Shaman Class Changes on the Shadowlands Beta for November 4th

Recommended Posts

We have a lot of Shaman changes this week on the beta, as Elemental gets one tweak, while Enhancement gets plenty!

Blizzard LogoShaman (source)

One quick Elemental Shaman change was made this week:

  • Echoing Shock Echoing Shock (talent) can no longer duplicate the Venthyr Covenant ability Chain Harvest IconChain Harvest. The value of the talent combined with that Covenant ability were too strong together, so the interaction has been disabled.

For Enhancement Shaman, several numerical changes have been made to their base abilities to emphasize some abilities that aren’t performing as well as intended, and several adjustments have also been made to talents to help keep the value of talents on the same row much closer.

Some time ago, we made a change to reduce the effectiveness of all Maelstrom Weapon Maelstrom Weapon spenders by 50%, and we made the Maelstrom Weapon buff increase the damage or healing of these abilities by 20% per stack of the buff. This reduction has been reduced from -50% to -35%, which should increase the value and priority of your Maelstrom Weapon spending abilities. Additionally, Healing Surge Healing Surge is no longer affected by this -35% value anymore, but still retains the increased healing effectiveness and reduced cast time if you use the ability with stacks of Maelstrom Weapon.

Feral Spirit Feral Spirit has been a damage cooldown for Enhancement for many years, but has been slowly pushed down to be less effective relative to your other abilities. In this build, we’ve:

  • Increased the attack power scaling of the Feral Spirit by 250%, to make it feel more impactful to use as a DPS cooldown.

Several talents have some number tweaks:

The conduit Essential Extraction has been redesigned in this build. The previous version both increased the damage of Fae Transfusion and reduced the total time it took to channel the ability. This was increasing the burst damage of a channeled ability to a point where it was becoming difficult to counter effectively, so we changed it to instead reduce the cooldown of Fae Transfusion IconFae Transfusion from 25 to 40 seconds, depending on the conduit rank.

One final change made in today’s build is that the Night Fae covenant ability Fae Transfusion IconFae Transfusion should now generate 3 stacks of Maelstrom Weapon Maelstrom Weapon when you fully channel the ability, up from 1 stack. This should offset more of the loss of melee attacks made while channeling the ability and also give a nice guaranteed way to generate Maelstrom Weapon stacks when needed.

Image: a copyright lawyer lying in wait.
It seems Blizzard do read reddit and take some cues from there, as an update to the PTR today came directly from an earlier post on r/wow!
A few days ago, redditor GrandmasterBow spotted that the copyright line at the bottom of the login screen hadn't been updated since the new year, and made a funny post/very serious copyright claim 3 days ago:
It seems Blizzard did not want to get into the global conversion rates for hugs, as Tyrsenus spotted a change on the PTR client today, with the copyright line being updated!

That's too bad for GrandmasterBow, as their plans to take over the game have been thwarted, but we can all be on the lookout next year, and already start thinking about all the things we'll change if we call dibs on the copyright in time!

The current patch 9.0.5 PTR build (37774) has been marked as a Release Candidate, meaning we're close to it going live. Blizzard have already stated that the patch is expected to arrive some time in March and this very much confirms that. The 23rd would be the best guess but we may see it as early as the 16th as well, so here's hoping!

While 9.0.5 isn't a major content patch it's still bringing plenty with it, from the new Mythic+ Valor System as well as improved M+ loot to many tuning passes for legendaries, Covenant abilities and classes, Epic Battleground, Maw and Torghast changes and more. You can read all the changes here.

Blizzard just announced an upcoming tuning pass for 3 bosses in Castle Nathria and several changes to Sanguine Depths!
      Raid and Dungeon (source)
We’re working on a slate of adjustments to several encounters that we intend to enact with scheduled weekly maintenance (early a.m. PST on March 2 in this region). Here are the planned changes:
      Dungeons and Raids
Castle Nathria Lady Inerva Darkvein Healers are now chosen as a last resort target of Shared Suffering and Concentrate Anima on Raid Finder, Normal, and Heroic difficulties. The ambient damage of Loose Anima for open containers has been reduced on Raid Finder, Normal, and Heroic difficulties. Targets of Shared Suffering no longer take damage from the beams they are wearing on Raid Finder, Normal, and Heroic difficulties. Passing through the opposite edge will continue to damage targeted players. Hungering Destroyer Health reduced by 5% on Mythic difficulty. Reduced the damage players wearing Gluttonous Miasma take by 10% on Mythic difficulty. The damage increase of Essence Sap has been reduced by 20% per stack. Expunge now shows up in the combat log when it is applied to players. Volatile Ejection now shows up as a debuff when a player is targeted with this spell. Sun King’s Salvation Increased the amount of healing Essence Overflow heals Kael’thas to 2.5% of his maximum health on all difficulties (was 2%). The tooltip will be updated to reflect the change in a future hotfix or patch. Increased the healing done bonus from Sinfall Boon to 100% per application on Mythic difficulty (was 50%). Reduced the strength of the Cloak of Flames damage shield on Shade of Kael’thas by 10% on Mythic difficulty. Sanguine Depths Wicked Oppressor’s Wrack Soul cast time increased to 2 seconds (was 1.5 seconds) and is cast less frequently. Regal Mistdancer’s Echoing Thrust damage reduced by 20% and is cast less frequently. General Kaal’s health reduced by 10% during the gauntlet event. Thank you very much for your feedback!

It seems it's the week of leveling tricks, as we now have a very fast method on our hands, after yesterday's very low-effort one. Unlike that one, however, this one is definitely leaning on the exploit side of things, so keep that in mind.
Leavaris came across a bit of an anomaly over in Silithus, as the Hive'Zora location is home to some weird scaling, XP-wise. The mobs seem to have their XP values in a twist, but you need employ a little trickery first via Chromie Time and Party Sync. The mobs will now grant crazy amount of experience and could get you from 50-60 in under 2 hours, as Leavaris claims! We haven't tested this one out, but it seems to be working quite well in the video. There's a solid possibility that this might be considered an exploit, so keep that in mind if you plan to try it.
Party Sync has been a little weird XP-whise in general, but this one will (and should) get fixed pretty soon.

Here come two more weeks of Mythic+ logs, with the class tuning changes having settled in. This week saw a +26 get taken down and not that many changes in the rankings since last time, as the meta seems to have very much settled in, so we'll be looking at the DPS, tanks and healers in all keys and some higher ones, as usual.
Note: The logs are based on POINTS (as noted in each image), and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We'll also be switching back to the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity.
In the 95th percentile we see some movement: unlike in raids, Mythic+ players haven't utilized the new Frost Mage buffs as much and even though the spec has jumped up a little, it's nowhere near the huge spike we've seen in Nathria. As for the all percentiles chart, we do have a new No.1, as Outlaw has taken Fire down a notch.

      Healer Specs
Not many changes to healers, as the rankings are pretty much the same as a couple weeks ago:

      Tank Specs
The tank meta seems very much set, as there haven't been any changes to the rankings for a long time now, as Vengeance dominates all:

      High Keys
And now it's on to the high-end, as we take a look at the +15 and +20 all percentile data for DPS roles, where things look a lot different week-to-week every time, as there's much less data to work with. Of note this time around is the disappearance of Assassination from +20ies, as they were on top for quite a while and are now at the very bottom. The +15s are much more stable due to many more runs, and the big change since a few weeks ago is that Fury dropped down a little, as the hype over the buffs seems to have died down a little and Fire/Windwalker returned to their 2nd and 3rd places.
