How the Free Mounts Could Look Like in Shadowlands

Recommended Posts

Blizzard started a poll yesterday, and they will create a free mount based on the winner. It's almost certain the new mount will be based on existing creature models, so to give you an idea, we've looked at how the next mount could potentially look like.

Note that this post is based on speculation and the winner mount may have a different model, features, color, and size.

Wandering Ancient

Not all ancients are interested in war or lore, some just want to travel the world! A large and leafy mount, the Wandering Ancient invites you to climb aboard and grab ahold of its branches as you embark on a lumbering expedition.

The mount may share models with the updated Ancient of War model.

Soaring Spelltome

In the forgotten depths of the Dalaran library, this oversized tome was found flapping madly around the room. Open the pages of this arcane-infused book and hitch a ride to magical adventure.

The mount could share models with the Animated TomeAnimated Tome pet.

Nerubian Swarmer

When the Helm of Domination shattered, the Nerubians under the control of the Lich King were unleashed. Some were captured by the Argent Crusade and turned by their allies in the Ebon Blade. Now their spidery claws are put to use as mounts, skittering through the frozen tundra of Icecrown in pursuit of the rampaging undead.

We found a battle pet with the identical name that you learn from Nerubian RelicNerubian Relic. The pet drops from Anub'arak in the Trial of the Crusader.

Curious Caterpillar

A curious caterpillar found its way to the Heartland in Valley of the Four Winds one night and gorged itself on the oversized vegetables. The Pandaren of Halfhill awoke the next morning to find the crops half-eaten and an enormous, slumbering caterpillar among them. Too large to become a butterfly, this friendly worm is just the right size to train as a mount.

Even though the current models don't have a high quality, we think the mount will be similar to Imperial SilkwormImperial Silkworm, as the battle pet and the other corresponding tints represent creatures from the Valley of the Four Winds as hinted in the description.

The caterpillar model would need to be updated to fit today's standards.

Gooey Slimesaber

From the slime pools of Plaguefall emerged all manner of jellied creature, including this sticky kitty. A slimy saber cat that's dripping with ooze, it's the kind of mount that you're going to want to wear gloves for.

We think the mount will share models with the Jelly CatJelly Cat pet.

Wow, this is why they are free, they are fugly as hell, to me anyway.

Yeah, those are unimpressive, but they are mostly pets and should just give you general idea of the concept. I think this will be the Blizzcon 2020 substitude event and Blizzard may want to give the community something special and unique, like the Sky Golem. We will see.

Same! No idea why people are considering anything other than the walking tree.

You'll have to be a bit more careful with your Torghast runs (at least as much as you can when it comes to disconnects etc. (take not of your router reset times!). Blizzard GMs have confirmed that Soul Ash, the currency necessary for legendaries, will NOT be sent to you in the mail if you don't loot it.
Players have been having various issues which prevented them from looting Soul Ash, and after ticketing the issue, GMs had this to say:
It may be the case that GMs are simply swamped right now and can't take deeper looks into the specific runs (as it shouldn't be too complicated to see what a player has cleared and how much Soul Ash they actually looted), so maybe this will change in the future in terms of GMs helping out with tickets, but what's for sure is that Soul Ash will not be normally mailed to you if you don't loot it!

Oribos is about to get a lot more crowded!

We’re working on a hotfix that will end the separation between War Mode and non-War Mode players in Oribos.
After realm restarts, whenever they next occur, you should no longer need to change your War Mode status to see other players who are in the opposite mode in Oribos.

Well, it seems the Covenants are very set in their ways and even after a fix was found for players that switched early and ran into issues, it just did not go through on live servers. Game Director Ion Hazzikostas has replied on the matter on twitter, and it seems they're trying to figure out why the fix isn't quite working out on live:
There are many more comments on the issues in the twitter thread so check that out as well, but let's hope those eager switchers won't be locked out of much more of their week and a fix for the fix will be found soon!

Blizzard is collecting feedback about the endgame zone through an NPC in Shadowlands.
You will meet Ve'rayn in Oribos during the Ve'nari intro questline. The mob asks you a question about the Maw, specifically, if you find it challenging to survive amidst the oppressive and unceasing horrors within the Maw, probably referring to the Eye of the Jailer mechanic.

The Shadowlands are truly beautiful and the skyboxes are a big part of that. Luckily for us, we can take one of them with us wherever we go! Well, for 10 minutes anyway. During one of the treasure hunts in Ardenweald, you can get the  Moonsight buff that changes the skybox of any zone you're in, including old-world ones! You'll also snag yourself the weird/interesting Wildseed Cradle mount along the way.

The mount itself is one of the easiest ones to obtain, as you just need to collect a few tools, and you can see their locations here (or just get the HandyNotes: Shadowlands addon).
