Raiding as Melee Help

I've only been level 90 for a few weeks now and I've recently picked up fury warrior from prot. I'm not overly concerned about my DPS numbers as much as my fight awareness and time actively doing what needs to be done. Are there any general tips you can give me for melee DPS, I've looked at the guide provided, but it only covers things like hit/expertise rating not things like movement and when/if to swap to adds.

Get the GTFO add-on. It will provide a loud annoying sound when you are standing in shit and invariably there is nonsense at melee range in most fights. Other than that, look at the individual threads in the forums for your class (like Siege of Orgrimmar Fury Warrior style) that will have fight specific tips. You will pick up things like switching to adds etc as you start doing these fights more and more. Strategies could also depend on the group you are doing with and in most cases should come from the raid lead. (For LFR, the general tips suggested in these forums should be good enough)

All I can say is: Practice, practice, practice.

There is no substitute for knowing the fights (and not just knowing the fights, but knowing them inside and out). You'll be able to anticipate boss attacks, know where to stand (and when), when to use CDs, the works. Get yourself DBM if you don't have it already. You'll reach a point (I know I did) when you don't even need it anymore because the fights are that routine, but it helps the first few times through and if you ever get caught daydreaming.

Finally, when I say practice, I DON'T mean LFR. You will get absolutely NO experience as a raider while in LFR, outside of what attacks are called. I'll never forget the first time I expected Tortos' stone breath to do the same amount of damage in 10m as LFR, and when he wasted the raid I stood there dumbfounded. Get yourself a decent group (its perfectly okay to learn alongside someone), and raid Flex. Flex flex flex flex. There is no lockout, so do it over and over and before you know it you'll be calling out attacks before DBM does.

I agree. The only way to learn raid awareness is to raid, and be conscious about your movements. If you die, retrace your steps. Of course, this applise to every role and class in the game - ranged dps and healers need to be very careful with positioning. You need to get comfortable with playing your class, and with the bosses you are fighting.

A tip I would give you to practise; try soloing the big adds on Timeless isles with the different ground attacks. You'll learn how to dodge effectively. Garrosh actually does an attack similar to the large Yaungol.

Definitely download GTFO. Turn off dps numbers ( floating combat text) and anything that clutters your screen. So you will see what you need to see only.

Don't stand in front of the boss, next to tank unless it is the only way to do dps. Only cleave if it is really necessary, specifically ask for. It is hard to resist to temptation of big numbers on recount but some fights like Klaxxi there isn't much point as they heal up when one of them dies.

Learn the fights and definitely use a boss - mode. If you need to run out of an ability, don't pop a cd just before that so you can max it.

These are few i could say.

      Hello there!

<Shadow> on Argent Dawn has been going since 2009. We are a close-knit community and strongly believe in recruiting people who will fit in with us rather than just whoever is topping the meters. We also believe that having a busy RL life with job/family/social commitments and committing to Mythic raiding as a hobby we're all passionate about are not mutually exclusive. We are looking to bolster our line-up to push for Cutting Edge in Antorus.

      About us

We progress raid Thursdays and Sundays, 20:00-23:00 and 19:30-22:30 respectively (all times server time)
We have a non-mandatory farm raid Fridays at 20:30 that socials and alts are welcome to
We use Discord for voice communication and have an active server to hang out, chat, and organise M+ runs
We maintain a mature environment - having a laugh is great, but bullying, endless meme-spamming and the like are not welcome
We believe in learning from your mistakes - you will never be yelled at, but you will be asked whether you know what you did wrong and how you can fix it

      What we expect from recruits

Sign up to raids ahead of time and give us a heads-up in case of longer absences
Be there 15 minutes before raid start and bring your own consumables as back-up to feasts and cauldrons
Do your homework - research encounters thoroughly and understand them
Understand and know how to play your class
Have Discord installed and a working microphone, ready to speak when required but without cluttering up comms with chatter
You don't need to grind to the point of burn-out, but keep up with AP traits and do M+ to hone your skills and supplement your gear
Be a team player and bring a positive attitude. Wipes happen in Mythic. Constructive feedback is great, backseat raid leading is not.

What we are currently looking for

A rule that applies to all potential recruits is: We do not recruit for the bench, but we will always take the team that is most likely to defeat the boss and cannot promise everyone they will always be in for every fight. When things are equal in terms of performance and required composition, we much prefer to rotate people in and out over benching someone for an entire night.
One Healer - Paladin preferred, but any class that isn't priest will be considered
One Tank - Bear, Brewmaster or Blood DK
Melee DPS - got one spot for a Rogue
Ranged DPS - Boomkins, Shadow Priests, Warlocks and Hunters

If this sounds like the guild for you, check us out at shadow-wow.enjin.com or contact the Co-GMs Alec#2922 and NevNev#2669 for more info!

      See you in Antorus!

      I need guidance!
I'm a returning player from the MoP era, I've played throughout TBC and beyond and currently I'm a iLvl 890 Mage. I haven't played any of Legion launch content, no 7.1/7.2 content when I first started playing again. Currently I've been doing all of the broken isles quests, currently on the last which is Suramar and my entire Broken Isles Rep standing is at Honoured across the board at this moment in time (btw this rep wall for flying is a joke).
      So here I am questing, doing dungeons and LFR. Multi-tasking multiple things, I've just received the last follower for the class hall quests, it's so overwhelming and I have no idea what I need to do to make sure I'm not missing out any tasty loot because I'm an avid completionist and wouldn't want to miss a mount or title or anything haha! But like I said, I'm so very overwhelmed by everything and I don't want to be doing things that I don't really need to do unless I get something shiny. Am I gonna be screwed if I skip the Broken Shore? Do i just go straight into argus? I love leveling alt characters but if i do all this, and have to do it again on an alt, I would be so angry. Obviously the Legion flying will benefit the alt, but if I can just skip to Argus(?), is it really worth it? Like jump straight into argus if its not gonna damage my alt toons chances of getting gear? WHAT SHOULD I BE DOING AND WHAT AM I WASTING MY TIME ON? - is the question I'm asking here. I hate missing a trick, please halp ! D;

Gordian Knot is a 20-man semi-hardcore raiding guild that consists of experienced raiders with some of them having raiding experience as far back as Vanilla.
We are a friendly group who enjoys World of Warcraft and loves raiding. We have fun and joke around but when bosses need to go down then all is serious! We wish for all our members to enjoy the game as much as we do and we expect raiders to maintain a 70% attendance per month.
We also enjoy a variety of other activities such as running a lot of Mythic+ dungeons doing alt-runs, achievement runs etc.
There are a few things we hold in high value but above else we value friendliness and politeness towards guildies and other players and skillfulness when it comes to the more serious parts of the game.
      Currently :
We raid 3 nights a week, Wednesdays, Sundays and Mondays, from 20:00 till 23:00 server time.
Although we are a 20-man guild, we usually run an extra group in order to get more people to experience the joys of raiding, help new raiders learn the Knot's way to down bosses and gearing up. Usually, these runs happen on Thursdays. Also, every Friday and sometimes Saturdays too, we're on RBGs killing alliance scums!
Saturdays are generally left for those RBGs or older content runs for fun and drinking!
Our current guild progress is 5/9 on Tomb of Sargeras mythic, and we're focusing on getting further Mythic progress. Our aim is to always progress as much as possible but also to have a relaxed and fun atmosphere at the same time!
