Will PvP-Specific Stats Return in Shadowlands?

Recommended Posts

15501-arena-skirmishes-bonus-event-20th-

Blizzard is aware of the current issues with PvP vendors in Shadowlands, and Ion came up with two possible fixes for the problem.

The current problem with the Shadowlands PvP vendors is that certain secondary stat combos are missing on the gear, forcing players to do PvE if they want to complete their sets and get the stats they want to be competitive in PvP.

Furthermore, spending ~165 hours on getting gear that's 7 item levels higher than Mythic+0 gear feels a bit underwhelming.

Game Director Ion Hazzikostas had a few words to say about PvP feedback in the latest Shadowlands Development Update.

While the developers think WoW is an interconnected ecosystem of different content and systems and the strongest players should be the ones who do various activities, each progression (PvP, Mythic dungeons, raiding) should offer the majority of tools required for success in that mode. The current vendors fall short in that regard.

The WoW dev team is considering two options to fix the problem:

  1. Reworking secondary stat coverage on PvP vendor;
  2. Providing PvP-specific bonuses through items.

We don't know what Ion means by "PvP-specific bonuses." To me, it sounds like they want to implement some set bonuses for PvP gear on the vendors to make it more compelling in PvP instead of making PvP-specific stats like PvP Power or Resilience return.

PvP Itemization

We have been following the constructive feedback about the range of gear available on our PvP vendors, and we agree with the underlying concerns. While WoW is an interconnected ecosystem of different content and systems and we feel that the very strongest characters should be the ones who participate and excel in a wide range of activities, each individual progression path should offer the majority of the tools required for success in that path. The current PvP vendors fall short of that goal.

We are considering a few different solutions, such as reworking the stat coverage of the vendor gear and/or providing PvP-specific bonuses through those items. As soon as we've settled on a direction, we'll share our plan for feedback, and get the changes up on Beta for testing.

Oh right it's not neccesarily pvp stats. Oh well, just as good, what's important to me (and i dare guess to others) is that pvp is the best way to gear for pvp (or that you simply don't have to gear like in legion). Ion's suggestion has potential for that.

could be the "item has +whatever ilvls while in pvp" that was in WoD as well (just need to somehow avoid LFG tool from counting the boosted ilvl fop PvE listings at least, pretty sure that system was used to fake being geared higher back then)

What a fantastically grey non-statement. This is almost a politiical level of spin.

To clarify, "The majority of the tools required for success" , in no sense means "the best gear available". Hell there's no definition of what he means given at all. Better start getting ready to look up the next BiS Raid Trinket for arenas.

What bothers me, again, is that he says, the most powerful characters should be those, that do all types of content at the highest level.
That implies, that you will be forced to mythic raid and do high keys for top pvp gear, again.
I'm so done with that sh*t...

I would love to have both item sets viable for pvp, either from pvp itself or from mythic+ dungeons.

It would also feel bad if myth+ gear is not helping in pvp and if so many people would stop doing mythics then. A balance between both seems to be highly desirable.

Here's another Mythic+ non-meta victory, with a controller using tank finishing up the achievement in the worst Covenant for the spec in M+, in PUGs!
We look at the log rankings, tier lists and various other optimizations and standings a lot here, so it's also important to point out that you really can get most non-highest end content done with any spec you want. Berub proved this and then some, as they got KSM while tanking as a Blood Death Knight Night Fae, the worst Covenant for M+ for the spec AND used a controller while doing it! And the best part? The reason Berub chose Night Fae is because of the armor looks!

And while many others have completed KSM with off-meta specs, and some did with a controller as well, the tank + worst Covenant + controller part is especially impressive, and Berub didn't quite mention the control method to the groups, or those runs probably never would have happened at all. Here are some comments from the journey:
Hopefully examples like this encourage players to try new things and now be quite as limited by the meta, despite it being pretty hard to get into groups, especially for DPS.

This week's world boss is Mortanis and you can find him in Maldraxxus.

There seem to be some new issues with the EU authentication servers, as many players are unable to log in. So if you're having trouble playing at the moment, don't worry, it's not just you:

Anyone having issues loggin in (EU)? fix the servers Blizzard have also responded on the matter, but it seems to still be ongoing:
So we'll just have to wait a bit more, although the issue has been persisting for about an hour now.

Are you wondering how your spec performs in Mythic+? Here's a tier list with all specializations!
      DISCLAIMER
In this article, we are taking a look at the tier list for Mythic+ based on the data gathered by Benched.me. The site plots all runs available from the Blizzard API (excluding the Chinese region) on a single ridge plot, so it is different from our Shadowlands Mythic+ Rankings maintained by Petko.
      How the Data is Calculated
To rank all specializations, Benched.me uses something called Meta Ratio Score. The "ratio" is between the specialization's representation in the meta vs. its representation in the population. For example, a specialization makes up 3% of all players in the population, but 6% in the meta, which means that spec's ratio is 6% / 3% = 2.
Furthermore, the site defines the "population" as all keys level 2 through 15 and the "meta" as keys 16 and above. Based on that, we break down specs into tiers based on their meta ratio as follows:
S-Tier: Ratio of at least 1.5. A-Tier: Ratio between 1 and 1.5. B-Tier: Ratio between 0.5 and 1. C-Tier: Ratio below 0.5, but greater than 0. F-Tier: Ratio of 0 (the spec isn't present in the high-level bin at all). Spec Tier List for Mythic+
      S-Tier
      Fire Mage - 2.02 ratio Balance Druid - 1.75 ratio Outlaw Rogue - 1.74 ratio Vengeance Hunter - 1.64 ratio A-Tier
      Holy Paladin - 1.37 ratio Restoration Shaman - 1.36 ratio Windwalker Monk - 1.33 ratio Marksmanship Hunter - 1.28 ratio Brewmaster Monk - 1.15 ratio Fury Warrior - 1.14 ratio Discipline Priest - 1.08 ratio Affliction Warlock - 1.08 ratio B-Tier
Guardian Druid - 0.89 ratio Unholy Death Knight - 0.75 ratio Shadow Priest - 0.73 ratio Havoc Demon Hunter - 0.72 ratio Restoration Druid - 0.71 ratio Blood Death Knight - 0.61 ratio Protection Paladin - 0.53 ratio Holy Priest - 0.5 ratio Elemental Shaman - 0.5 ratio C-Tier
Enhancement Shaman - 0.47 ratio Protection Warrior - 0.41 ratio Mistweaver Monk - 0.41 ratio Feral Druid - 0.41 ratio Survival Hunter - 0.39 ratio Destruction Warlock - 0.39 ratio Frost Mage - 0.37 ratio Retribution Paladin - 0.35 ratio Assassination Rogue - 0.35 ratio Frost Death Knight - 0.31 ratio Subtlety Rogue - 0.31 ratio Arcane Mage - 0.31 ratio Arms Warrior - 0.30 ratio Demonology Warlock - 0.28 ratio Beast Mastery Hunter - 0.19 ratio
