How to Quickly Update Your WoW Addons for the Shadowlands Pre-Patch

Recommended Posts

52492-best-wow-addon-managers-in-2020-fo

While we're still waiting for servers to come back online, it's time to update your addons!

  1. Download and install WoWUp.
  2. Launch WoWUp and visit the "Get Addons" tab. Make sure you have "Retail" selected in the dropdown. Click on the Install button next to the addon you'd like to install.1.JPG
  3. Don't forget to install or update essential addons, including Bigwigs / Deadly Boss Mods for dungeons and raids, Details!/Recount for healing/DPS meters, WeakAuras, etc.
  4. Launch the game when the servers are back up and enjoy the pre-patch!

Just curious, i've always used the Twitch (formerly curse) launcher, what makes this addon manager better?

Twitch will be discontinued soon and you will either need to use the Curseforge app, or go with third-party addon managers like WoWUp, or download everything manually.

If you just want to update your addons, without getting any stuff like "watch stream XYZ" or promotions, ads ... then WoWup is the solution.

Wait. Twitch will be discontinued or, using Twitch as means to access and update addons will be discontinued?

Overwolf bought CurseForge as former Twitch repository and therefore Twitch wont offer this function anymore. (correct me if the spelling was wrong here @mods)

The latter. It's been sold off by Twitch back to Curseforge, which itself is under new ownership.

Okay, that's good to know. I hated having to go through Twitch.

I've been a WOW player since the days you had to manually put in your add-ons. I removed Twitch and use WOW UP and will be doing the happy dance for a long time! SOOOOO easy to use. Sooooo compact! NO advertising and useless garbage. JUST add-ons and easy to install and update! LOVE IT! Good riddance Twitch.

I transferred from twitch to wowup yesterday the 12th. No problems, all addon moved over and I love how easy it is to use.

Thanks for the news about WoWUp.  I will check it out.  Been using addons since we could plug them in ourselves.  I need to stream line and really only use the ones that make the most sense for me.  WAY too much clutter

"On Windows you will most likely get a SmartScreen alert saying the app is unrecognized.

The only way to prevent this is for us to pay for a special cert which is just currently not worth it."

Not digging that.

Here's some hilarious footage of two players cosplaying as Dwarves on stream while playing Shadowlands.
Jen and Eric are streamers who dressed up as dwarves on their stream. This is not the first time we see both as dwarves!
Eric's Dwarf accent is really on point in the video and you will fall off your chair when you see him stand up and walk. Even Jen couldn't hold back her laughter.

Blizzard have detailed what's been going on in relation to server stability and the long queues some servers are experiencing:
      EU (source)
Since shortly after the launch of Shadowlands, we’ve experienced some service issues that are negatively impacting gameplay on a small number of realms. In this region, we’ve been monitoring and working around the clock to solve these issues for:
Blackhand Blackmoore Dentarg Draenor Echsenkessel Hyjal Kazzak Mal’Ganis Silvermoon Taerar Twisting Nether We increased realm capacity to let more players than ever before into a single realm, but extreme demand on a few realms has exceeded even that capacity, so we have dialed down some of our earlier changes. We are trying to carefully balance service stability and accessibility, and exploring multiple avenues to get everyone online and playing smoothly.
This issue is our number one priority. We will continue to work to solve this as quickly as possible, and we will provide further updates as necessary.
Thank you very much for your patience.

We have an interesting 2-hander you can acquire in Maldraxxus, which not only comes with a pretty solid 180 item level (Mythic dungeon equivalent) but also gets you a pet and achievement as well! The sword itself isn't exactly a secret, but the way to get it is pretty convoluted, and if you're 60 and have unlocked all the zones it shouldn't take you more than 20 or so minutes to get it. The tooltip indicates an item level of 85, but it seems to scale with player level, and our own Impakt got his at 180 (there's a small chance it's actually based on your own item level, but that seems very unlikely).

The Sorrowbane sword is in Maldraxxus' Theater of Pain (not inside the dungeon), and has a pretty cool test of strength/sword in the stone type thing going on, as it's stuck with Oonar's Arm. You'll need to get strong enough to lift it out, and that's where a LOT of going around and getting potions and mushrooms and more comes in.

The only RNG factor (if you've played the main campaign to the end) to this is a World Quest that needs to be up in order for you to get the sword (as well as the Oonar's Arm pet - which is actually much easier to get - and Harvester of Sorrow achievement) - A Few Bumps Along the Way is required.

If you're up for a little adventure and are max level, check your World Quests and if the bumps are there, go and get yourself a sword/achievement/pet! If you need more details, coordinates etc, head on over to Lazey's comment on Wowhead.

It seems the Covenant switching issue were indeed unintended, as Blizzard has fixed the problems!
      Switching (source)
With a hotfix to the game about an hour ago, we fixed an issue where players who swapped Covenants could not display the first chapter of their new campaign as complete after completing the quests.
You should now be able to log out, log back in, and visit your Sanctum to find that you have Souls and can proceed forward from the state your character was in.

The first thing that greets you as you enter Oribos after the Maw intro are two huge automatons/anima infused armors/whichever guardian construct form you want to call them. They're pretty imposing and give you a sense of otherworldliness, the Protector Captain in particular. Well, it turns out you just have to look a LITTLE closer and that facade falls apart.
Now that's one big head. So, is it time for the conspiracy theories that the Shadowlands are all a fraud and make with smoke and mirrors to deceive us? Did we REALLY kill N'Zoth or is this just one of his tricks?! Or maybe it's just a human model used for easier coding , and Blizzard didn't figure anyone would be crazy enough to look that close! But krabby_patty did and we thank them for it!
