Here come this week's Death Knight class changes, focusing on Unholy and Blood specs, with some spells moved to baseline, talents moved around and more!

Blizzard LogoClass Changes (source)

We’ve continued to work from feedback that the Unholy opener can take too long to get going. Even with attempts to help alleviate this issue over the last few weeks, it’s still not where we would like it to be.

Unholy has quite a few iconic abilities and they aren’t easily removed. Thus, our goal with this week’s latest build is to reduce the number of cooldowns in the opener, help out Rune economy, and give access to a baseline AoE Runic Spender.

Unholy

  • Summon Gargoyle Summon Gargoyle is moved back as a level 50 talent.
  • Unholy Pact Unholy Pact moved to the level 45 talent tier.
  • Epidemic Epidemic is baseline.
  • Dark Transformation Dark Transformation has been removed, and its functionality has been added to Apocalypse Apocalypse.
    • Developers’ notes: Legendaries and Conduits that interact with your ghoul while they have Dark Transformation still function as they did prior to this change.
  • Death Coil has updated to reduce the cooldown of Apocalypse by 1.5 seconds.
    • Developers’ notes: When you cast Apocalypse, your Dark Transformation is no longer delayed by a missile travel time.

Blood

We have a small update for Blood to address the feedback about the Ossuary talent feeling mandatory.

Thanks for the continued feedback! Please keep it coming once you’ve had a chance to test the new build.

Man, I love this. I have always disliked Dark Transformation. Feels like just a button to smash every 45 seconds in PvE. Legion improved it a little, not a lot. Throwing it into Apocalypse and making apocalypse improvements baseline streamlines a couple of things at once.

Feels like Apocalypse might be a more obvious burst moment though.

Gargoyle feels better as a talent too, personally. It still dictates how you play around it, even if not as much as it used to, and like they say it's another button to press. And Unholy is about pressing lots of buttons and seeing the damage spill, yes, but still. Nicer as talent, I think.

And Ossuary as baseline is long overdue.

I like what I am reading here, these are very good changes for blood spec IMO!

Unholy. Maybe unprune Gargoyle and Dark Transformation please.

I do like the changes broadly to both, epidemic and ossuary being baseline feels like a clear winning call. Unholy pact did not feel like a meaningful enough choice for that level 50 row, and as another aoe choice on the 45 role it fits more cleanly. Taking gargoyle out is... ok? Like I was excited to have it back baseline in theory, but ngl, 3 minute cds are some of my least favorite to try and play around with in the game. While I like how gargoyle changes your play, I think this is, at first glance, reasonable. The unholy transformation change is odd though. While it's true that apoc and UT often times line up at the moment and are part of the same general CD cycle, the ability to spread them out during dungeons in particular can feel important. Now with festermight going away that may be less admittedly less impactful. Bobthehuman also raised a good point with how army of the damned interacts with the base lining of some CD reduction being added to apoc. If its an additional 2.5 seconds that could be pretty crazy; conversely if it now only improves it by 1 second over baseline it may necessitate maybe some tweaks to skeletal mage damage to compensate. So 2 pretty strong changes for Unholy and 2 changes that probably need to be played with to see how they feel.

I don't like the unholy changes. To make unholy competitive they need to buff dark transformation by 100% as it now has double the cooldown. Plus they removed decision making for dungeons. Before you could decide to use dt to do good aoe damage and apo to do decent boss damage or throw both at the mob pack/boss.
Baseline Epidemic is a good decision, as it was kinda baseline anyway.
Blizz, why do you take Gargoyle away again? I thought adding it back in was to bring some much needed flavour to the specc.... Make it hit like a wet noodle and bring back the Arbiter Talent to make it good......

Another idea, replace Ebon Fever or Unholy Frenzy with Necrotic Plague, as neither add anything to the specc anyway except another burst button for UF.

Blood received good changes. I like them.

Goddamn I hate the uh changes. If it goes live like this, I will need a new main ? (Tank is fun and all but....)
Anyone have some ideas?

Tanks are getting a lot of focus in Shadowlands with the increased Mythic+ focus, and it's only going to get more intense with the next pach, so we rounded up some funny stories, depressing interactions, memes and similar. Here's a grab-bag of tanking experiences from many players.
While all tanks are always needed, things change around the +15 mark, as it's not just DPS that have this particular experience, and if you're one of the least popular/worst specs...
Then there's this type of terrible, which hasn't really changed that much since, well, forever, as there will always be assholes out there, but there really do seem to be more and more of them these days, especially in Mythic+...

      Source: ChoGallMeta.
And even if you do well, it's never enough for some people:
But, sometimes it's quite a different feeling, as however terrible players might be to you, you're still a tank damn it!
And there are some perfect moments that can only come from tanking, including this one titled "My greatest M+ tanking Achievement...":

      Source: Sheth1984.
If the group gets really annoying, you can always have the last word too:

      Source: Boars89.
And finally, if you get REALLY tired of all the DPS not interrupting, the healer selfishly trying to keep those idiots that stand in every mechanic under the sun alive instead of keeping you above 80%, or people dare to question your route, you can always just go with your own kind!

As 9.0.5 approaches, we wanted to take a look at just how many players were playing which specs in Mythic Castle Nathria before the patch changes hit. We made some charts for the Warcraft Logs numbers and will be doing them by role, starting with DPS. All of the stats below are based on the past 2 weeks of raids.
While we know what the biggest DPS performers are from our weekly check-ins with the Nathria logs, the actual number of players in the raid by spec are close, but look a little different. The most interesting/jarring fact of all on the DPS side is that 4 specs take up more than half of the entire Mythic population:

Those last few stripes that are so tiny are Frost DK, Assassination, Demonology, Arcane and, of course Survival at the very end. Source: Warcraft Logs.
The fact that Marksmanship, Fire, Balance and Affliction take up 51% of all DPS specs in Mythic Nathria is a little mind-boggling, especially since performance-wise, those specs don't really stand out that much (aside from Balance, who has reigned supreme for a long time now). Shadow is a particularly interesting case, as it's been at or near the top of the DPS rankings for a long time (it's currently in 3rd spot), and yet its numbers here are pretty low.
Now let's take a look at the tanks and healers, as their numbers are even more distorted, with some extremely dominant specs. For tanks, Vengenance's domination won't surprise anyone, as it's been the go-to spec for basically all of Shadowlands:

      Source: Warcraft Logs.
In comparison to the DPS role values, 2 tank specs hold 62% of the population, and 3 come up to 74%.
We see an extremely similar situation for healers, with 2 specs holding 55%, with the bottom two barely breaking 15%.

      Source: Warcraft Logs.
The biggest takeaway here is in the DPS department, where the numbers don't necessarily conform to the DPS rankings, although the specs that have been generally in the top for a longer time are more represented, as you'd imagine. The dominance of so few specs, however, is a little staggering, especially when looking at tanks and healers.  We can only hope 9.0.5 and its later hotfixes can address these specs, so perhaps some significant buffs would help there.

The Mythic+ premade group finder gets a lot of use, and the more frustrated players get with it, the weirder the descriptions of the groups get, so we're taking a look at the funny, creepy and one truly perfect one.
The first one we're taking a look at is your basic reverse psychology move, with some interesting math on top:

      Found by: NORATHEDESTROYER.
Then we're on to something similar, although a little weirder, with this (hopefully) satiric post:

      Found by: Dasquare22.
And now here's something... new, really weird and pretty creepy (with the added bonus of many boost group reports in the chat log, which has become a default part of the premade group finding experience):

      Found by: Galind_Halithel.
This next one isn't really about the description, but two of the groups on the list, and the piece is titled "Ships in the night":

      Found by: AKeeneyedguy.
But we saved the best for last, with probably the most accurate description and the most successful way to find good group members:

      Found by: sentenza63.

You've probably/definitely run across some similarly hilarious or weird ones in your time with the group finder, so post them below if you remember what they said!
