Recommended Posts

Update: The official Diablo 4 site has gone up and has a lot of additional info: each class has their own page with small previews of some skills and lore, we have a seemingly placeholder world page and a story page that goes over the basics of this installment.

After all the massive speculation, leaks and a whole lot of waiting, we finally got to see Diablo 4 in action! We have the cinematic, gameplay trailer and PvP has been announced and there's a playable demo on the BlizzCon floor! The cinematic depicts a cult summoning Lilith and blood is the key, with unsuspecting adventurers used to summon her:

For more details check out our BlizzCon 2019 Content Hub!

And here's the gameplay trailer!

We'll be updating this post with all the news from the announcement.

  • PvP announced in certain zones.
  • Coming to PS4 and Xbox One as well as PC.
  • Barbarian, Sorceress and Druid classes announced.
  • Playable demo at BlizzCon floor.
  • In-engine cinematics featuring characters to carry the story across.
  • Occult rituals, darkness, back to the series' roots.
  • The world of D4, Sanctuary, will be front and center. Every character, monster and faction will have a sense of place. Drowned undead, goatmen from the mountains etc.
  • Dark, gothic, medieval version of hell.
  • Reverence to the origins.

You can also check out the recent Art of Diablo post with all the images relating to Diablo 4, which gives it even more of a dark and gothic vibe.

    • Thanks 1

Im not gonna lie, I am pretty excited for this. The gameplay looks fantastic and even more dark and gloomy than Diablo 3. That cinematic alone was just fantastic and probably the best so far! I hope this game turns out really well!!!!

Style seems slightly darker but it is still a bit similar to D3. The only thing I don't like are the mobs flashing when heroes hit them. Intro was great, hopefully they will add some more classes. Too bad there is no Witch Doctor and no gender selection, it seems. There is only "sorceress", so is it going to be like D2 with locked gender/class combos?

The good stuff - PvP and Trading
    The unclear:
Darkness - Dark visuals? Sure, why not. I hope it will be so in the sense that the game will be punishing, not user friendly, with hard drops and more like D2. Diversity in char building will come along should the other aspects are there. I fear we saw skills from D2, but gameplay more like D3, no hit recovery, no dead heroes, only dead mobs. At any rate, one can hope!

Totally agree on the artistic direction; looks a lot more like a misted-up Diablo III than a three-dimensional Diablo II. At times I caught myself thinking, “Hey, they’re just outside Leoric’s Manor there. Highland Walker is gonna pop up any second.” Which also means I’m not convinced it’s both different and still Diablo enough to be absolutely outstanding instead of just great. And, facing the same burden of legacy as Amazon.com’s scheduled “Lord of the Rings” show, it better be the former, or fans will be seething.

As for gender selection – that itself might be a precarious concept to include for today’s video game maker on the run. Not sure 631 perceived genders with customization options fit on a standard hard drive, so best to just not touch that hot potato. ?

Fortunately, it has been confirmed through artwork and demo that there will be a gender selection. Even some appearance options like skin tone and hair.

A few days ago, Diablo 4 Beta appeared in the Battle.net Catalog. However, Rod Fergusson dispelled all rumors about the Beta in just one tweet claiming it was just an internal only test.
We've got some sad news for everyone who expected an early Diablo 4 Beta. Senior Vice President of the Diablo franchise commented on Twitter that the Diablo 4 Beta showing up on Battle.net was intended only for internal testing.

In an interesting turn of events, it seems those participating in the Hell's Ink tour, where you can get free Diablo tattoos at select locations, will actually be receiving beta access to Diablo 4!
Now, unfortunately the invite does not mention any sort of timeframe for the beta, but the tattooed will also receive a free copy of the game!

In case you are really desparate for an eventual beta key or are just looking for a great Diablo-themed tattoo, you can find out more about the event and future locations here, as it lasts another 2 months and is heading to Chicago, New York, Miami, and Europe next!

In terms of any  Diablo 4-related dates, the only official information we have is that the game is releasing in 2023.

Diablo 4 is slated for release in 2023. Will the game be added to the Game Pass after the Microsoft Activision deal is complete?
Windows Central editor Jez Corden tweeted that the "Microsoft will reportedly add Diablo 4 to the Game Pass after the deal closes". Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard is expected to close by June 2023.
Placeholder for tweet 1536056968531550209 When Microsoft acquired Bethesda, the games produced by the studio were added to the Game Pass in just a few days following the acquisition. It would definitely be great for Microsoft to have Diablo 4 on the Game Pass, don't you think?
