We're getting a bit of a revamp to our favorite launcher, with a lot more overview over all its aspects, from the games themselves (with the Activision ones thankfully being given a bit less prominence), the friends list and more! And we can all try it out right now!

Check out our BlizzCon 2019 Content Hub for all the latest details!

We’ve been hard at work on new features for the Battle.net Desktop App, and we wanted to show you a preview of what we’re developing. Starting today, anyone who’s opted in to test Battle.net updates can try out our beta.

Though we’re improving the look and feel of Battle.net, we also want to keep this preview familiar and easy to use. Here’s what to expect.

The most obvious difference between the beta and its full-release sibling is a refreshed user interface. We’ve heard many of you loud and clear: You want more control over your game navigation, and you’d like your friends and chats to be easily accessible. You’ll also notice that we’ve updated the stories view for each game, so you can see more recent updates and highlights. To see all the updates in the Battle.net beta, check out our patch notes.

If you didn’t sign up to test new versions of Battle.net, but you want to, log into the Battle.net Desktop App, head to the “Beta” menu in "Settings", and opt in to try future patches before they’re officially released.

We’ll continue making the Battle.net App more user-friendly, more informative, and more customizable. We want it to help you connect with your friends and play games quickly and easily.

If you have any thoughts about what would make the app a better experience for you, please use the app forums to send us your feedback.

We’ll see you in-game!

Worse. Way worse. The one thing they needed to do is put the friends panel to the right of the current one.
Perhaps they needed/wanted to redo some of the guts of the system that's why the drastic rework.. but the design didn't have to change.
The current one with the changing artworks has so much more soul. Also, we are just used to the games being listed in the left side, so why move them to the top? I hope this part will be customizable at lest (unless it is and I missed it).

A global maintenance is scheduled for later today and all Blizzard services will be unavailable from 22:00-23:00 CEST.

      (Source)
As many players noticed, there’s an extra maintenance time scheduled for 22:00-23:00 CEST tonight, 6 October.
This maintenance is for a global infrastructure upgrade, so we need to carry it out at the same time for all of our services around the world. We chose this time for having the least global impact, but recognize that it is not ideal for European players, especially those in Western time zones.
We’re hopeful that the actual maintenance will be completed in a matter of 15-30 minutes, and while players will likely be unable to log-in during this maintenance, we won’t need to shut down realms. Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee the stability of the game service during this timeframe.
      Thank you.

Later today, Blizzard is making Battle.net global, meaning friends lists from different territories will be merged into one, so you won't need to switch regions in Battle.net. This excludes China.
      (Source)
      We’re breaking down barriers.
We’ve always envisioned Battle.net as a place for players to connect, collaborate, and play their favorite games. Now, we’re realizing that dream on a truly global level.
“When Battle.net first came out, the purpose was to deliver a connected, multiplayer experience for a single title,” says Arron Goolsbey, VP of Platform Engineering for Battle.net. “Fast-forward 10 to 15 years, and Battle.net had evolved into a service that spanned all Blizzard games but was still constructed with the primary notion that players would mostly play with others within their region. The internet has come a long way in the last 10 years, enabling global and cross-platform experiences with high levels of quality. So now, Battle.net is evolving once again.”
Starting today, friends lists from different territories will be merged into one*, so you’ll no longer need to switch regions in Battle.net to talk to your buddies on the other side of the planet. “As Global Battle.net rolls out, players around the world will be able to come together all across the larger Blizzard ecosystem without any hurdles for the first time ever,” says Diana Hubbard, Platform Design Manager. In doing so, they will be able to effortlessly expand their friendships, groups, and communities—paving the way for forging new bonds over our present and future epic gaming experiences. This is just the first step, and it will only get better from here.” To accent this new era of global gaming and social connectivity on Battle.net, we’ve also updated our logo.

“We realized some time ago that our players would be better served by a global Battle.net that did away with the concept of regions,” says Jeff Allison, Lead Product Manager for Battle.net. “But breaking down these barriers was a significant engineering task. Now that we’ve done it, we look forward to a future where all Battle.net players can communicate and game together no matter where they are.”
Battle.net’s global updates also include cross-platform functionality. This has given our game developers the ability to let you play with others between PC and console seamlessly. Overwatch players will be the first to experience these new cross-play capabilities; for more information, check out this blog.
“You will be able to make friends anywhere as games published on Battle.net begin to utilize this evolved experience,” says Goolsbey. “We look forward to a future where billions of players worldwide can make friends and play together, regardless of where they are and what device they play on.”
These backend updates to Battle.net will also enable developers to build even more globally connected experiences for our players in the future, so stay tuned!
       *Excluding China.

5 Tips to Save the Multiverse
For anyone who is coming in brand new to the game, check out these handy tips for a smooth start to your journey.
      1. Retro or Modern mode? Take Your Pick. In Retro, players have a limited number of lives. Run out and restart the level. In the Modern setting, you always continue from the last checkpoint. The gameplay difficulty in each mode is the same, so you can switch between settings at any time without losing out on any rewards. Experiment and find what works for you.
      2. Leave No Crate Unsmashed. Calling all completionists! Crates might be shoved into every corner and side path along the way. Explore everything and leave no crate unsmashed!
      3. Wumpa for Gems. Need a new style? Collect at least 80% of the Wumpa fruit in a stage to secure three of the six available gems in each main path level.
      4. Get N. Verted, Get New Digs. The N. Verted levels contain additional gems that you can use to unlock skins. Plus, unlike normal boss levels, defeating a boss in N. Verted mode unlocks a new skin.
      5. Get Crazy, Have Fun! The Crash Bandicoot series is all about crazy precision platforming, and it’s no different in Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. Get playing and discover expansive new worlds, unexpected allies, larger-than-life boss battles, and oh so much more!

      25 Years of Crash
Don’t fur-get, this isn’t Crash’s first rodeo. In fact, Crash and Coco have some skeletons in the closet – literally. Celebrate 25 years of N. Sanity with Bare Bones skins for Crash and Coco, free in Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time upon completion of the game’s second level.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is available now on Battle.net for $39.99 SRP. Purchasing the game on Battle.net will also grant players the Totally Tubular Skins, some truly radical digs for Crash and Coco, available upon completion of the game’s second level.
      * On PC Battle.net, 4K will be supported based on players’ PC specs; framerate is uncapped, and the game will target 60FPS when playing with recommended specs. Internet connection is required to play on PC.
For more information on the Crash Bandicoot franchise, visit www.crashbandicoot.com and follow @Crashbandicoot on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, as well as developer Toys for Bob on Twitter and Instagram.
