Was Legion the Pinnacle of World of Warcraft Art?

Recommended Posts

The Tanzanite has done some interesting research, trying to figure out if Legion truly was one of the best WoW expansions when it comes to art assets, and here are the results.

The research was conducted using Wowhead's Item Model Database. The player filtered out how many item assets per slot were added in each expansion since Mists of Pandaria and put all the data in the following table:

Legion so far had the most 3D models out of all compared expansions. Shadowlands, on the other hand, has even less than Warlords of Draenor.

But quantity is not an indicator for quality.

Calling at the Pinniacle implies that it was the best and given that its about art its a very subjective topic

while it is true that SL recycles much of its content in terms of models and art design in general its hard to objectifly judge if its bad its just not much new. And what i wanna say is BFA and SL are critizied for its story alot and the plotholes but legion was not that much differentet the story was pretty much straight forward and tbh. for the most part boring because it was so obvious same goes for SL

The only real advantage Legion has compared to BFA and SL is that almost everyone like the Artefact weapon. Thats the point the legendary system in legion was tbh. even worse then the system in SL because it was pure luck to get the right one. Or you needed to grind very very hard to get all of them in order to get the right one. Only with the final patch we finally got the vendor.

So all i am saying is people make Legion better then it was and SL worse then it is. Both Expac have their flaws and yes blizzard should listen more to the comm but for the most part SL is way better then BFA at least from my perspective.

We dont need to grind azerite armor in order to get the right powers we just need to choose the right covenant and the right legendary which is far less work then we needed in Legion and BFA.

And you dont need to grind anima you dont even really need to upgrade your pact hall its hardly a difference for your powerlevel all you need to grind is reown and thats something they could boost but besides that only thing we need to farm in SL is Torghast and reputation

To be fair to Shadowlands, it is (in theory) only half over.     Of course, it's entirely possible that we'll get shafted a la warlords and 9.2 will be the last patch.

Looks like it's more than a half. So it won't top Legion with its amount of assets. Doesn't seem like there is much room to stretch the story further, another patch with just chasing the Jailer, only for him to escape once more? A little bit too much. 9.2 might indeed be the last major patch.

Pinnacle of what? Recolors? We had same piece of gear from chests to rare mobs to quest to side quests to wq. Recolor of recolor in legions, not to mention BFA and SL don't have class sets which reduces the gear by 1/4

Xereth Mortis will be a setting up patch like 7.2 when we took back Broken Shore. So there's more than 1 major patch

Its interesting data, but ultimately of little meaning.

Legion and MoP were good because of fun content,  fun class design, and good reward systems to support it.

SL and BFA feel bad because of the exact opposite.

Don't know what's there to really set up. The goal is clear to stop the Jailer, I wouldn't count on huge amounts of content, given how everything was delayed and 9.1 was pretty small.

Legion was the bomb. Like no joke.

If you hate on Legion then...

... you're just sad and you make me sad. 😢

Blizzard needs to learn from this. They cheaped out on BFA and SL and look at what they got. Could you imagine if every expansion has the Legion quality. Legion IMO was right up there with TBC and Wrath and if I was being honest probably better than both. Classes were never as good or have been as good as they were in Legion. Shows what happens when Greed destroys a company.

Keep in mind Legion wasn't flawless.    The random legendary system for example made a huge difference in individual performance and ability, tied to "how lucky are you?".      And the story had some real ham-fisted going.     Remember the all important pillars of creation we were chasing at the start of the expansion?    Forgotten for most of it, and then used to "seal off" the legion in random ways during the last raid.   Only for illidan to make them even more silly by opening the giant portal in the sky to Argus.     Also we for some reason forgot to collect these all important things, leading one to be a mcguffin that Azshara uses.

Executive Producer Holly Longdale teased some upcoming experimental PvE-focused content that Blizzard will soon reveal to the community.
It appears that Plunderstorm isn't the only new mode Blizzard plans to add to WoW this year.
Holly Longdale today teased an upcoming PvE-oriented event that will soon be revealed to us. Holly might be talking about the "Timerunning Pandamonium," expected in Patch 10.2.7.

      Greetings Citizens of Azeroth,
It’s been great seeing so many players taking the plunge into Plunderstorm and we’ve loved seeing all of the stories and feedback as this experimental event evolves. It will be exciting to see some of the community content creators going head-to-head as duos during the Plunderstorm Creator Royale on March 30!  This isn’t the end of the things we want to try in World of Warcraft, however, and we have more in store we can’t wait to show you.
Dragonflight Season 4 is in route as testing begins on the PTR and we’ll have more news to share soon™ on the next experiment we have up our sleeves. We hope those of you who are looking for PvE focused content will enjoy what we’re planning, all while we continue to press forward on development of our next expansion for World of Warcraft— The War Within.
We can’t wait to share with you all the many things the team has been hard at work on.
With gratitude and excitement for what we’ll do together next,
      Holly Longdale
