Recommendations for an enjoyable ranged petless class for solo PvE / world PvP?

Hey everyone, returning player here!

I’ve always played melee before but I want to try something new.
What are your recommendations for an enjoyable ranged petless class for solo PvE (elite quests) / solo World PvP / BGs?
Secondary question: what is the most survivable/tanky ranged class (without a pet)?

I’ll be levelling with it from 1 to 60 (with wPvP on as soon as I can), no boost.

Most important features for me by order of importance:

• Survivable. Able to do (easy) group quests without too much trouble as a returning casual player. I’m okay killing things slowly if I don’t die.
• Not rolled by every class in wPvP and BG. Obviously I know I’m gonna get killed by a rogue ambushing me, I just don’t want to feel useless 1v1 against most classes at an equivalent skill level.
• Nice utility/mobility/convenience skills.

Can have a pet but it can’t be the focus of the class, I really don’t enjoy pet classes in general. That’s why I’m not interested in BM Hunter / Warlock which are the usual suspects for survivable solo ranged classes.

I was thinking about Balance Druid or Ele Shaman, but I really don’t know anything about them now. Maybe Shadow Priest?

Any recommendations?
