Torghast Doesn't Have to Take Long: 13 Minute Layer 8 Run Video

Recommended Posts

Much has been said about Torghast, but the majority of player complaints, even while it was much harder, was about the length of each run. Even the lack of rewards was such a hot topic mostly due to the long run times and frustration reaching its peak after 1++ hours long runs that ended in a defeat from the final boss.

Well, today we get to see a Torghast speed run, as (appropriately named) iCanCraft has pushed through layer 8 of the upper reaches in less than 13 minutes! Obviously the timing will heavily depend on spec and anima powers, but it's great to see shorter runs even of the highest layers be very doable.

In this video I clear Layer 8 of The Upper Reaches in 12:47 playing my Venthyr Arms warrior. I decided to attempt some speed clears to make the weekly Torghast runs a little more interesting. Anima power RNG and floor-layout play a pretty large part in getting a succesful run. This makes it difficult to really optimize a run, but it's still fun to do nonetheless. Between classes and specs you should expect vastly different clear times as well. As I get better gear and get more familiar with the different wings, I'm hoping to push down my clear times as the weeks go on.

The run is far from perfecet, but I hope you enjoy watching it and get some ideas out of it regardless

As item levels increase and players get to know which anima power combos work best, the runs should get shorter and shorted for all of us, as we don't need to clear everything to get the max amount of powers and Phantasma and have a shot at the final boss. Hopefully this will make the tower more interesting for the currently frustrated players, as there's a lot of potential in Torghast, and Blizzard is known for scrapping actually good, if unpolished ideas, due to the community reaction. What I'm saying is pretty please don't kill Torghast before it becomes all it can be (yes I'm still upset you killed the Garrison/player housing).

It wasn't implemented well at all. It shouldn't have been the end game hub, it shouldn't have been instanced and it shouldn't have been limited to one character. What should have happened is that Shattrath City became the hub and you get given a HQ there in which to do your business. You then somehow buy / get given / help out at Stables, Jewellery Shops etc. Each shop can then be interacted with in different ways, dependant on character you're on. For example an Enchanter could go deeply into the enchanting store "story" and would have access to lots of perks, whereas a character without Enchanting would be able to gain access to only a small part of the shop. Each shop should then have been instanced, at least giving the outside areas a feel of being populated by someone other than yourself.

Is no one going to point out they don't have the Layer 8 debuffs? Or that Thrall is at the end of the scenario?

He shows exactly where he entered though? Maybe he has some Ui that moves debuffs or similar? Afaik you dont select layer 8 to get to Thrall at all, it's a separate instance (not sure about this one since I didnt do Thrall yet but Jaina was like that)? Also I've read Thrall shows up if you didn't do the quest anyway in other threads.

Well, next to his action bars you can see debuff with 6 stacks, so no, he do have that debuff.

I've done many layer 8's as a Warrior sub 15 minutes almost every week. Nothing special tbh. Note: As both Arms and Fury. I also go in blind and dont touch the bottom layers because I'm a real man. Good to see blizzard cares more about our Torghast balance than actually balancing the specs in PvE.

Lead Software Engineer Orlando Salvatore shared his thoughts on Plunderstorm now that the event has concluded.
      (Source)
Thank you for playing Plunderstorm. Feedback was heard, Plunderlords have risen, fire whirls were nerfed, tournaments were conducted, W’s were shared. We tried something new with this, and it’s been a hell of a ride.

Working on and releasing Plunderstorm has been a dream come true. Starting from an early prototype, to not knowing exactly how a BR would work, to changing how healing worked in the mode about a million times before it launched, a lot of challenges that we needed to overcome.

The energy that our peers brought to Plunderstorm while it was in development was next level. We got so many great ideas and things changed around because of our internal playtests. Every discipline brought in their passion, from QA, to the design, to the music, to the engineering, to the art, to marketing, to many more involved. There was no shortage of good ideas thrown around.

The team working on Plunderstorm day to day was relentless, driven, and clearly cared about delivering a fun, quality experience. We had many discussions about what else we could do to juice up the game mode.

Plunderstorm’s point of entry was an important one for us. Though some may have been disappointed they couldn’t use their main characters, the low amount of clicks needed, no previous content clearing required and Dragonflight not being required was an important goal of ours. We wanted anyone, no matter who you are or what experience you have, to be able to load into a Plunderstorm match. No leveling needed, nothing. Just jump straight in and start playing.

There were a ton of first we tried with Plunderstorm. There are things we may do again, or may never do again. And all of that is ok! We learned a lot from this. There’s never been anything like Plunderstorm in WoW, and it was a huge experimental feature during a time when the expansion is winding down and kicking off a great 20th anniversary. We should never be afraid of trying something new. As a player, novelty is what drove me to WoW in the first place.

Steve Jobs once said “Innovation is the ability to see change as an opportunity, not a threat". WoW is a huge game, with a lot of players who all play the game differently. Innovating in WoW is something we should strive for to seek opportunities. Introducing new playstyles, new fun moments, new ways to interact and more is what game development is all about. It’s been a dream come true to be part of something so wildly different.

Someone once said “World of Warcraft players are some of the smartest players in the world”. This is a very true statement. This community should never forget how special and great it is.

      Thanks for plundering with us.

Blizzard have clarified that the recent concern over addon limitations in patch 10.2.7 is merely a bug and is being worked on.
      RP Addons (Source)
it’s looking like in 10.2.7 PTR the addon comms (something primarily used for addons like the insanely popular addon TRP3 used by Roleplayers) is going to be severely rate-limited server-side, making them effectively unusable. This is going to disproportionately affect the RP community and Blizzard should have communicated this much earlier in the development cycle.
The author of TRP3 has stated they have been looking for a solution but as of right now, there won’t be one come patch day which will kill the addon and many other addons as well. Blizzard, please roll back these changes! - Êruaran
We’ve identified the bug causing this issue on the PTR, and we’re actively investigating solutions to address it in a future build.

We're taking a look at the number of Mythic+ runs completed in the first week of Season 4!
The chart provided by MythicPlusPoster allows us to compare these figures to those from earlier Dragonflight seasons.

In the first week of Season 4, players completed 1,486,891 dungeon runs. This season, Blizzard adjusted the difficulty levels for dungeons, making Heroic and Mythic Dungeons not only viable for gearing up but also comparable to the Mythic 2-10 keys from Season 3, which were included in the Mythic+ totals back then.
