Blizzard Increases Price of Subscriptions in Multiple Countries

Blizzard increased the price of subscriptions in multiple countries with the recent game time option changes.

Reddit user Shiigu reports that sub prices rose by almost 500% in Argentina.

The exact reason remains unknown, but some speculate that the price of subs in Argentina was a huge contributor to botting in WoW Classic.

The sub prices went up in Canada, Brazil, and Russia too. Wowhead reports that in Brasil, prices went up by 25-35%, but at the same time, Blizzard reduced prices of various services by 5-15%.

It's been SIXTEEN years without any increase in the cost of WoW subscriptions so I don't really see where any legitimate complaints can be made.

Maybe in your region it's sixteen years. For me, it's the secon increase since the pandemic, and an overall increase of 100% in the last 2 years.

Except for how prices in the UK went up a few years ago, prices in Canada went up in December last year, Australia last November...  I mean yes, other than all those countries where the prices DID go up you're entirely right.

Argentina's kind of shocked me. A fivefold increase seems like a lot. So here, slightly lazier people than I, this is what Google thinks the comparative values are:

UK's sub price is about £10/month, I forget exactly because I pay per half-year.

Argentina's sub was about £4.50... for six month's playtime! No wonder the botters were using it.

It is now approximately £30 for six months. That's about £4.50 a month. That's compared to £5.16 if you pay monthly. They are, in UK terms, still getting a good deal.

I remember being miffed about that. It it was what, a £1-2 increase?

£1-2 is, and I say this to make no particular point except damn it's funny, what Argentina players were paying for an entire month's subscription up until today.

Guess Argentina is a tough market? I don't really know if currency translates that directly.

But it's funny.

In Canada I swear WoW subs at launch of Classic were ~$12 CDN (either $11.99 or 12.99, I can't remember). Now they're $18.99/month. I love Warcraft but not enough to justify that expenditure in comparison to what other games offer for their one-time price. 🤷‍♂️

It's a GAME. Don't like it - unsub. I would rather spend $20 a month on a game than hundreds of dollars on alcohol. THIS is my drug of choice.

I would rather spend these 20 bucks on a few coffee mugs than a game that isn't good enough to begin with

Up until Dec/20 it was always $15 USD per month for Canadians. It's now $21.99 CND which is $17.48 USD with today's dollar...which is a fair increase in my mind after 16 years.

Afaik, some regions had some increases over the years, so it's not the first time. Also you have to account differences in income and currency exchange rates, apparently for Brazil those increases are very high, many players will have to quit, as the game will now cost something between 25-30% of average monthly salary.

I agree. Price of subscription is outdated and we can see how they struggle to pay their CEO and had to fire some people because of that. New price should be set to 59.99, everyone should be able to afford one new game every month without issues.

This, in addition to the game time thing, is probably to combat the botting that has become so rampant. It's just shitty that they chose this route and have legitimate and innocent people stuck in the crossfire.

We have a big batch today, with a Guardian buff, Warlock fixes, a Cobalt Assembly XP nerf, as well as  plenty of item and quest improvements, mostly focusing on Storm's Fury.
      January 25 (Source)
      Classes
Druid Protector of the Pack healing bonus to Regrowth and damage bonus to Moonfire has been increased by 60%. Developers’ note: Previously this talent was gaining extra benefit from various modifiers on the Druid class. With the patch, we changed it to grant the exact bonus listed in the tooltip for clarity and to reduce the swings in value. However, this left the talent feeling a lot weaker, so we’re increasing its spell power substantially to compensate. Guardian Fixed an issue causing Raze to consume extra Tooth and Claw stacks. Warlock Affliction Fixed an issue to where the 4pc set bonus, Cruel Epiphany, was being removed when casting Seed of Corruption, causing it to not benefit. Demonology Fixed an issue where Grimoire: Felguard affected the cooldown of Guillotine, Demonic Strength, and Felstorm. Guillotine, Demonic Strength, and Felstorm now put each ability on cooldown for the appropriate amount of time. Dungeons and Raids
Vault of the Incarnates Sennarth, the Cold Breath Sennarth no longer casts Chilling Blast immediately before entering Phase 2. Enemies and NPCs
Fixed an issue that caused the rare enemy, Bloodbeak the Ravenous, in Nokhudon Hold to have its health scale with attackers. Experience granted by enemies associated with the Cobalt Assembly has been greatly reduced. Developers’ notes: From the start, the Cobalt Assembly was intended to be a max-level feature, and Sundered Flame enemies should not have granted significant amounts of XP. Having a max-level player kill enemies while in a party with lower-level players who stand around and do nothing but receive XP and reputation is not the sort of gameplay we wish to encourage. We’ve adjusted the XP rate, rather than removed it completely, to encourage players to level in more fun, interactive ways, while still leaving this as an option that is no longer the best option. Items and Rewards
The Falling Star Flinger and Falling Star Catcher can now only be used outdoors. Thanks to the assistance of a couple Bronze dragons, the Legion timewalking vendor items now reflect the correct item levels. Removed the holiday requirement for many holiday transmog rewards. Fixed an issue where using Windscar Whetstone caused other on-use trinkets to remain unusable for several additional seconds past the displayed cooldown. Player versus Player
Warmode Fixed an issue that prevented characters from earning “the Horde Slayer” and “the Alliance Slayer” titles. Professions
Fixed an issue where crafting EZ-Thro Gravitational Displacer would craft ordinary Gravitational Displacers at certain qualities. Quests
The Azure Span In addition to completing tasks for Big Kinook, players can also earn credit for the quests “Community Feast” and “Aiding the Accord: A Feast For All” by throwing any discovered meat into the pot, or by yelling “Yes Chef!” when given a new task. Storm’s Fury Fixed an issue that can cause players to continue to gain stacks of Warmth when at the Temporal Conflux area after the event is over. Fixed an issue with portal capture so that captures occur faster based on number of nearby players. Fixed an issue that caused the lighting to rapidly change when entering or exiting a heat source. “Resisting the Storm” can now be completed when in a raid group. The HP of all Bosses in the Storm’s Fury event has been significantly reduced. The HP of the Winter’s Aegis enemies during the Glakis, Winter’s Wrath boss encounter has been significantly reduced.

Check out how the Mythic+ Tier List has changed with the release of Patch 10.0.5!
      DISCLAIMER
The following post is based on statistics provided by Subcreation, a website that gathers various Mythic+ data from live servers. Please note that the tier list is biased toward the top end because it only looks at the top 100 keys per dungeon per affix and ignores keys below +16 and untimed runs.
As a result, the data presented here will always differ from the Mythic Tier Lists maintained by Petko.
      Data Reliability
The data used in the post comes from Subcreation, a site maintained by Alcaras. Subcreation provides statistical analysis of Mythic+ dungeons, raids, and PvP in Shadowlands, and the data is provided via the Warcraft Logs API and Raider.io. If you'd like to support Subcreation, you can check out their Patreon.
      How the Data is Calculated
The site looks at the top 100 keys per dungeon per affix across all regions and examines their raider.io scores. For each dungeon and specialization, the site takes the lower bound of a 95% confidence interval of the top 100 runs for each specialization. The site then averages these lower bounds, one per dungeon, to get an overall average lower bound for each spec, which is finally used to create the tier list.
The site takes the lower bounds of the 95% confidence interval calculated and then clusters them into 6 buckets using the Ckmeans algorithm. You can find more information by reading the site's FAQ.
Tanks, Healers, Melee, and Ranged are all on the same scale. They're just shown separately for easier comparison across roles.
Mythic+ Tier List for Dragonflight Season 1: Week #7
The specs are ranked based on their lb_ci which stands for the lower bound of a 95% confidence interval. If a certain tier is missing, it's not occupied by any specialization.
The following tier list is for this week's affixes: Fortified, Bolstering, Storming, and Thundering.
      Tank Tier List
Based on 3,107 runs, ranging in difficulty from +16 to +26.
