Heroes of the Storm Balance Patch Notes: November 22nd

This week's slightly delayed patch comes with balance changes for multiple Heroes. Blizzard buffed Seasoned MarksmanSeasoned Marksman, Diablo's Sacrificial SoulSacrificial Soul, Sonya's WhirlwindWhirlwindLeapLeapRampageRampage, and more. Check out the official patch notes for more details!

Generic Talents

  • Seasoned MarksmanSeasoned Marksman
    • Cooldown reduced from 60 to 30 seconds.
    • Attack Speed bonus duration increased from 3 to 4 seconds.
Developer Comment: Since its removal on many Heroes, Seasoned Marksman has fallen off a bit due to needing to be tuned around so many different kits.  Now that it has a home in fewer places, we’re giving it a fairly substantial buff to make it more relevant.

      • Additional functionality: If Death Coil is used on an enemy Hero, its Mana cost is refunded.
Developer CommentDeathlordDeathlord has been a fairly awkward talent for a long time, providing Arthas with little output and utility, even when going for a Q build. We’re changing it to now give Arthas a fairly potent Poke tool by making it possible for him to infinitely drain the Health of enemy Heroes over time if they stay near him, which should only become more powerful as he gets his other Q talents as the game goes on.

We also saw an opportunity to give Critical MistCritical Mist some more reliable Healing output, so now it will Heal her teammates regardless if she removes a status effect or not.

Developer Comment: We found it a little awkward that Feral HeartFeral Heart primarily motivates Rehgar to stay in Ghost WolfGhost Wolf form, and to not attack enemies or do things that are engaging for the hero. We’re changing the Mana bonus portion of the talent to reward Rehgar for paying aggressively, and also allowing the talent to better synergize with other Z talents on his tree.

We’re also changing a few of his other talents to better compete with their peers.

Developer Comment: Junkrat has been performing very well since his rework. His W build is still not up to par compared to its competitors, but we believe it’s very close, so we’re slightly nerfing Sticky WicketSticky Wicket while also buffing BOOM POWBOOM POW since it’s his lynchpin talent to make the W build come online. We’re also nerfing the damage of RIP-TireRIP-Tire, as it is outperforming compared to Rocket RideRocket Ride, as well as influencing team fights a little much, especially when upgraded at Level 20. We like the powerful, game-breaking feeling that Extra OomphExtra Oomph provides at Level 20 (the dream is that all talents at this stage of the game can feel just as epic), so we’re going to hold off on nerfing it until we see how this change pans out.

Developer Comment: As the information can be a bit hidden, we’re re-evaluating where we have scaling on heroes that deviates from the normal 4% per level. While we have some good balance reasons for doing this, Lunara’s Nature's ToxinNature's Toxin was not one of them. Because of this, we’re changing its scaling to match other heroes, which will result in a decent buff in the early-mid game and a very slight nerf to her in the late game. Overall this should be a moderate buff for her for most of the game.

Developer Comment: We’re changing around quite a bit about Zagara, with a few goals in mind. Firstly, we believe we went a little far in reducing her power in the solo-lane, so we’re increasing her Basic Attack damage, which will help her throughout the game in a way that enemies should always be able to react to and punish her accordingly if she misplays. We’re also changing around her Level 1 talents to be more universally usable outside of PvE scenarios. For Zagara players who want to specialize in Sieging enemy bases, Infest will be the go-to talent on the tier, whereas the other talents will be more generally useful. Lastly, we’re significantly buffing her late-game power, but making her Level 16 talents fairly impactful, which should help her scale into the late game as a competent damage dealer during team fights.

Was expecting more nerfs to Junkrat, he's still pretty strong and even with nerf Rip-tire is a better pick over Rocket Ride. Zagara might see more play due to these changes, always good to have another good solo laner who isn't a bruiser, since they are dominating too much in solo laning.

Who needs tanks anyway! ? - seriously I am starting to think healers are the only ones relevant in this game now. And this is coming from a tank player. Like damn maybe I should just retire ?

I liked those overall. I think buffing underused talents is a good strategy.

I am particularly looking at Nazeebo at the moment. Yeah, spiders are great. But you can just melt people right now with Thing of the DeepThing of the Deep (+20% spell power) + Dead RushDead Rush (+100% damage) + Ring of PoisonRing of Poison. Just let me play against an Ana, Tyrande or Whitemane.

Awful change. Arcane Flare is already annoying enough to hit in the center after they did those changes to hitboxes and movement speed. The older Greater Polymorph was fantastic the way it was for chain crowd-control.

This is very good news. I always felt that Zagara had little impact in PvP scenarios. None of the level 1 talents really stand out.

There's this long, long running joke with my friends that play hots because my one friend always, and I mean always picked thing of the deep as nazeebo, without question - and we would all mock him for 20 seconds over it. This scenario occurred literally every time we all played together. For me it's hilarious to see it changed now.

Excited to try the Zagara tweaks. Sonya too.

Zagara isn't bad. Her Autoattack and Creep combo I guess is good? I usually only used Baneling lvl 1 when using Zagara but that's a little difficult now. I haven't fully done the roach % damage yet. Just used the level 1 and level 7 one which gets stacks when landing on heroes. Then added 2 creep talents and the network. And the level 4 basic attack stacking talent.

So it's a fairly simple build. The burst damage is pretty good too. Might try experimenting with the Baneling slows too since they can no longer increase in number. Might be a good combo with the % health damage roaches that move slowly. The three shot autoattack might be needed to further clear waves now though with baneling wave clear weakened. So I guess there's two builds? An auto attack/creep and a roach/baneling build?

Guess it needs more testing. As for Nazeebo. I'm going to miss the speed boost at lvl 20. Will probably just go Giant from now on. I do like the Spiders most so I'm not sure if I'll ever touch the spell power one. The range is nice, and I used to go that route when I started this game but now that I can land those Spiders.... most of the time, it's a lot to give up. The fact that they are faster to recast and use less mana just make it less likely for me. Maybe in a heavy zombie wall build? Guess we'll see.

      All Quests that can lose stacks will never cause the player to fall below milestone thresholds. Pinnacle Rewards are now named Mythic Rewards to give a more Blizzard feel. So Mythic-y! The following Summoned Units now lose health each second: Creep Tumors, Demon Lieutenants, Demon Warriors, Gargantuan, Ghouls, Hydralisks, Roaches, Rock-It Turrets, Rush Zombies, Scarabs, Treants, Ultralisk, and Water Elementals. Total Health and Duration of these Summoned Units have been adjusted to compensate for this. Structures now prioritize Summoned Units when there are no remaining minions.       Level 1 Egg Hunt Talent removed. Shell Game NEW: Murky can now place 2 eggs, but randomly revives from one of them. Increases the cooldown of placing an egg to 30 seconds and goes on cooldown if either egg dies. Level 10 March of the Murlocs Damage increased by 4%. Level 13 Egg Shell REWORK: Murky gains a Shield equal to 35% of his Health upon placing an egg or when one of his eggs dies. Fish Tank Healing reduced from 25% to 20%.       Alarak Level 10 Deadly Charge Fixed an issue that caused Alarak's Deadly Charge to not be activated by clicking the left mouse button if it occupies the Trait slot. Ana Base Aim Down Sights [D] Can now be toggled while affected by a Silencing effect. Jaina Base Frostbolt [Q] Fixed an issue causing Jaina's Frostbolt to not have its model updated by Dreadlord Jaina or Lunar Jaina. Orphea Level 4 Allegrissimo Fixed an issue that could cause Allegrissimo's cooldown reduction to not be granted when hitting a Hero at Shadow Waltz' end.
