD mage as frost and I'm bored. I was considering to switch to Arcane, i guess it's the right time

The way arcane works in general actually lends itself rather well to leveling. You don't get as much CC and slows as frost of course but you can put out some real nice burst

To be honest, I'm having more fun leveling as Arcane, than frost. In the end of the day its more about the fun than the overall damage

For sure, just carry your arcane charges from mob to mob and drink as needed for mana. But it doesn't do well when swamped by mobs. If you're leveling efficiently by pulling multiple packs Frost will do a lot better.

I've heard something similar, seems arcane is op for leveling.

The issue with Arcane has never been about the damage.  Arcane is insane burst.  The issue is the mechanics.  I would stand for less burst if it meant my overall damage didn't suffer. If you don't execute the conserve phase of your rotation properly, your damage will tank.  Not to mention that any movement in a fight and Arcane's damage is dumpster level.  We need talent diversity.  Right now, there's really only one viable spec for ST, and one viable spec for AOE, and if you focus on one you will do garbage DPS in the other, there's no middle ground.  Sure, you can choose some AOE talents during an AOE fight and still focus on ST damage on the boss, but it will show on the meter.  I've been kicked from many raids because, while my iLvL is 434, my dps is on par with some classes at 415.

Game Director Ion Hazzikostas has confirmed that the Dracthyr race will have more class options in The War Within. However, this feature may not be ready in time for the expansion's launch.
This update was highlighted in a tweet by MrGM, who shared insights from a London content creator interview about the Dracthyr.
The plan is to introduce the ability for Dracthyr to play as other classes in War Within. Emphasis on playing in Visage form. Required animations for other classes are actively being worked on. The implementation is unlikely to happen at launch, but targeted for early in the expansion cycle. Placeholder for tweet 1780748422066188399
