The 15-Year WoW Anniversary Event Starts This Week!

Recommended Posts

The 15-year WoW anniversary event starts this week aka today (Tuesday) in the Americas and tomorrow/Thursday in the EU and Asia, respectively. This means we can get some gifts and start reliving some epic BC, WotLK and Cata boss encounters with the Memories of Azeroth event, leading us straight into Deathwing's arms. Or well, wings. Look, you get the Deathwing mount when you complete the event, ok?

We also get to experience Alterac Valley once more and get even more mounts there, with the Stormpike Battle Ram on the Alliance side and the Frostwolf Snarler for Horde. There's also rewards that don't have to do anything for, namely Lil'Nefarian and some XP and rep gain boosters, fireworks and a new Heaarthstone that takes us to the Cavers of Time!

And we'll have plenty of time to get all this done, as the event lasts until January!

This November marks the 15th anniversary of World of Warcraft, and we have some special things planned to commemorate the occasion.

    When: November 5, 2019 – January 7, 2020 (The Americas)
    November 6, 2019 – January 8, 2020 (Europe)
    November 7, 2019 – January 9, 2020 (Asia)

    New Raids: Memories of Azeroth

Chromie has separated the strands of time, allowing you to go back and relive epic raid encounters from Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, and Cataclysm. Each of these limited-time raids will feature three iconic bosses, and they’ll be available as their own wings through the Raid Finder.

To enter the raid, you need a minimum item level of 380. Players who complete all three wings will receive the achievement Memories of Fel, Frost and Fire which grants the Obsidian Worldbreaker, a Black Dragonflight mount inspired by Deathwing.

Return to Alterac Valley of Olde

Run down your enemies, raze their fortifications, and exchange the tokens you loot from their corpses to summon mighty reinforcements in Korrak’s Revenge, a throwback Battleground inspired by the earliest days of Alterac Valley.

Players who participate in Korrak’s Revenge and complete the Alterac Valley of Olde achievement can earn two new mounts: the Stormpike Battle Ram (Alliance) and the Frostwolf Snarler (Horde).

    Anniversary Gift

Get ready to celebrate 15 years of World of Warcraft in style! Everyone who logs in during the event period will receive an Anniversary Gift in the mail, which includes a Lil’ Nefarian battle pet, a Celebration Package that increases experience and reputation gains throughout the event, a reusable firework that can be used for the duration of the event, an item that teleports you to the Caverns of Time (usable only during the event), and other in-game goodies.

    Recruit A Friend Rewards
This pocket-sized Lord of Blackrock is too small to call out any classes, but he can still dish up a good insult.

These events and rewards are available to experience this week in all regions. We’re looking forward to celebrating 15 epic years with you!

Check out our previews for the event here:

Is it year of the dragon or something? there's so many of them.

It's almost like the Black Dragonflight is being setup as relevant again.

That feeling when you contemplate re-subbing to get the mount and achievement then unsub... but then realize this "free mount" essentially becomes a $20 store mount 🤣

I got the mount. Let me use it for a few hours now it’s saying I have not collected the mount. But when I go to my achievements I’ve still got the achievement completed. Why is that

Visions of N'Zoth is Battle for Azeroth's final major content patch, where we take the battle to N'Zoth himself and visit Ny'alotha. Our hub covers everything you need to know about Patch 8.3 and helps you stay on track if you haven't been playing the game for a while.
        Patch 8.3 Release Date
Blizzard revealed after BlizzCon that Patch 8.3 will go live in January 2020.
Game Director Ion Hazzikostas talked about Visions of N'Zoth in the latest Content Preview on October 7. We learned pretty much everything about the new patch, and in the following section, you're going to find its main features:
Invasions return to the game once more, and this time, they're called Assaults. The Vale of Eternal Blossoms and Uldum will be periodically under assault by N'Zoth's forces, and your goal is to drive them back by completing quests and interacting with various objectives to complete the "emissary." Blizzard uses technology and everything they've learned from Mechagon and Nazjatar in this new iteration of Assaults to ensure dynamic replayability. Assaults are mandatory if you want to enter Horrific Visions.
Initial Preview of Assaults in Visions of N'Zoth Horrific Visions
Described as alternate realities where N'Zoth's power is ascendant, these are 1-5 player "scenarios" of Stormwind and Orgrimmar, where you need to complete various objectives for rewards. Horrific Visions revolve around a new mechanic called Sanity, which starts draining as soon as you enter a Horrific Vision. Your goal is to complete as many side objectives as possible and defeating the mini-boss before your Sanity is completely depleted.
To help you with that, we've got Wrathion with a new Legendary Cloak and a Titanic Research Archive for Horrific Visions with perks that gradually trivialize the feature. You will be also able to buy various items from Wrathion after completing the Black Empire intro questline.
Wrathion Selling Various Items in Patch 8.3 Ny'alotha, the Waking City
We will be facing N'Zoth in Ny'alotha, the new twelve-boss raid located in Uldum. It comes with a raid skip quest after you defeat the first boss.
Check out the sets you will be able to obtain in the new raid:
Ny'alotha Cloth Sets Preview Ny'alotha Leather Sets Preview Ny'alotha Mail Sets Preview Ny'alotha Plate Sets Preview In the raid, we find out N'Zoth's true size and interesting loot which revolves around Corruption:
Corrupted Weapons from Ny'alotha, the Waking City We've also covered the continuation of the story in Patch 8.3 and what happens in the raid in the articles below:
New Forsaken Leadership in Patch 8.3 (Spoilers) Azshara's Bargain and the Key to Defeating N'Zoth (Spoilers) I'lgynoth's Whispers in Patch 8.3 (Analysis) Tyrande Whisperwind VO (Patch 8.3) N'Zoth's in-game model has been updated multiple times and you can check out N'Zoth's VO as well if you're interested what the Old God has to say based on the latest sound files.
        Rewards Updates
Visions of N'Zoth comes with two new factions, six new Essences, a brand new Mythic Season, a new Seasonal affix, Profession updates, and more that we'll cover soon. On top of that, Essences from Mechagon and Nazjatar will be easier to acquire for alts. You can also add your own sockets to gear which currently does not have any, and more.
Add Sockets to Your Gear in Patch 8.3 Heart of Azeroth will have a new Minor slot, two Stamina nodes, the maximum level increased to 85 (was 70). Coming in a later PTR update, Blizzard will be adding an infinite progression slot to aid you against N'Zoth's corruption at max level. Heart of Azeroth progress stops at Level 80 and Blizzard decided to get rid of the infinite trait.
        New Factions
Uldum and Vale of Eternal Blossoms will be under attack by N'Zoth's forces and both zones host new factions. You'll learn more about the Rajani in Pandaria and Uldum Accord resides in Ramkahen.
Rajani & Uldum Accord Overview New Allied Races: Vulpera & Mechagnomes
Another pair of Allied Races will become available in Visions of N'Zoth. Alliance players will be able to recruit Mechagnomes, and their Horde counterpart are the Vulpera of Vol'dun.

Goblin & Worgen Heritage Armor Sets Preview Auction House Overhaul
The Auction House will be completely revamped. No more lag caused by the system being clogged with single stacks. Stackable items are no longer purchased or sold in stacks; copper is no longer displayed in the Auction House, but used for calculations. If you regularly forget the name of goods, you can create a shopping list, and more!
Auction House Revamp Preview The Alternative of Titanforging
The Corrupted Items System is the alternative to Warforging and Titanforging in Patch 8.3. Items that would Warforge/Titanforge will drop with a +Corruption stat which grants side effects at various Corruption Levels.
Everything We Know About the Corrupted Items System So Far Cleansing Corrupted Items Class Changes

Shadowlands marks the return of Legendary items, but the acquisition will be less random than what we had back in Legion. Old Legendary items will become transmogable in Patch 9.0, and more.
In Battle for Azeroth, the only available Legendary item is Wrathion's cloak Ashjra'kamas, Shroud of Resolve introduced in Patch 8.3.
        Legendary Items in Legion
The concept of Legion Legendaries was interesting. On one hand, you were able to get them from participating in literally everything, so the obsolete portions of the expansion were still relevant.
On the other, certain Legendaries were more powerful than others. Some were even Best-in-Slot and extremely sought after, but players were not able to get them due to the RNG involved. You've had to get all the less-desired Legendaries first before getting the one you actually wanted.
        Legendaries in Shadowlands
The Shadowlands expansion is all about player agency. Legendary items will return, but you will have more control over what you get. Specific Legendaries will be crafted through the Tower of the Damned in the Maw, which is one of the game's main features with an everchanging system meant for dynamic replayability.
        Blizzard (Source)
Great rewards await those you push themselves to their limits to climb the tower. As you progress through Torghast, you’ll gather runes along the way that you can take to a runeforge, where the Runesage will help you forge legendary items. You’ll also be able to learn a bit more about origins of iconic legendary items such Frostmourne or the Helm of Domination. You’ll also have more control over how you craft your legendaries, meaning you’ll be able to determine what slot they go in, what benefits they give you, and maybe even what secondary stats they have.

        Legendary Items Available for Transmog
In Shadowlands, you will be able to transmog Legendary items, this includes Legion Legendaries as well as weapons that are no longer obtainable (Atiesh). The following items are still up for grabs, so you can start working on getting them since they require a notable time investment.
Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest Golad, Twilight of Aspects + Tiriosh, Nightmare of Ages Shadowmourne Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros Thori'dal, the Stars' Fury Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings Warglaive of Azzinoth + Warglaive of Azzinoth

Ny'alotha raid testing continues on 8.3 PTR Friday with Mythic Prophet Skitra and the Hivemind, followed by another test of Heroic N'Zoth.
        Blizzard (Source)
On Friday, November 22nd, we will be continuing our raid tests in Ny’alotha, the Waking City.
        Friday, November 22nd
Prophet Skitra - Mythic Ny’alotha, the Waking City
        13:00 PST (16:00 EST, 22:00 CET)
The Hivemind - Mythic Ny’alotha, the Waking City
        14:00 PST (17:00 EST, 23:00 CET)
N’Zoth the Corruptor - Heroic Ny’alotha, the Waking City
        15:00 PST (18:00 EST, 00:00 CET)
As always, this testing schedule is very fluid and subject to the realities of a test environment. We might have to change the time of a testing session, change the bosses being tested, or cancel a test entirely, due to bugs, server hardware issues, etc. Keep an eye on this forum for the latest information, and thank you in advance for testing and providing feedback.
Q: How do I get into the raid zone?
A: In Zuldazar, Boralus, Dalaran, Orgrimmar, or Stormwind, you may speak to Nexus-Lord Donjon Rade III in order to teleport into the raid zone while it is open for testing. (The option to teleport into a zone will not be available when the zone is not open for testing.)
Q: What character should I use to test the raid?
A: Whichever you prefer. We will be scaling players’ effective level to 120 for raid testing, and their item level to an appropriate threshold for the encounter(s) being tested.
Q: How long does testing last?
A: The primary purpose of testing is to give us the information we need to balance the encounters, evaluate how mechanics are playing out in practice, and identify bugs. Once we’re satisfied that we’ve received that information for a given boss, we’ll be shutting down testing. Usually this takes anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours, but there are no guarantees.

We have some much welcomed changes to Patch 8.3 as the infinite Heart of Azeroth trait is no more! You will still be able to upgrade the item level on your Heart after Artifact Level 80, but the Corruption Resistance part has been removed. We're also getting a new addition to the Wrathion legendary cloak, with an upgrade that will get increased Corruption Resistance over time.
You can read more on the legendary cloak here, and the update it's recently gotten here. And you can also always check out all the info on 8.3: Visions of N'zoth in our content hub as well.
        Infinite Trait, Legendary Cloak (source)
In the Visions of N’Zoth PTR, we’re removing what we called the “infinite” at Heart Level 85. It was intended to allowing for an open-ended increase to Corruption resistance.
We’ve heard a lot of feedback from players, and we agree, that there’s value in being able to reach a point where you’re essentially done with Artifact Power.
Increasing the Artifact Level of the Heart after unlocking its final Stamina node will continue to increase the Heart of Azeroth’s item level by 2 per step, but otherwise, major progression will end at Artifact Level 80. To complement this, we’re adding an item in Visions of N’Zoth that players will earn once they’ve upgraded their legendary cloak to its maximum potential via Horrific Visions or from defeating N’Zoth on Normal, Heroic, or Mythic difficulty, or from fully completing a Horrific Vision with at least one Mask active. This item will fortify the cloak, adding additional Corruption Resistance and allowing players to earn the ability to wear more Corrupted armor pieces as time goes by.
We see this as similar to the way that legendary upgrade items were awarded by Archimonde or Argus the Unmaker at the end of the last two expansions – it should provide players who prefer to not do organized raiding with a way to have an engaging option for pursuing this reward.
