Loading Speed Times in WoW: SSD vs HDD Comparison

Recommended Posts

51730-wow-shadowlands-system-requirement

Reddit user player112304 created a video, where they compare just how faster an SSD is compared to a regular HDD when it comes to loading times in World of Warcraft.

Recommended system requirements for Shadowlands now include a Solid State Drive (SSD) and Blizzard mentions in minimum requirements that Hard Disk Drives (HDD) may impact player experience, and here's why.

Check out how long it takes to load into Dalaran and reach the Vindicaar on Argus with an SSD and HDD!

SSD vs HDD: Loading Dalaran & Vindicaar. from r/wow

SSD vs HDD

  • With an SSD, loading into Dalaran and reaching the Vindicaar on Argus took just 27 seconds.
  • On the other hand, the HDD had slow loading times and by the time the SSD was on Argus, the game didn't even load Dalaran, and it took a whopping 76 seconds to reach Argus.

The funny thing is that with an HDD, the teleport beacon on Krasus Landing to Argus, and the NPCs didn't even spawn when the player reached them, so it is really a good idea to get an SSD for the Shadowlands.

Even better with my slow HDD:
When Dalaran finally shows up on my screen, my character model doesnt. And while all the details load, including my character, i can already "move" but the camera stays in place where my character should have appeared. So i need to look at the minimap to see where i move, because the camera doesnt. And after being able to "move" like this for about 30secs, my charcter is loaded, and the camera snaps into position where i moved in the meantime.

In legion i made it a minigame, if i am able to reach my destination just via minimap, and if i am stuck at some doorway midair, or a fence or so, and my minimap didnt move, i try to guess where i ended up. ? Whenever i get to Dalaran nowadays it's this minigame again for me. so nostalgic ❤️

Thats actually just a bug. I've ran WoW on an SSD for years now and I still get that occasionally albeit with fast load times still. I can easily load into Dal within 10 seconds or so but my model wont be there.

Game Director Ion Hazzikostas has confirmed that the Dracthyr race will have more class options in The War Within. However, this feature may not be ready in time for the expansion's launch.
This update was highlighted in a tweet by MrGM, who shared insights from a London content creator interview about the Dracthyr.
The plan is to introduce the ability for Dracthyr to play as other classes in War Within. Emphasis on playing in Visage form. Required animations for other classes are actively being worked on. The implementation is unlikely to happen at launch, but targeted for early in the expansion cycle. Placeholder for tweet 1780748422066188399
