Will Calia Menethil Lead the Forsaken in Shadowlands?

Recommended Posts

nwK9rmI.jpg

In the new Shadowlands Intro Experience we see Calia beside other Horde leaders.

July 9 Update: Initially we thought Calia would lead the Forsaken, as this was foreshadowed long ago during the 8.3 epilogue, where we learned that she will return to Lordaeron with Derek Proudmoore.

To further support this claim, we also saw her on the Alpha in the intro among other Horde leaders and in the Shadows Rising novel, we saw Voss as the interim Leader of the Forsaken who was tutoring Calia. We had devs confirming that Calia's appearance in the intro was more for personal reasons and that she is not intended to be the leader of the forsaken.

Original Post

When you start the Shadowlands Intro Experience on Alpha, you enter the Frozen Throne and meet up with notable faction leaders and Bolvar.

On the Alliance side, there is Genn Greymane, Tyrande Whisperwind, Muradin Bronzebeard, Alleria Windrunner, and Gelbin Mekkatorque.

On the Horde side, we have Rokhan, Lor'themar Theron, First Arcanist Thalyssra, Valeera Sanguinar, and Calia Menethil, which pretty much confirms that she will lead the Forsaken in Shadowlands.

Tyrande still seeks retribution and says she would pay any price to see the Banshee impaled upon her glaive.

Calia responds that the kaldorei need her if they are to have any hopes of finding peace.

Tyrande, in full aggro mode, tells Calia how she dares speak of peace after all the atrocities her kind inflicted.

Bolvar steps in and tells everyone that the war is over, and we can ill afford to start another one. At far more pressing threat is at hand and we must prepare to face it.

During the Intro Experience, we found out that Jaina is worried about Tyrande, claiming she barely can contain the powers bestowed upon her from the Night Warrior transformation.

why is valeera on the horde side? what did I miss?

so i played warcraft from warcraft 2 launch as a kid... horde was always orcs/trolls/goblins/ogres/etc... alliance was always humans/dwarves/elves/etc

is there a specific or valid reason why the horde seems to be mainly lead by elves now????

Orcs and Trolls just didn't cut it anymore.. they either retired, went insane or just died right after becoming leader.

Bah, this whole Calia thing is just such a bad forced plotline on top of an already awful BFA undead/night elf rewrite.

Night Elfs are brutally slain by Sylvannas in a surprise offensive.   For whatever reason, they accept resurrection as forsaken and follow Sylvannas, becuase they are so angry at...Tyrande and Elune for not saving them from Sylvannas.

SIGH.

Then you have Calia MENETHIL, sister to someone the Forsaken hate down to their bones.    Pulled out the *filtered* of who knows where recently, she gets resurrected into a "Holy Undead" (UGH), and somehow is made into the Forsaken leader despite her super close ties with Anduin, the Proudmoores, and being a completely different breed of undead.    Not to mention having zero ties with any forsaken whose lore is just getting butchered to hell.

Someone at Blizzard really needs to be replaced at this point, the story and characterizations are just making no sense.    Don't even get me started on genderswapped thrall, Yrel becoming a Light Nazi, and paladin Garrosh in "alternate future reality Draenor".    All so we could get Mag'har...and all of which was unnecessary because the stupid writers forgot that we had Mag'har all along in TBC's outland.

Her main tie is being from Lordaeron and it's de facto heiress (whether that second thing means anything now, it's dubious at least). Problem with Forsaken is that Sylvanas is their only developed character, Nathanos is her follower, and there aren't any other actual characters associated with them. Even Lilian Voss was kinda forced into them, since she wasn't a member until like BfA. On top of that, Calia's backstory is in the book, they didn't bother to introduce some quests with a flashback.

Doesn't really make a whole lot of sense, but by now we're used to that.

All in all I don't mind her though. She at the very least isn't completely crazy, which by horde standards is a pretty good start, I guess. XD

That's actually the problem, in order to keep the forced conflict going (however little sense it makes at this point), you need SOMEONE among the leadership to be hostile.     That's why Tyrande got her random "Rage Mode" powerup, taking the place of Jaina as the hateful warmonger of the Alliance.    Now who's the warmonger among the horde?     I'm guessing we're going to have a betrayal/assassination/other soon.

Don't ask me, I cannot take this fake conflict seriously anymore for a long time now. There is no way two factions who defied the Scourge and the Burning Legion together, fighting back to back, would still be enemies.

So no matter what they come up with this time to start the war again, it will be ridiculous anyway.

But if I had to take a guess, yeah, you can always go full Franz Ferdinand. Never gets old... XD

The new War Within Allied Races was added to the Alpha today and we already have a full look at not only all their customization options, but their dances as well, courtesy of MrGM! You can check out the Earthen's racial abilities here if you missed them earlier.
Let's start with the more dynamic feature, with both male and female dances:
And then there's big amount of customization options, as well as a size comparison with regular dwarves:

So, are we liking the new Allied Race overall? More than actual dwarves?

Here's a really cool possibility for the War Within, as a very subtle and mildly mysterious comment from Executive Producer and Vice President for WoW, Holly Longdale, may be hinting at our Warband characters getting a lot more involved in our travels!
First spotted by UlthansWrath, Longdale came up to Taliesin & Evitel at the recent London War Within Alpha press event and had a short chat about the Warband screen, when she casually said "wouldn't it be cool if those were the characters you took as your followers in your Follower Dungeons?" After the obvious confirmation from Taliesin and Evitel that, yes, yes it would be cool, she just said "hm" and that was the end of the conversation.
Obviously this isn't any sort of official confirmation, but considering this is a really awesome idea, it seems likely Blizzard are at the very least discussing it, if not already working on it.

The Warband system is already great, and this would add a lot to it for players that choose to go solo into dungeons, as it would give them even more motivation to get some great characters in their Warband - even if it was just a cosmetic option.
So, what do you think, will we be seeing this feature when the War Within launches?
