Dungeon and Raid Updates

New Raid: Ny’alotha, the Waking City

Delve into where nightmares dwell in Ny’alotha, the Waking City, a 12-boss raid set in the Void-shrouded heart of the ancient Black Empire. Confront mad heralds and inscrutable horrors, and ultimately go eye-to-eyes with N’Zoth himself in a fateful battle for Azeroth’s survival.

Ny’alotha, the Waking City Normal and Heroic difficulties are now live, while the first wing of Raid Finder (minimum item level: 410)—Vision of Destiny—and Mythic will open next week on January 28.

Learn more about the raid and Raid Finder schedule here.

New Mythic Dungeon Affix: Awakened

Season 4 has a new affix—Awakened. While the Awakened affix is active, players will discover four obelisks throughout the dungeon, which will pull players through the veil to the shadowy world of Ny’alotha. There, players will confront a powerful lieutenant of N’Zoth and its minions which they must defeat or the lieutenant will join forces with the final boss in the instance. Once taken down, the party will be returned to their regular reality in the location they’re currently standing in. This will enable some interesting skips that don’t involve the use of Rogues’ Shroud of Concealment or invisibility.

  • Blood of the Corruptor (Defiled Spire of Ny’alotha): When facing this aberration, vile ooze will rot the earth beneath two heroes’ feet, dealing 60,000 damage a second.
  • Samh’rek, Beckoner of Chaos (Entropic Spire of Ny’alotha): Living up to its title, Samh’rek will sow destruction target three players with Cascading Terror—a powerful debuff that targets three players and fears all heroes standing beside them for a few seconds.
  • Urg’roth, Breaker of Heroes (Brutal Spire of Ny’alotha): Few can withstand the vicious fury of Urg’oth who shatters players with Spirit Breaker, increasing damage taken by a target substantially for a moderate amount of time and deals devastating damage to players who stand in Dark Fury.
  • Voidweaver Mal’thir (Cursed Spire of Ny’alotha): This powerful enemy withers champions’ minds and bodies to slow to a crawl with its Crippling Pestilence and Lingering Doubt spells, which deal a large amount of damage and reduce movement and casting speed.

Mechagon – Junkyard and Mechagon – Workshop

Operation: Mechagon enters the Mythic Keystone dungeon rotation this season as two new instances—the Junkyard and the Workshop. Each of these instances has four bosses which have been tuned for Season 4 progression.

Items and Rewards

New: Corrupted Items

With the release of Season 4, you’ll be able to earn more gear tainted with Corruption from a variety of new sources including Mythic Keystone dungeons, PvP activities, and Ny’alotha, the Waking City raid. Cursed by N’Zoth, corrupted items offer truly exceptional power—for a price. As you don more corrupted gear, you’ll find your spells will do more damage, or your heals will be more potent—but the Corruption will begin to affect you in increasingly perilous ways. At low Corruption levels, you may be slowed periodically when taking damage—while at higher corruption levels, evil forces from the Void may come for you at any moment.

Learn more about Corrupted Items here.

New Essence: The Formless Void

Now available to earn in Ny’alotha, the Waking City raid, this Essence provides new powers and a unique passive that provides some Corruption Resistance.

Mythic Keystone Dungeon Rewards

Many new powerful gear rewards are now available to earn in Season 4.

  • Item levels of rewards from level 120 Normal, Heroic, and Mythic dungeons have been increased by 30. Baseline rewards are now item-level 400 from Normal, 415 from Heroic, and 430 from non-Keystone Mythic dungeons.
  • Mythic Keystone rewards for Season 4 have been increased by 30 item levels.
  • Mythic Keystone dungeons at +7 or higher difficulty now award end-of-run items that scale up to item level 465 at Mythic +15 difficulty.
  • Item level improvements for weekly rewards now extend to Mythic +15 difficulty, which awards an item level 475 piece of gear in the weekly chest.
  • Cloaks do not drop in Season 4 weekly caches or in the Darkshore Heroic Warfront.
  • Any items not updated for Season 4 (for example, items from The Eternal Palace or Heroic-difficulty Darkshore Warfront) can continue to Warforge and Titanforge up to item level 455, but cannot be Corrupted.
  • Starting in Season 4, Mythic Keystone dungeons have a chance to drop more than 2 items at +16 difficulty or higher (was +11 difficulty).

Titan Residuum

Spend your hard-earned Titan Residuum on new item-level 460 and 475 Azerite armor pieces and tokens. Costs for previously available Azerite pieces have been reduced.

Profession Items

  • Several new profession items and recipes are now available to loot from the servants of N’Zoth.

Mythic Keystone Dungeon Updates

  • Enemy health and damage in Heroic dungeons increased by 25%.
  • Health and damage of enemies in non-Keystone Mythic dungeons increased by 45%; Normal dungeons are unchanged.
  • Mythic Keystones have been reduced by an additional 4 levels, to account for this difficulty increase.
  • The enemy health and damage bonuses in Mythic Keystone dungeons now increase by 10% per difficulty level (up from 8%).

Player versus Player

Welcome to Season 4: Corrupted

Season 4 spins a web of new player-versus-player content including the visually updated and redesigned Deepwind Gorge. Inspired by Arathi Basin, the new Deepwind Gorge has five capture points for teams to battle over. Maintaining control over the Market, Farm, Ruins, Shrine, and Quarry will be key to securing victory as the first faction to reach 1,500 points wins!

Participants can earn two new faction-themed Vicious mounts, and the highest-rated players will unlock new Notorious Gladiator mounts.

Player versus Player Reward Updates

  • Item levels of rewards earned from War Chests from all PvP tiers (Unranked, Combatant, Challenger, Rival, Duelist, and Gladiator) increased by 30.
  • Item levels of end-of-match rewards for all PvP tiers increased by 30.

New Brawl: Teeming Islands

This large-scale battle Brawl brings an additional challenge to the shores of PvP Island Expeditions by increasing the total amount of players from six to 20 on the biggest Islands (Havenswood and Jorundall).

When the Brawl is active, players can join the fight by opening up Group Finder (default hotkey: i), selecting it from the Player vs. Player tab, and queueing up.

World Bosses

While many of the greatest threats to peace in Azeroth are locked away in ancient vaults or perched atop soaring fortresses, others walk brazenly beneath the open sky in Uldum and Vale of Eternal Blossoms.

  • Grand Empress Shek’zara: Grand Empress Shek’zara uses her powerful voice and Zara’thik Swarmguard to overwhelm enemies.
  • Ulmath, the Soulbinder: A powerful Merciless One with ultimate control of two minions, Moon Priestess Liara and Guardian Tannin.
  • Vuk’laz the Earthbreaker: This living weapon of war attempts to overcome its enemies with devasting physical attacks. As the battle rages Vuk’laz summons scarabs to its aid from beneath the Writhing Sands.

New Heroic Warfront: Darkshore

Battle for Darkshore

In Season 4, you’ll be able to play the Heroic version of the Darkshore Warfront. Just like Heroic Stromgarde, you’ll need to coordinate with a premade group of 10 to 20 players to win against the relentless forces of the enemy. Victorious players can earn item level 460 gear rewards.

Interact with the War Table in Boralus or in the Port of Zuldazar with your raid group to join the fight. Note that the option to queue for Heroic Battle of Darkshore will become available when the next time a certain faction commences an assault on Darkshore in a given region. Regions that are already partway through a Battle of Darkshore attack cycle will be able to access Heroic difficulty the next time Darkshore comes under attack in Season 4.

Feel like you need to add a "when" to that second sentence.

Item level of rewards from dungeons will be increased by 30, when Ny'alotha, the Waking City opens,

Or just change it around to say "When Ny'a opens, dungeons, hc wf, etc.

Blizzard has shipped an encrypted build for Shadowlands Alpha, meaning it cannot be datamined just yet, but we're getting really close to the F&F Alpha announcement.
Earlier today, Blizzard added Shadowlands to the Battle.net App Catalog and now the first build has been shipped. Unfortunately, it is still encrypted, so it cannot be datamined at this time. You can learn more about Shadowlands in our overview in the meantime and stay tuned for Shadowlands Friends & Family Alpha!

We have some news on the much awaited Shadowlands alpha, as MMO Champion have noticed it's actually been added in the latest Battle.net catalog update! It's an encrypted build, however, so there won't be any datamining quite yet and it's most likely just some set up for when the actual Alpha starts, but it's definitely pointing in the "soon" direction!
We've already speculated on when the first alpha might be coming, with Stan concluding it's due late February or early March, which is still very much a possibility! In any case, here are the strings MMOC dug up:
    • By Starym
The race for the top spots is done, even though there are plenty more guilds progressing on N'Zoth. The biggest news since we last checked in was that both the Corruption affixes and N'Zoth himself were nerfed, and according to the top guilds, when you add both nerfs together N'Zoth got a bit easier. He received a 5% overall nerf and the Thought Harvesters did as well, while the Corruption effect (mainly Echoing Void) nerfs only accounted for around 2-3% of Limit and Method's total damage, and that number significantly drops off for lower ranked guilds, as they won't have had as good gear (with the possible exception of some Asian guilds).
What that all ended up meaning is that only our Bronze medalist, Pieces, actually downed the Old God before the nerf, with 4 through 10 all getting the slightly easier version. It's a big accomplishment in any case and was hard fought, so let's take a look at the final standings:

There we have it, one US guild at the very top, 5 EU guilds and Asia staking their claim once more with 40% of the top 10. We did have an upset on the charts however, as Alpha, who have been the top Asian guild for quite a while now and also lead the way throughout Ny'alotha, were beaten in the end by JTH aka JiTianHong! And the other big news is that the amazingly named FatSharkYes took the 4th spot back for the EU, while raiding quite a bit less than their competition. We've also had some more guilds get to 12/12 after the top 10 finished up, with Chinese newcomer Hei Jia Ji just missed out on the top ranking slots, followed by aptly named Korean guild KR, Practice from the EU and finally US second, Big Dumb Guild just getting it done today.
Let's also take a quick look at the viewership for the race, as it's been affected by the change in leaders, and it's also gotten a pretty big bump since the Eternal Palace. We'll check out the week of the final boss kill specifically, as that's the peak in viewership, and N'Zoth actually saw a big increase from Azshara, but with a different layout. Let's start with the kill-week viewership for Eternal Palace, courtesy of The Esports Observer:

      And now Ny'alotha:

As you can see Method's event stream kept pretty much the same presence, but the big addition was Complexity Limit GM Max's stream which came through to increase the number of watched hours by almost 50%! Complexity's own event stream wasn't that watched, as the point of focus in the race was Max's stream as Limit was leading the way from pretty much the very beginning of the race, and his stream offered the entire unedited guild communications.
Finally in this conclusion of race-related events we have a big shakeup for the two top guilds, as Naowh, Limit's main tank for this raid has announced that he's going to be joining Method! In case you weren't aware, Naowh is an EU player and was originally a part of Method's EU MDI team, but joined Limit for Ny'alotha progress.
The actually bigger news here came with Method GM Sco's post regarding this matter, stating that either he or Justwait will likely be passing their tank spot to Naowh in Shadowlands and will "support the guild from outside the raid during the next RWF". Whether this is referring to the role Limit GM Max took this time around or something different remains to be seen. Here's Sco and Naowh's full quotes:

And so another race has come to a close and it was a very eventful one, seeing a seismic shift in the raiding world as the US is back on top after an 8 year absence. Limit have been working on this for a long time and it seems the partnership with Complexity was that final push they needed to get there. Battle for Azeroth still ended up being Method dominated, however, with the guild taking 3 out of the 5 raids, with Pieces taking the short Crucible of Storms and now Limit making things interesting with the Ny'alotha win. This marks Shadowlands as a particularly interesting race, with both guilds now having esports organizations behind them and Method being behind for once, so it'll be a thrill to find out if they can recover from this one.
You can check out all our Ny'alotha progress summaries here, if you want a refresher on the race and all that happened.

      ILLIDAN AWAITS
Head to Outland to face Illidan and his cohorts once more in The Black Temple!
The Black Temple raid is available throughout the Burning Crusade Timewalking event. The difficulty is set to Normal and, like any Normal level raid, will not be available through Raid Finder. To take on this challenge, you’ll need to get your guild or a group of friends together, or head to Group Finder > Premade Groups. The raid scales for your group size (between 10 — 30 players) and your level and gear will be scaled back to match the raid’s challenges.
Want to relive the time you first defeated Teron Gorefiend? Face (face, face) the Reliquary of Souls once more? Witness the showdown between Maiev and Illidan before the final fight? Now’s your chance. Inside you can earn transmog sets, the pets you need for Raiding With Leashes III, a Music Roll: The Burning Legion, and gear drops. And for Demon Hunters, there’s the enticing possibility of obtaining the legendary Warglaives of Azzinoth. Are you, this time, prepared?

The Arcatraz The Black Morass Magister’s Terrace Mana-Tombs Shattered Halls The Slave Pens Your character and items will be scaled down to a power level fitting for the challenge at hand, but bosses will yield loot appropriate for your natural level. Timewalking dungeons also have a chance to drop items that usually drop when you run them on Heroic, and you’ll earn reputation with a faction that is interested in the dungeon. For example, when you Timewalk through The Slave Pens, you’ll earn reputation with the Cenarion Expedition, which could open access to purchasing the Cenarion War Hippogryph mount.
Look for the following all week long:
Chronicler Shoopa in Zuldazar or Chronicler Toopa in Boralus has a quest for you has a quest for you. Or, if you forget to pick it up there, you can start it from within the Adventure Journal.
