Torghast Focused Beta Testing: Blizzard Needs You!

Recommended Posts

It's time fo everyone on the beta to delve into the Tower of the Damned, as Blizzard are asking for a focused test of the new game mode to assess difficulty tuning. There's even new character templates for the test!

When it comes to Torghast, we feel like we’ve found the fun, but we also want to make sure that difficulty tuning is where it needs to be. Over the next couple of days, we’d appreciate as many Beta testers as possible to venture into the tower and slay the Jailer’s forces … for science!

How to slay for science

  • Enter the Shadowlands Beta.
  • Select Oribos or The Maw as your realm.
  • Depending on your playstyle, create a new character using either the Shadowlands - L60 - Layer 1 or Shadowlands - L60 - Layer 4 template.
  • Shadowlands - L60 - Layer 1
    • This is meant to be your introductory run in Torghast, even if you’ve never set foot in there before.
    • While you’re expected to attempt Layers 1-3 using this template, if you’re feeling adventurous, feel free to attempt the harder Layer.
  • Shadowlands - L60 - Layer 4
    • If you’re a more experienced Torghast player, this should provide you with a reasonable level of challenge, but nothing insurmountable.
    • While you’re only expected to attempt Layers 4-6 using this template, if you’re feeling adventurous feel free to attempt the harder Layers.
    • You will also have an item in your bags that could come in handy during your run.
  • Once your character is created, hit “Enter World” and your character should appear at the Torghast lobby entrance.
  • Two portals will be available for you to choose from up ahead.

All you need to do to start a run is run up to the portal, select your desired Layer based on which character template you chose, and off you go!

Sending feedback for science

As always, when you’re done, please post your feedback in the Torghast feedback thread, and please answer any or all of the questions below:

  • Which portal did you choose and at what Layer difficulty?
  • How many players were in your group?
  • What Class & Spec did you and your group play as?
  • Did you successfully finish your run?
  • How many times, if at all, did you die?
  • How long did it take you to complete the run?
  • Were there any powers that seemed to have a major impact on your run?
  • Did any enemies or enemy abilities stand out to you as particularly troublesome?

Known issues

Due to an issue with how character templates work, if you change your character’s Specialization, your active Soulbind may disappear. To address this, a Forge of Bonds has temporarily been spawned in the Torghast entryway so that you can re-active it. You should only need to do this once, after which your activated Soulbind will persist.

Thank you very much!

It appears that the Weekly Maximum Valor cap has been removed on the 9.0.5 PTR. The patch releases this week on March 9.
Previously, players could only earn 750 Valor each week, as shown in the screenshot below.

On Thursday, Blizzard announced in a blue post that they were increasing Valor caps on the 9.0.5 PTR. Most importantly, they also added that there would be a cap of 1,500 on how much Valor a character can hold at a time, which seems to have been scrapped in the end.
Currently, on the PTR, it looks like Blizzard has entirely removed the Weekly Valor cap in a hotfix (see missing tooltip). The Total Maximum cap has been increased to 8,750 Valor.

We're still waiting for Blizzard to confirm if the Weekly Cap has been indeed scrapped or if it's just a bug.

ChromedDragon created a map of Draenor before Garrosh showed up. Check it out!
On the map, we see how the individual Orc clans completely surrounded the Draenei from almost all directions.

Tanks are getting a lot of focus in Shadowlands with the increased Mythic+ focus, and it's only going to get more intense with the next pach, so we rounded up some funny stories, depressing interactions, memes and similar. Here's a grab-bag of tanking experiences from many players.
While all tanks are always needed, things change around the +15 mark, as it's not just DPS that have this particular experience, and if you're one of the least popular/worst specs...
Then there's this type of terrible, which hasn't really changed that much since, well, forever, as there will always be assholes out there, but there really do seem to be more and more of them these days, especially in Mythic+...

      Source: ChoGallMeta.
And even if you do well, it's never enough for some people:
But, sometimes it's quite a different feeling, as however terrible players might be to you, you're still a tank damn it!
And there are some perfect moments that can only come from tanking, including this one titled "My greatest M+ tanking Achievement...":

      Source: Sheth1984.
If the group gets really annoying, you can always have the last word too:

      Source: Boars89.
And finally, if you get REALLY tired of all the DPS not interrupting, the healer selfishly trying to keep those idiots that stand in every mechanic under the sun alive instead of keeping you above 80%, or people dare to question your route, you can always just go with your own kind!
