Final Fantasy XIV Director on World of Warcraft

Recommended Posts

Final Fantasy XIV Director Naoki Yoshida gave a thoughtful speech about the perceived rivalry between World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy.

Naoki doesn't appreciate people dunking on WoW, according to PC Gamer. "Without World of Warcraft, A Realm Reborn wouldn't exist. World of Warcraft was the game we constantly looked up to," Yoshida said.

He also said that their goal was to recreate a Final Fantasy version of WoW, so claiming one game won over the other is "off the base".

Yoshida also touched upon the subject of subscriber counts, claiming "there's no way" Square Enix could compete with WoW's peak 12 million paid subscribers.

There's a video of Yoshida talking about World of Warcraft. It has been translated by blluist. You must enable subtitles for the translation.

Old Blizzard was a great untouchable company with amazing incredible games with lots of memorable moments.

I love and adore WoW in every way and for me it is the best but in the end competition is the best thing can happen to WoW and Blizzard.

Blizzard needs to come to their senses , learn from their mistakes and be great again

It's commendable, but the wow he talks about was sadly different then BFA and SL WoW.

We didn't had torghast (and island expeditions)  being forced on players for no good reason except time played metrics.

We had reasonable pvp gearing which let you gear in pvp if all you wanted is pvp (till this day, even after recent patch, m+ and  raiding are superior to pure pvp gearing until very late in the season).

And we had fun outdoors with engaging mobs, from classic silithus camps you had to carefully approach to Timeless Isle being filled with treasures and mobs with engaging mechanics. Not the, forgive my bluntness, lazyness of korthia with mobs being forgettable aoe packs which hold zero risk.

Wow still has m+ and fun raiding, and arena at its core is an excellent mode, but so much of its auxiliary systems are degenerated and the only reason i can think to why this is so is greed.

It no longer deserves its crown as the king of mmos. That time has passed, and even if FF isn't my style, they at least seem to be focused on their players having a good time.

Nothing but respect for this man and all the people who work on Final Fantasy. They may never get that big...but they will always be that much better.

This is how MMOs work.

If you expect to have enough things to do in game to spend 12 hours a day playing a video game then the game *has to* have treadmills. If it doesn't then there's "nothing to do".

FF has its own treadmills in gated dailies, roulettes, currency grinds, relic grinds, etc etc.

It's how the genre is designed. Expecting to spend a real world amount of time doing a real world amount of activities in what is not actually a real world is what creates this.

I wonder how many people moving from WoW to FF over the harassment  know that Square had their own internal sexual harassement problem.

Those people don't actually care. They just want attention and to seem like warriors of justice. In a week no one will worry about it anymore and will have moved onto whatever else Twitter is angry about that evening.

How many of their employees committed suicide due to sexual harassment? I know of at least 1 from Blizzard. So get your facts right before you deflect...Frat Boy.

Nobody quits over a sexual harassement, let alone still during investigation. People leave because it's simply the last drop and they are fed up.

We're taking a look at the number of Mythic+ runs completed in the first week of Season 4!
The chart provided by MythicPlusPoster allows us to compare these figures to those from earlier Dragonflight seasons.

In the first week of Season 4, players completed 1,486,891 dungeon runs. This season, Blizzard adjusted the difficulty levels for dungeons, making Heroic and Mythic Dungeons not only viable for gearing up but also comparable to the Mythic 2-10 keys from Season 3, which were included in the Mythic+ totals back then.

Blizzard is set to introduce modifications to addon communications in Patch 10.2.7 for World of Warcraft, with notable implications for role-playing (RP) addons.
The proposed adjustments will implement stricter server-side rate limiting on addon communications, essential for addons like Total RP 3 that support character role-playing and interactions, as highlighted by keyboardturn on Twitter.
Placeholder for tweet 1785049580230574093 The new rate-limiting measures are expected to slow down these addons, significantly increasing the time required to load profiles—from a few seconds to potentially minutes.
The update is designed to decrease server load and prevent misuse of addon communication systems. However, Blizzard has not provided explicit reasons for these changes, leading to speculation and concerns within the community regarding the lack of detailed communication and consideration for RP enthusiasts.
