We have a huge milestone in New World's lifespan ahead of us, as Amazon Games have implemented a Public Test Realm for the first time! And there's plenty to test there as well, with the new Void Gauntlet weapon, new missions, mobs, legendary quests, improved main story and a lot more! Read up on how to participate and everything that's waiting you there below:

Blizzard LogoPTR (Source)

Greetings, Adventurers!

Our goal is to provide you with the best possible experience in Aeternum. That means getting feedback and testing early and often— especially with our players that have provided phenomenal feedback and helped us track down a plethora of issues since launch. We have many new and exciting changes planned for the future of New World, and as part of that preparation, we’d like to introduce a new program: the New World Public Test Realm.

PTR

The Public Test Realm (PTR) is a limited-availability server-set that will give players an early look at upcoming features. These preview builds are snapshots of upcoming major updates and are not final versions— you may encounter bugs, crashes, missing text, or other issues. Between our internal testing efforts and your feedback we hope to catch and resolve all serious issues before they reach the live servers. Hundreds of changes have been made and the full release notes will be shared on release day.

To help with the feedback process, all newly created characters on these worlds will have the opportunity to instantly level to select level-ranges outfitted with appropriate gear and items.

By the end of today, everyone with a copy of New World will find the New World Public Test Realm application in their Steam library. Downloading this stand-alone application allows interested players access to check out the latest preview version and provide feedback. PTR servers will officially open tomorrow, November 10, at 12 PM PT (7PM UTC). Servers are limited — at the start, there will be one world available in US East and one world available in Central Europe.

When the test period is complete and the main New World game is updated with the previewed content, all worlds will shut down and be wiped clean. You will still see the New World PTR application in your Steam library, but there will not be active servers until the next time we announce a test.

If you encounter a bug, exploit, or have suggestions to improve a feature or piece of content, we’d love to hear your feedback on our new PTR sub-forum (you can also utilize our in-game feedback tool). We will do our best to address as much of your feedback as possible before the content update makes its way to our live servers. Your participation will help us to deliver awesome content and updates in the future!

During this iteration of the PTR, we would appreciate feedback on the following subjects:

NEW WEAPON

VOID GAUNTLET

Void-Blade-416.jpg

The Void Gauntlet has manifested in Aeternum! Manipulate the powers of the Void to support your allies and debilitate your enemies with this magical DPS/support hybrid. It’s the first weapon to scale on both Intelligence and Focus, making it a great pairing with the Life Staff and other magic weapons. The Annihilation tree focuses on maximizing damage at close-range and revolves around Void Blade, a summoned blade of corrosive void energy. The Decay tree offers ranged healing and debuffs and revolves around Orb of Decay, a dual phase projectile that can debuff enemies and heal allies. With its arsenal of buffs and debuffs, the Void Gauntlet is perfect for group combat and can significantly bolster your allies at the expense of your enemies.

NEW MISSIONS AND MOBS

ENEMY TYPE

Varangian-Knights-416.jpg

New dangers have landed on our southern shores! The Varangian Raiders have sailed down from the north and brutally carved out sections of each territory to establish a base of operations: from war camps on the beaches of First Light and Monarch’s Bluffs to an entire fort they’ve captured in Everfall. Face off against fierce Varangian Hewers, Varangian Scouts, Varangian Knights, and Varangian Archers (level range: 16-20) as you ascertain their true intentions.

ENEMY VARIETY

Reinforcements have arrived! Be on the lookout for new enemies scattered across Aeternum, such as the Withered Swarmancer, Beetle, the Lost Shaman, Pirate Alligator, Ancient Guardian Pyromancer, and enhanced Corrupted Laborers! These additions will bring unique combat encounters to our lower-level open world experience.

Submit your feedback here.

NEW ENEMY QUESTS

What brings these new and ruthless visitors to our shores? Seek out Abigail Rose in the wilds of Western Everfall to get started on one of two new quests available, which deal with the arrival of the Varangians. While their motives for coming south may remain a mystery, one thing seems clear… this is just an expeditionary force – more will come.

Submit your feedback here.

NEW LEGENDARY WEAPON QUESTS

Alongside the release of the Void Gauntlet, we’re also releasing a new Legendary Weapon Quest series. Upon reaching Level 60 and maximum skill level with the Void Gauntlet, players should seek out Antiquarian Abbington in Reekwater to start this epic endeavor. Note that you’ll need to have completed “Magaki’s Strategem” in Shattered Mountain and Legatus Fulvius’s quest series in Reekwater to qualify.

Submit your feedback here.

IMPROVED MAIN STORYLINE QUESTS

Quests in the main storyline have been improved with new task types and quest variants, including wave events, destructible objects, and proximity nodes for tracking. You’ll see some of these as you progress through the story, and more improvements are still on the way.

Submit your feedback here.

PVP FACTION MISSIONS

Our goals is to add more variety for PVP players and create a balanced experience for players highly engaged with territory control. Three brand new PVP Faction Mission types have been added! In addition, almost all PVP missions now reset on death rather than being forfeited. Note that poach missions have been removed for a better directed set of PVP missions.

  • Control Points - These missions send you out to capture control of Forts.

  • Intercept - Defeat enemy faction members and collect their tears!

  • War Camp loot - Retrieve hidden plans at the enemy war camp.

Submit your feedback here.

NEW TRADING POST EXPERIENCE

TRADING POST UPDATE

All Trading Posts have been linked and are now unified! You can buy and sell the same results from any Trading Post in the world. Fees for Buy and Sell Orders are defined by the Settlement that you’re posting from. Additionally, Transaction Taxes on purchases you make are defined by the Settlement in which you are making the purchase. Items listed in Sell Orders that expire return to the Settlement from which they were posted.

Submit your feedback here.

We think this is an exciting opportunity to collaborate more closely with you, and we look forward to working with you all on improving New World. Thank you so much for your participation!

PTR FAQ

How do I access the new PTR?

Everyone with a copy of New World will be automatically granted access to the secondary PTR app. The PTR is not compatible with the live game, so you will need to download a separate client (and have the hard drive space required to support it). From there, we will have special worlds available within supported regions. Not all regions will initially be supported. Access is on a first come, first served basis. There may be queues.

Can I play with or transfer my live characters to the PTR?

Unfortunately, no. These are separate ecosystems, so at this time it is not possible. However, to make testing easier, we will occasionally provide our play-testers with special accommodations such as instant levels, special gear, etc.

Can I provide design feedback regarding what’s included on the PTR?

Preview game builds on the PTR are finished with their core development and are in their final phase of testing and bug fixing. Our main focus at this phase is improving quality, although we will appreciate any feedback you have to share.

I have a problem; how can I contact Customer Support?

Our policies and Code of Conduct cover the PTR, and in-game moderation will continue to be supported. Unfortunately, due to the temporary and potentially unstable nature of the PTR, general Customer Service assistance through both Live Chat and through the Support Website will not be available.

I don’t want to participate in the PTR, can I remove the app from my library?

Don’t worry, no offense taken. Players can manage visibility of the New World Public Test Realm Steam Library entry. Opening up the game options (right-click > Manage) offers the “Hide Game” function.

Thanks for your support and participation! We'll see you in Aeternum.

Learn more about the all-new, community-inspired 3v3 Arena map that's coming to New World: Aeternum.
Prepare yourselves to test out your PvP builds in the upcoming new 3v3 arena that's coming to New World: Aeternum. This new map will be the largest arena yet, and will be showcased in a limited-time preview weekend from June 17 to June 23, just ahead of its full integration into the game in Season 9.
The name of this new map will actually be determined by the community through a voting process, so be sure to visit the official New World Aeternum discord to learn more about how you can cast your vote.
Players are already getting excited to start testing out this new map, due to the following key characteristics it will include:
This map is nearly 50% larger than existing 3v3 arena maps, with more elevation, cover, obstacles, and flanking paths. The map favors ranges players early on, but forces players into melee engagements quickly as they venture deeper within it. There are multiple landmarks scattered throughout the map, including ancient statues, waterfalls, and weathered ruins (which adds to different tactical call-outs you can share with your group members mid-battle). To further support your participation in testing out this new map, there will be Twitch Drops dedicated to the preview weekend (June 17 - June 23).  This reward includes the Hearty Twitch Cache, which will be awarded after watching 6 cumulative hours on Twitch.
As you prepare to test your skills and abilities in this new map, consider checking out some of our many New World Aeternum PvP builds here to help you on the battlefield.
We look forward to seeing you on the battlefield!

Experience New World like never before - reach level 65 in just 2 hours, experiment with powerful artifacts, and dive into a fresh, competitive seasonal world content.
When New World initially launched in September 2021, it was a massive success, quickly climbing to over 900,00 concurrent players on Steam and becoming one of the most popular MMOs out there. Players from around the world were drawn in by the beautiful world of Aeternum, the action-based combat, the satisfying gathering and crafting system, and of course, the large-scale PvP.
However, those numbers quickly fell due to a handful of reasons, including in-game bugs and item duping, server stability issues, long queue times, imbalanced economy, and a few other reasons that left a bad taste in many players' mouths.
Since then, the team behind New World: Aeternum have made some major improvements, introducing some new weapons, a higher max gear score (725), new expeditions, new events, new raids, and much, much, more, making the game enjoyable for many of those that give it another chance.
If you've been away from New World for a while, or are curious about giving it another shot, then the Hardcore seasonal world is your golden opportunity. This fast-paced setting will allow you to hit max level (65) in just two hours (video below on how), allow you to equip any and every artifact you'd like to test it out, and allow you to try out some of the latest and greatest additions added to the game since its initial launch, including the new 10-man Hive of Gorgons raid and the 20-man Sandwurm raid.
Long story short, if you've ever thought "Maybe I should try New World again", this is your sign. The hardcore seasonal world is the perfect opportunity to take a closer look at what's changed since the initial launch of the game, without having to spend endless hours getting to the endgame content.
Please note: This seasonal world is a temporary world and will be deleted on July 8, 2025. However, it allows you to truly get a taste of what's new in the game, without requiring the massive grind.
If you enjoy what you see when you check it out, then you can start the official grind and get back to the Aeternum you once loved!

Discover everything you need to know about Hardcore New World, including faster leveling, unlimited artifacts, and exclusive rewards, all starting on June 3, 2025.
It's official - New World's hardcore seasonal world will begin on June 3, 2025, and last until July 8, 2025, giving players plenty of time to max out a character and challenge some of the most difficult raids within the game for exclusive rewards. This marks the second seasonal world for New World: Aeternum, where players will be able to explore Aeternum and play the game with a major twist - this time being hardcore.
If your character dies during this game mode, they will be forever labeled as "Fallen", limiting the number of exclusive rewards you can unlock with that specific character (more details below). Additionally, players will come across other major twists while playing in this seasonal world, including the removal of the main story quest (MSQ), and replacing it with a much shorter questline that allows you to hit max level after approximately 6 hours, as well as allowing players to use as many artifacts as possible, greatly increasing the overall power most players are used to.
All major changes to this new seasonal world can be found below:
No Main Questline - We’ve built a new, expedited questline to follow. This questline will give you all the experience needed for your character to reach maximum level in approximately 6 hours. It will also introduce you to the new mechanic we’re using for progressing your character on this server: Azerite Tailings. Azerite Tailings - Azerite Tailings are an item that can be dropped from multiple different locations in the world and can be used to craft new types of inventory caches for yourself. These caches will be much faster to use for gearing up your character on this server than standard loot drops. These caches can provide everything you need for your characters (such as consumables, gear, and even materials for selecting perks on artifacts.) Artifacts Unlimited - On this server, you are able to equip as many artifacts as you would like. We don’t know exactly how powerful these can become, but we want to allow you to experiment in some new ways and try some new gameplay combinations that even we haven’t seen before. War has its own unique status effect. This status effect will provide a higher potential stacking on attributes after death (as well as a damage bonus), but it also reduces your armor and absorptions while active (this is intended to help balance out some of the potential defensive power artifacts can provide). Since this is a time-limited server, territory control is not the primary focus, so we wanted to give people an opportunity to experience the mode in a different way. Honestly, we’re hoping you will all go out into the field and bonk each other over the head with foam bats and cardboard tubes for a weekend. Death Status Effects - A new status effect will be present on your character when created on this server for tracking your Unfallen or Fallen state. This is our attempt at a different kind of hardcore experience. Characters who have not died will be considered ‘Unfallen’ and characters who have died will be considered ‘Fallen.' Instead of a traditional hardcore model, where your character is simply deleted on death, this status effect will stack up, granting 25 bonus attributes per stack. However, some challenges can only be completed in an Unfallen state. Group up with others to tackle these objectives and remain Unfallen, but don’t be afraid to keep going if you do Fall, you’ll be getting stronger and stronger. Earnable Rewards - You will be able to earn new rewards for your character by completing challenges in the Season Journey on this server. These new earnable rewards are Raw Orichalcite Stone, which allows you to craft any artifact you want (out of all the artifacts you do not currently own), and Runewood Resin, which allows you to craft any T3 trophy you want. There will also be new cosmetics and titles to earn throughout this experience. These rewards will not be claimable on your seasonal character and must be claimed on one of your primary characters. Important extra note about the Hardcore server - As the focus of this server is push the limit of characters to the max, including using full sets of artifacts in endgame content such as the Gorgon raid, players will be required to have the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion to participate.
Additional information (along with tips to help you along the way) can be found within the video below.
We wish you luck on your future hardcore adventures throughout Aeternum!

Take a closer look at some of the recent changes made to the leadership team for New World: Aeternum, and how this may impact the future of the game.
In the recent "Forged in Aeternum" video posted by New World: Aeternum, we were able to get a handful of our questions answered and also get a major update on the leadership team at New World: Aeternum.
Just 26 seconds into the video the question "Where is Scot Lane" was asked, which is a bit surprising to see the team be so upfront about it, but also appreciative as they were very transparent on the team. Scot Lane was previously the Game Director for New World: Aeternum, and when answering this question, the team shared that he is no longer in this role and has moved on to another project with Amazon Game Studios (likely the upcoming LOTR Online game they are working on, but not yet confirmed).
In his place was announced Katy Kaszynski, who has been highlighted in many previous developer update videos in the past and is a familiar face to the New World community. There were two additional members of the leadership team that were also highlighted, including Dan Henuber, Creative Director, and Joel Clift, Product Owner of Seasons and Systems.
Take a closer look at the full Q&A session below.
This video sheds more light on what to expect with future seasons of New World: Aeternum, and what we can expect to see over the next few months. We'll see you in Aeternum!

Expeditions threats are breaking free and starting to appear in the open world of Aeternum. With Expeditions Unleashed, players will come across some of the most powerful expedition bosses appearing in the open world. But there's a twist. These bosses are insanely buffed, and will require a large group of players to take down!

By defeating these bosses, you will have the chance to pick up some amazing rewards. Full details can be found below.
