Some Quite Specific WoW Memorabilia and the Stories That Go With It

Recommended Posts

Clipboard01.jpg

This week saw a fairly random appearance of a couple of players' memorabilia collections, featuring 12 "collector's items" in a wonderfully illustrated box.

Ok, so it's Mountain Dew, but technically it counts as memorabilia! Two players dug up their WotLK Alliance and Horde 12-packs, which definitely qualify as blasts from the past, and their posts sparked many fond and interesting memories from plenty other players as well! The two faction-themed drinks were a special promotion back in the summer of 2009 and came in Citrus Cherry Flavor for Horde and Wild Fruit Flavor for Alliance. And in case you were wondering, other cans are going for around 30-40$ on ebay.

First off there's the blue team with the Night Elf on the box:

The Horde version is in a slightly less welcoming home, as Drihtan's wife is not happy with it still hanging around the house:

The two cases sparked quite the nostalgia trip, as well as plenty of comments on how it must taste and general soda-related talk, with some players even having chosen their faction based on the taste:

Moving out and it was just put up, always joked about saving it for a special occasion.

I have kept them in A/C controlled room put up... I think 1 can did leak as a nes box of games has some sticky residue on it, as the case was sitting on top of the box. But it's a pretty easy clean and no damage to the nes games

Chugging is impossible now it's Returned to Syrup and goes brrrrrrr
- archklown555 (the owner of the Alliance ones)
...
Right now it might be more like dust flavored. We aren't going to try it.
It's like Hawaiian punch but with the kind of weird sour kick from mt dew

I wish they'd bring this flavor back, I remember it being really good ?
- Karrde2100 (OP)
...
I remember sneaking the alliance Mountain Dew as if anyone would see me at 10 and know I was actually horde lmao - naterzgreen
...
I remember they used to sell it in my high school vending machines. Alliance MtnDew is the best flavor next to Baja Blast. - Davidlarios231
...
I think preferring this flavor was the biggest factor in settling on the Horde when I started playing. - twelvetimesseven
...
When that stuff was new I drank a whole 12 pack of the Alliance blue in less than 4 hours. My eyes started vibrating in thier sockets and I shit green for 3 days.
Ah high school - Harfang1801
...
About 7 years ago, a local guy enlisted the local comic book store owner to source one of these. The guy could find anything, it was quite amazing. Three weeks later, he has 2 of these 12-packs, sells them to the guy. We are playing FNM, guy STARTS DRINKING THEM. He got 3 in before he had to run to the rest room as his body began rejecting it. - SilentLurker
...
I hope you realize that Mountain Dew, when expired, has this funny tendency to ferment like wine… hold it for another 10… you might have cans of ass, or cans that’ll kick your ass… - Katjakaisa
...
Always horde since vanilla, sadly the alliance one was streets ahead - Knives530
...
I was alliance back then, and still drank the shit out of the horde dew. Was so good. - Zadiuz
...
That stuff turned your poop the weirdest color. - Kinsata
...
This is how the plaque was spread in Stratholme. - BarKnight
...
You trying to start a new plague? Arthas would like words with you - Ehrre
...
hope they bring it back for the inevitable wotlk classic - antetja

I still have a 20oz Horde one. Drank it, but kept the bottle amd filled it back up with water and red food coloring so it still looks brand new basically after over 10 years.

It's been a big few days for the Race to World First, as the EU re-clear meant an actually pretty tense race for World 3rd, as Pieces and BDGG went at it trying to see who can defeat Sylvanas first and we got 5 guilds past the Banshee today!
While the top 2 has been determined for a while now, that doesn't mean the race is over, and we had yet another EU vs. US face-off on our hands! We actually had 8 guilds progressing on the final boss of the Sanctum today, but only BDGG, Pieces and Method were actually close to a kill. After a lengthy re-clear, both Pieces and Method were back progressing on the boss, and Pieces were doing well, managing to get under 50% in 134 pulls, and then after a few wipes, this happened:

Yep, that's right. 0.16%. THE closest any guild has come to defeating Sylvanas... without actually defeating her. It took Pieces over an hour to recover from that close of a call, but they did manage to focus up and get that extra tiny fraction of HP down, claiming and defending their previous World 3rd!

BDGG were the biggest  movers in this tier, as they caught up to Pieces quite quickly and gained 5 spots on the world stage since Nathria, earning their World 4th!

And finally, we got our 5th place guild today, as Method also improved from their Nathria performance, climbing 2 spots!

We still have plenty of guilds still progressing on Sylvanas, 6 to be exact, 5 spots in the top 10, and the Asia first yet to be crowned! And as a final treat, here's Complexity-Limit's multi-PoV World 2nd video:

The state of California's Department of Fair Employment and Housing has filed a lawsuit against Activision Blizzard.
As initially reported by Bloomberg Law, the lawsuit comes after a 2-year investigation and claims, among other things, that the company fosters a "frat boy" culture where female employees are subjected to constant sexual harassment, unequal pay, and retaliation, with cube crawls in which male employees "drink copious amounts of alcohol as they crawl their way through various cubicles in the office and often engage in inappropriate behavior toward female employees". It also claims Activision Blizzard's leadership has not addressed any of the listed issues nor prevented them in the workplace.
The WoW team was also talked about specifically: "Female employees working for the World of Warcraft team noted that male employees and supervisors would hit on them, make derogatory comments about rape, and otherwise engage in demeaning behavior, the agency alleges." Former WoW Senior Creative Director Alex Afrasiabi and Blizzard President J. Allen Brack are mentioned in the suit as well, and Afrasiabi's inappropriate behavior was allegedly well known and not handled well by Brack. Afrasiabi did quietly leave the company in 2020, however. Many Blizzard employees have come out about their experiences at the company, and you can read many of them on the WoW reddit here.
The lawsuit asks for an injunction to force Activision Blizzard to comply with workplace protections, deliver unpaid wages, pay adjustments, back pay, lost wages and benefits for female employees.
A spokesperson for Activision Blizzard sent a response to IGN, claiming the suit includes "distorted, and in many cases false, descriptions of Blizzard’s past" and that "The picture the DFEH paints is not the Blizzard workplace of today. Over the past several years and continuing since the initial investigation started, we’ve made significant changes to address company culture and reflect more diversity within our leadership teams." There's more to the response which you can read at the end of the article here.
Here's a link to the full lawsuit, which you should definitely take a look at.

More hotfixes arrive to 9.1 with Renown now dropping in Torghast, class tweaks and more!
      July 21 (Source)
      Classes
Druid Born Anew’s (Conduit) primary stat bonus reduces to 20 upon the beginning of a new encounter. Developers’ note: The intent of this bonus is to provide a benefit when using resurrections in combat. But it is best to avoid situations where players might feel compelled to min/max something like this before starting a pull. Priest Shadow Shadow Crash’s (Talent) ground visual will now match the area effect. Void Volley ’s (PvP Talent) ground visuals will now match the area effect and has more defined edges. Warrior Arms Fixed an issue where Swift Patrol (Niya Soulbind) caused the auto-attack timer to reset. Creatures and NPCs
Players now have a 2 second grace period to keep their vision of targets within the area contained by the Soul Chains between the Soul Cages during the Mor’geth encounter. Reduced the number of Prince Renathals in Sinfall. Press F to pay respects. Dungeons and Raids
Sanctum of Domination Defeating Sylvanas Windrunner on Mythic difficulty will now reward 2 Vengeance’s Reins. Remnant of Ner’zhul Players can no longer cause a second orb to become non-interactable while carrying an Orb of Torment. Plaguefall You must now defeat the first three bosses of the dungeon before the door to Margrave Stradama opens on all difficulties. Developers’ note: The first two bosses of the dungeon were frequently being skipped in lower-difficulty dungeons, typically by groups who were trying to earn Renown much faster than intended. To improve players’ Renown earnings, we’ve also added a chance for Renown to be earned by completing layers in Torghast (see hotfix below). Items and Rewards
Teleporter Repair Kits should no longer have a Unique count and will now stack to 50. Repaired Riftkeys will also now stack to 50. Developers’ note: Early in development, Teleporter Repair Kits and Repaired Riftkeys were only available from the vendor. Based on player feedback of not knowing if they were worth purchasing, we decided to have them drop occasionally as well. Now that these items dropped and became out of player’s control, we should have removed the unique cap on the Teleporter Repair Kits then. Also, since you have access to purchasing the Teleporter Repair Kits or Repaired Rift Keys, we are disabling them from going to mail if you loot one with a full inventory so they will no longer fill up your mailbox. The item levels of Conduits sold by the Rated PvP vendor have been corrected. Fixed an issue where the Salvaged Fusion Amplifier was not dropping for Marksmanship and Beastmaster Hunters. Quests
Fixed an issue during “Nal’ragas” that caused internal text to be visible to users of certain nameplate addons. Torghast, Tower of the Damned
Renown is now a possible reward from Torghast completions, with better chances at Renown coming from higher Torghast difficulties.
