Does the Great Vault Offer Too Many Duplicates?

Recommended Posts

The Great Vault (Weekly M+ Shadowlands Chest) offers up to 9 item choices, but at the same time, the community thinks it offers too many duplicates, especially if you unlock just a few options...

The Great Vault is clearly a huge improvement over the BfA Weekly M+ Chest. However, it happens relatively often that players get offered duplicate item choices from it (duplicate meaning the very same item or a different item of same slot).

This seems to be affecting those who only unlock a relatively small number of item choices (3-4) each week.

Let's look at some instances that support the claim. Here, a player received basically the same item they already got.

Deminity unlocked 3 items to choose from this week. All 3 items were, unfortunately, slippers. One is even the same item they already have equipped.

Those two weren't the only ones to report their findings...

Do you think the Great Vault offers too many duplicates? Does unlocking more slots (item choices) reduce the probability of duplicate items? Let us know in the comments down below.

More slots, more chances at non-duplicates. However, it ABSOLUTELY offers too many duplicates. I've had multiple weeks with 3-5 options available that really I could only pick 1. The others were useless because I'd had them at the same ilvl or higher the week before.

It already calculates our ilvl, so the data to make sure all the options are better than what you have (if possible) should be there. They just need to exclude it. It's a weekly reward, it should be your source of "that one piece" upgrade.

More specific example, last week it gave me a 220 1h for my mythic+ option... this week, again a 220 1h. I have 9 other slots that could ABSOLUTELY use a 220 anything.

I dont understand why there is no "bad luck" protection? Its extremly frustrating when u get 220 ilvl duplicate from your only high item slot... Even in raid where u get aprox 1 drop per 10 bosses u can get a duplicate! I dont understand this.

i always do m+ as the highest vault ilvl.

i got 1 rading item, 3 m+ and 3 pvp items. today was the first day i overall had any duplicates. sometimes i got less pvp items and/or 1 more raid item but always 3 m+ and minimum 1 raid item. today i got offered same ring i got last week for m+ and same necklace i got in the first week where you could get pvp reward. thats all for me, no more duplicates yet.

also you probably wont get loot from last 2 raid bosses since the loot for hc would be 220 on them. so if its just a raid thing with those massive amount of duplicates (cause in the post its just shown 2 screenshots with raid gear and only 1 of the reddit guys mentioned his source of items) it might could be cause the loottable is smaller and you are with ~20 guys who can give loot to you which they allrdy gotten. while in m+ you get fewer items, less ilvl (max is 210 at end of dungeon for a +15 key, while the 210ilvl weekly reward is for a +5 key) and fewer people to trade with.

so i would only be worried if i get the same item every week, not if its a duplicate for another slot every week. sure its anoying but what would you expect?

never ever saw a weapon of any description, very sad, saw same bracers 4 times and cloak 3 times for something that is random, not so much maybe. would love a weapon , warrior inmy guild has had 3 weapons show over weeks - me none , very sad sad

Honestly, other game companies tilt the odds on "random" prize stuff like this to favor who they want to favor (IE streamers and such).   I wouldn't be shocked if blizzard did something similar here to increase "played" time by making it harder to get your gear...this is already baked into the system with less loot and so on.    Making take even longer via vault/drops having frequent duplicates would be another tool toward that end.    Worth noting that 9.1 is not even announced yet so they have more incentive to keep us on the current treadmill.

I want to say it was last week or the week before that I had nothing but wrists to pick from the Great Vault with one exception of a chest piece I've already had as a better ilvl.  I do less on my other two alts to just get 1 high keystone completed and they end up with the better reward than my Main who has multiple options to pick from.

This carries over to the Weekly Dungeon Event happening now. Received the exact same neck piece I got from the quest weeks ago and was still equipped. A guildmate has received the same bracers 3 weeks in a row with not even an extra stat like speed or leech.

It really doesn't seem to matter if you have many choices or a few. The RNG factor seems to be quite minimal and instead you can count on getting a duplicate or downgrade every week.

Since week 1 of M+, i haven't got 1 single weapon (every week i get at least 3 items) and one of my weapons is 184, so basically anything is an upgrade.

On the other hand, i've got the same pair of boots 3 to 4 times in a row.

Since i've started doing M+ and Raid, i've got 2, maybe 4 real upgrades.

This needs to change, we are doing content, we should be rewarded.

I got 7/10 Heroic last week, popped my vault and BOTH options were items I had equipped.  Same ilvl, no extra stats, no sockets, straight up the same.

My alt got the same necklace three weeks in a row, except that she had the 200 version, I did LFR and she got the 187 version in her vault all three weeks.

Add in Valor/Justice style badges as an alternative currency in the Vault, so we can earn pieces when we get dud selections.

I know your pain, I actually turned to PvP last week and now have a 207 weapon, but still no joy in vault / raid / M+

Yeah, am seeing the same.  100% chance that every week the same gloves that I chose on week 1 will be there.  They've been there every week so far and I'd bet all 3 million of my gold they'll be there again next Tuesday.

At least there's stygia.  And it's still slightly better than BfA.  It would be really nice if it cycled through variety though, maybe next xpac!

Well good job blizz the loot quality of SL has got people to quit, I also feel like quiting 2 weeks in a row every option in my vault was legs, well wouldn’t you know I am a boomkin so my LEGO slot is legs this has to be the worst I have felt. I would much rather do the corruption grind from the beginning of 8.3

I keep receiving shoulders almost every week in one of the option even that im using Legendary shoulders. Pvp buy/upgrade system is way much better. Just create a currency that drops from M+ last boss, corelated with the key and the time was made that run and create a vendor for pve stuff. Make it not cheap, make it that ppl to work for every piece of gear but remove the rng factor.

for 3 weeks in a row, nothing but duplicate items in all 3 slots for mythic +, this week 3 shoulder slots all a dps loss, what the point in playing if i have to wait a week to see if i can get anything that is an upgrade. over the years the loot system in wow has gotten worse, and this expansion seems to be so low you might as well do enough to get the weekly rewards and not bother playing the rest of the week

On the War Within Alpha, Haughty Chicken has made an interesting observation on a Khaz Algar mural. This post contains spoilers.
It seems we might have a glimpse of a fifth Old God. Some theories from the community suggest that this could be Xal'atath's true form, especially since her whereabouts have been unknown since she aided N'Zoth in the Battle for Azeroth. Now she's back as a powerful villain going into the War Within expansion. What do you think?
