Ectoplasmic Distiller Hotfix: July 31st

Ectoplasmic Distiller Ectoplasmic Distiller has been hotfixed to generate no threat.

Dropping the quest item applies a buff to everyone in range of the item, and buffs generate threat by default, which can be used to trivialize threat mechanics in many encounters. As a result, Blizzard made Ectoplasmic Distiller Ectoplasmic Distiller generate no threat, even though that's not how the item worked back in Vanilla.

Many might not be aware but the ectoplasmic distiller from the t0.5 bracer quest line is a pretty crazy item for tanks. I puts a buff around all players when used. This application of a buff generates agro. So if this is used in a raid it can generate quite a lot of threat per second or TPS.
Wondering if any blue is going to comment on if blizzard is aware of this or not. If it stays how it is tanking bosses in classic is going to change quite a bit. As a tank I honestly would like to see it nerfed as it will make things even easier but if it stays how it is I will just adjust. Would be nice to know if anything is going to change with it before sink out the money for it though lol…

A hotfix was applied late last night that made it so the Ectoplasmic Distiller quest item would no longer generate threat. We made this change because in patch 1.12, dropping this item applied a buff to everybody in range of the item, and since buffs generate threat by default, it could be used to trivialize the threat mechanics in many encounters. We don’t believe this was an intended effect and this was a case where the impact was extreme enough to warrant the change.

Another notable reason for the change is that this item is not a quest reward, but item used as part of the mechanics to complete a quest, which is then removed when the quest is complete. We want quest completion to be a rewarding experience, and not feel like a mistake.

Glad I did not write about this item and its threat trivialization mechanic on the tanking Warrior guide 😄

Was expecting this to happen, good change and the key quote here is  this item is not a quest reward, but item used as part of the mechanics to complete a quest, which is then removed when the quest is complete. We want quest completion to be a rewarding experience, and not feel like a mistake.

Even with a guide on it, there would be plenty of people doing the quest without knowing about it and feeling like their character was destroyed later..

We have a useful little discovery for enhancement Shamans in Classic, as you can combine the effect of Rockbiter Weapon with either Windfury Weapon , Flametongue Weapon or Frostbrand Weapon, so they're active at the same time! Spell batching makes this possible and it's not a universally useful technique, as it will spend a whole lot of mana, but there are plenty of situations where it might come in handy, from Vael, PvP or just the final burn phase of any boss fight if you have the mana to spare. Obviously Windfury is the best bet, as you can get all 3 of its swings with the extra 653 attack power from Rockbiter, packing quite a bigger punch.

Here's the quick video and text explanation, and thanks to GideonAI for the heads up!

Gorak's back with another of his Classic "guides", as the brave Orc has managed to clear the starting zone and found life outside it can be... different! In a pretty accurate description of what it's like to leave the Valley of Trials and assume the rest of the game will follow suit, and is honestly one of the things I miss most about retail. The machinima itself also reminds me of the old-school Vanilla videos in its simplicitiy and really captures that vibe well.

The series has been going for 2 years now and is a pretty good watch so definitely check out some more of the 16 episodes made so far!
And here's a couple words from the author:

Today's hotfixes address a commonly mentioned discrepancy between Vanilla and Classic, as some AQ20 were turned un-tradeable in Classic. Blizzard have now fixed this for the Qiraji Hilt, Drape and Ring quest items, by making them non-stackable.

      WoW Classic
The Qiraji Hilt, Qiraji Drape, and Qiraji Ring quest items are now tradeable and will no longer stack. Developers’ note: In order to enable the ability to trade to eligible looters within 2 hours of looting the Qiraji hilts, drapes, and rings, we've removed the ability to stack multiples of them. Additionally, only one of these items are needed for the non-repeatable quest so there’s no reason for them to stack.

The EU gates opened around 8 PM CEST today and the guilds rushed in to clear AQ40. It took most of them around 50 minutes to get to and kill C'Thun, and then they continued to clear the rest. Progress took home the EU 1st crown for Classic (and also took an hour and 27 minutes total for the full clear), followed by gusy and Calamity, with 8 other guilds having downed C'Thun as well so far.
Progress: approximately 49 minutes to C'Thun and 1 hour 27 minutes for the full clear:

      Gusy: approx 48 minutes:

      Calamity: approx 46 minutes:
