Character Transfers Temporarily Closed in WoW Classic

Recommended Posts

Character transfers will be temporarily disabled on April 30 in preparation for snapshotting WoW Classic characters. Blizzard expects the service to be closed for multiple weeks.

Blizzard Logo(Source)

In order to prepare our systems which will handle snapshotting WoW Classic player-characters and preparing them to be separately playable on Burning Crusade Classic and WoW Classic Era realms, we will close the character transfer service in WoW Classic on April 30 at 10:00 a.m. PDT in this region.

We expect character transfers to be closed for multiple weeks, and we will let you know as soon as we can determine this process is nearly complete and we expect to re-open the service. For the duration of the closure, it will not be possible to transfer a WoW Classic player-character to or from any realm.

The actual snapshotting of all WoW Classic characters will occur after this closure. We will also announce that time at a later date.

The character transfer service closure in WoW Classic will have no impact whatsoever on the World of Warcraft: Shadowlands digital shop or services.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we perform this update.

There's a new/old featuring coming to BCC as, in response to player feedback, developers have found and fixed an old intended option to be able to increase the nameplate distance!
      Nameplate Distance (source)
It looks like in the original code, the original development team intended to create a checkbox that toggled nameplate distance between 20 and 41 yards, but ran into a technical limitation.
In an upcoming build of the Burning Crusade Classic Beta, you can set the nameplate distance between 0 and 41 yards (inclusive) by setting this command in the chat box:
      /script C_CVar.SetCVar(“nameplateMaxDistance”, 41)
      Thanks for the suggestion!

We've already seen the very first 2-man Classic kill for Onyxia, coming from 2 Alliance players from a while back, but now it's the Horde's turn to take WoW's most venerable dragon on! This one went just a little faster, about a minute ahead of the 56.5 minute timer for the Alliance team, as a Warrior and Priest took on a whole lot of whelps.
It's definitely a Horde first for Classic kill, so enjoy:

Blizzard just announced that there was a big wave of Burning Crusade Classic Beta access being sent out, to coincide with Wednesday's big launch test! So check your mails and your Battle.net launcher in case you want to play on the beta!
      BCC Launch Test (source)
On Wednesday, May 12, at 11:00 a.m. PDT (2:00 p.m. EDT), we’ll open the Dark Portal on a new Beta realm to test the Burning Crusade Classic launch.
We’ll open the new realm “Launch Test” on Tuesday for character copy, and to make sure we test thoroughly, we’ve just sent out one last big wave of Beta invites.
Please join us on your copied character on the Launch Test beta realm on May 12, and head to Outland at 11:00 a.m. PDT. We plan to keep that realm open for several hours, with all zones and instances available.
      Thank you very much!

Along with the comments focused on the pricing of BCC also came a whole lot of memes (mostly focused on the same theme), so we thought we'd take a look at those as well!
The focus is mostly on Activision and Bobby Kotick, the CEO, and regardless of what your stance is on the pricing, some of the memes are very thematically appropriate for BC at least:

      Source: GingerBreadMan5.
And then there's your standard, seen plenty of times before Bobby Kotick as Gallywix version:

      Source: Mr_Stach.
And your classic entry fee ones:

      Source: Dani Portsmouth.
But Blizzard don't get off easy either:

      Source: invisusira.
Then there's some South Park action, unfortunately not from the actual Warcraft episode though:
And some commentary on the players defending some of these decisions:

      Source: Ikeda_kouji.
And finally, we have a pretty somber comparison on the two Burning Crusade launcher, and the feeling the community had on them:

      Source: RoseFall.
While the general feeling in the community may not be the best right now, and there are certainly some questionable pricing decisions surrounding the BC Classic launch, it really is getting too easy to lose hype and excitement for something that a lot of players have been/are looking forward to, so if you find all this negativity too much, just hang on for a bit 'til launch and then enjoy the game!

After some confusion with a new Classic PTR build coming up and showing the Chronoboon Displacer as not working during the pre-patch, Blizzard hav now confirmed that this was a mistake and players will still be able to save their World Buffs during the Burning Crusade Classic pre-patch!
      Chronoboon (source)
I just confirmed with our dev team that yes, we intend Chronoboom Displacer to be usable in version 2.5 so that players who are raiding Naxx during pre-patch shouldn’t experience any difference.
I think the datamined item is just an older design that’s still hanging around, but isn’t being used at this time.
