Realm Transfers and the Ahn'Qiraj Event

With the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj event coming up in Phase 5 later this month, there's a lot more focus on realm transfers, as entire groups/guilds might be going for that Scarab Lord title and mount on a low pop server. Today we have some clarifications from Blizzard on how realm transfers are going to work, specifically for those chasing the Scarab Lord title, noting that you cannot get the rewards from finishing the quest line for 90 days after transferring.

With the upcoming Ahn’Qiraj event in WoW Classic, we’ve seen players discussing transferring to a different server to become the Scarab Lord. We’d like to clarify that there is a 90-day period following a character transfer, during which a player is prevented from opening the gates and obtaining the mount.

If you transfer to another realm, you will still be able to complete the quest within 90 days of the transfer, however, you will not receive the rewards associated with being the first to turn it in. We want to allow players to transfer, but that should be so they can play with their friends, not disrupt another realm’s Scepter race.

We hope this clears up the concern.

We're looking at a player who soloed Hogger in WoW Classic at Level 1 without dying. It took them 19 minutes and 22 seconds to do so!
Here is the VoD with Hogger at ~5% health left, so you can watch how the infamous Level 11 Elite gnoll got down!

We've seen some of the weirdness that came along with the process of opening the Ahn'Qiraj gates, including a whole faction blocking one person from getting Scarab Lord for 10 straight hours (and succeeding), but there's always more! The main focus of the activities is obviously PvP, but we also have some chronicles of the actual Scarab Lord questline in there as well, and we thought it might be nice to not only check out the recent Classic opening, but also find some truly old-school Vanilla videos as well!
We start off with two videos from Gehennas EU (apparently the most PvP-heavy server in the region), as both Dreamstate and APES have made compilations of their lengthy experiences in various PvP scenarios, ranging from the gathering at the Un'goro entrance, bug farming, the re-taking of Duskwood as the Horde blockaded it, a particularly cute cameo, and just a whole lot of massive world PvP.

      Meanwhile, over on Herod:

And now it's on to some old-school stuff, starting off with a perhaps less impressive video, but a historically important one, as it was the very first ever opening of the gates, on the Medivh US server!
      A more edited one:
It really seems the vanilla videos were much more focused on the opening of the gates itself, as it was very hard to find really any PvP-focused videos, so let's take a look at probably the most famous AQ40 video instead, which inspired many to make machinimas, Jack's Ahn'Qiraj the Movie:

We have a useful little discovery for enhancement Shamans in Classic, as you can combine the effect of Rockbiter Weapon with either Windfury Weapon , Flametongue Weapon or Frostbrand Weapon, so they're active at the same time! Spell batching makes this possible and it's not a universally useful technique, as it will spend a whole lot of mana, but there are plenty of situations where it might come in handy, from Vael, PvP or just the final burn phase of any boss fight if you have the mana to spare. Obviously Windfury is the best bet, as you can get all 3 of its swings with the extra 653 attack power from Rockbiter, packing quite a bigger punch.

Here's the quick video and text explanation, and thanks to GideonAI for the heads up!

Gorak's back with another of his Classic "guides", as the brave Orc has managed to clear the starting zone and found life outside it can be... different! In a pretty accurate description of what it's like to leave the Valley of Trials and assume the rest of the game will follow suit, and is honestly one of the things I miss most about retail. The machinima itself also reminds me of the old-school Vanilla videos in its simplicitiy and really captures that vibe well.

The series has been going for 2 years now and is a pretty good watch so definitely check out some more of the 16 episodes made so far!
And here's a couple words from the author:

Today's hotfixes address a commonly mentioned discrepancy between Vanilla and Classic, as some AQ20 were turned un-tradeable in Classic. Blizzard have now fixed this for the Qiraji Hilt, Drape and Ring quest items, by making them non-stackable.

      WoW Classic
The Qiraji Hilt, Qiraji Drape, and Qiraji Ring quest items are now tradeable and will no longer stack. Developers’ note: In order to enable the ability to trade to eligible looters within 2 hours of looting the Qiraji hilts, drapes, and rings, we've removed the ability to stack multiples of them. Additionally, only one of these items are needed for the non-repeatable quest so there’s no reason for them to stack.
