Anduin Wrynn Sepulcher of the First Ones Raid Defeat Cinematic

Recommended Posts

The currently final boss of the Sepulcher of the First ones, as we wait for next week's final three to unlock, is falling soon so we get to see the brand new cinematic! Anduin has been released from the Jailer's domination magic and the way to the final bosses of the Sepuclher is opened (or rather will be next week, it takes a while to learn all the intricacies of domination and how to avoid it).

Let's take a look at the cinematic Blizzard just released:

No sarcasm here. Blizzard... thank you.

One good thing is knowing when to end a character's story, and I remember them promising Arthas' story was over and he is not coming back, all the way back in Cata. And I felt disheartened by SL, when signs of his reappearance started to roam around, and even more so given current story developments.

But this, while not precisely not bringing him into the picture at all, this is good. His story is still over, he did nothing in SL, and now he is finally gone for good. RIP Arthas, it's been a bash.

I hope so, but I also thought Uther's, Vashj's, Draka's, Kael's, Alexandros' etc. stories were over yet here they are. They have many ways to bring characters back, either through afterlife or timetravel/alternate universe. So if it's a popular character, there is always a chance, although I prefer it otherwise. Jailer didn't even kill anyone important, they seem reluctant to kill their characters for good. There is always Illidan in the "freezer", in case they need someone to increase people's interest.

At least Arthas can now be deposited for some anima in covenant sanctum.

Does anyone know the music that starts when Varian appears?

it is a rearrangement of Anduin's theme from Legion

I have played WoW since vanilla launch and although not as heavily as I have gotten older, every expansion since. Most of us who started with vanilla are now in our mid 30s and 40s, and those early years of WoW have become a core part of our memories of youth. Because the character of Arthas is so closely linked to these memories, I have complex feelings about his permanent removal from the ongoing lore. In some ways, I might even say that I associate his annihilation, in part, with the death of my childhood. I know the WoW team was trying to provide a high impact narrative development amidst the ongoing business challenges they have inflicted upon themselves, but my initial reaction to this course of action is not positive. I feel less hopeful for the future narrative and less encouraged to return to the game than I ever have before.

I hope Blizzard can learn (or re-learn) that the most successful stories throughout human history are those built upon hope for tomorrow. The majority of humanity has the story of hopeless misery told to them on a daily basis through their experience; we don't need it fabricated again in games.

On one hand, I like how they utilized Saurfang and Varian in the cinematic. On the other, I'll just leave this here 😄

Didn't Blizzard at some point say at the start of the expansion that we weren't going to see Arthas right away because they wanted to do him right?      Fading away as a wisp of soul left in Anduin's sword seems...underwhelming.

I'm fine with killing Arthas, and I knew his character since RTS days. Death can be good for the story if it's written well. This one isn't, but now they are reluctant to kill any of their main characters, especially if they are on the good side. Like in both BfA and SL no one important (besides Saurfang, if we count him) has died. Character's death doesn't feel meaningful, if they can be brought back in some way. Sort of like Uther's death doesn't have much meaning now, since he can carry on as one of Kyrian.

Well, that sucked. Sylvanas gets to be redeemed and hang around like a terrible fart that won't go away, and Arthas whose story was consistent and motivation made sense just evaporates unseen. You'd think they'd at least show him and have him say something about at last being at peace instead of making everything about Sylvanas again.

Honestly because I've never seen or heard of Anduin's Mom, I instead just got the vibe of his interracial two Dads. Which is totally cool. But it was like each Dad placing a hand on his son. 🥰

The only thing that bugs me is that only Sylvanas had her arc with Arthas closed. Jaina is another character that has a close link with Arthas, they used to be lovers, they used to be engaged, they almost get married before Arthas calling it off to let Jaina focus on her study with Antinodas. Even in Wrath, she didn't recive a nice closure with Arthas, because discovering that your former lover, who turned evil, who didn't recognize you and tried to kill, still carries the medallion you gave him is definitly not closure.
And yet, Blizzard decided to focus the whole cinematic on Sylvanas.
I swear to god, Jaina is the most unlucky character in the world.

If only there was a logical and canon-established explanation why Tiffin didn't show up that is not rooted in SJW crap...

...right?

I never knew she existed until your post, so I was looking it up. It looks like she died from stonemason riots, and that the Wrynns visited her memorial around Cataclysm. I assume they didn't use her ghost then since many players wouldn't understand who it was (including horde players such as myself).

Simpler than that.

Varian's soul was obliterated at the Broken Shore, so that can hardly actually be him (unless one of the half-dozen fan theories will be canonized). These are images of people that Anduin drew inspiration from, especially since lasting peace on Azeroth is his life's work, and these two are powerful figures representing it.

He wouldn't see Queen Tiffin there for the sole reason of him not even remembering her, let alone leaving him with some powerful memory to cling onto.

This never stopped them before (undead Calia Menethil out of nowhere, only made sense to people who read the book), so it wouldn't surprise me if they included character known only to a few, briefly featured in a comic book. Another good example was Anveena in Sunwell. Regardless, both factions are experiencing mostly the same content. Their stories can't be treated separately anyway, considering how in both factions there are former members of the other.

Exactly, she died when he was little kid, so he wouldn't remember her anyway. I hope Varian stays dead and they won't find a way to bring him back (or some alternate counterpart). Death should have a meaning, although in case of several characters it already doesn't.

Last week we made the big switch to focus on Mythic logs and today we're going to be taking a look at the tank and healer situation in the maximum difficulty for the Sepulcher, as well as our usual DPS roundup.
      Mythic
      95th Percentile
Destruction moves even further ahead in Mythic this week, as we see some additional movement in the top 3, with Frost DK dropping 2 spots to Demonology and Survival. There's actually been a lot of 2-spot moves this week, starting with Windwalker's rise to 6th, moving past Elemental and Retribution, who are having a bad week as Unholy also slapped them both down to move into 8th, but at least they stay in the top 10 (and swap places). Havoc remains firm at No.10, with Frost taking the Mage crown and finishing the week in 11th. The bottom remains much the same, with only Assassination managing to crawl out of there, rising 5 spots!

95th percentile Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
A very firm top 5 in the generalist bracket as we see no changes from  last week, but then a bit of a reverse from the high percentiles as Unholy drops 1 spot to Marksmanship. Havoc is just as stable here, but a little bit higher up, with Windwalker and Retribution closing out the top 10.

All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Tank DPS and Healer HPS
While tank DPS isn't exactly the most crucial stat there is, we at least have something to compare them with here, so let's take a look. Guardian has stepped it up a notch as they take the crown, but both Paladins and Warriors are very close, with DKs not too far behind either.
All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
Healers are very stable, as the Mythic rankings look identical to the Heroic ones from a few weeks ago, with Druids and Monks dominating.

All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Heroic
Frost DKs are back at No.2 on Heroic, as Demonology rules over all and Destruction remains in the middle of the pack. Havoc is rising this week and has positioned it self at No.4, knocking Shadow down one, as Balance hops 1 up into 6th. Subtletly has a big drop this week, as it moves all the way down to 14th from its previous top 10 spot.

All percentiles Heroic data by Warcraft Logs.

As always, if you want even more info on a spec, you can check out our class guides here, for a DPS tier list you can go here, or for even more data, head on over to Warcraft Logs. You can also check out our Sepulcher raid guides.

Blizzard has changed the eye color of Dark Ranger Captain Delaryn Summermoon in Patch 9.2.5. Delaryn was raised by Sylvanas during the Battle for Darkshore. In this post, we speculate about the eye change in more detail.
Delaryn Summermoon was the captain of the Darnassian City Guard and a commander of the night elven forces who fought during the War of Thorns. She was raised into undeath as a dark ranger of the Forsaken during the Battle for Darkshore. She along with other undead night elves sought Calia Menethil to help them.
      Source: Wowpedia
Delaryn's eyes currently have a red/blueish Death Knight glow on live servers and they gave her proper red eyes in Patch 9.2.5. The customization option exists in the game files for a while now and isn't exactly new. Below you can see her updated eyes in mode detail. Thanks to simaia and MrGM for spotting the change.
Placeholder for tweet 1528735870441771011 What could the new eye color mean? For one, we have rumors circulating about a potential Dragonflight pre-order Allied Race. We also know that something's brewing in Lordaeron with updates to Brill and Calia Menethil. Do you think Calia might end up leading the fallen Night Elves that have been raised by Sylvanas (dark rangers) or could this be a Hunter customization option like the Night Warrior? Let us know down in the comments!
Keep in mind that nothing has been confirmed by Blizzard yet and we'll need to wait until the update goes live.

Grimrail Depot will be added to the Mythic+ pool of dungeons in Shadowlands Season 4. Here's a sample +10 run of the Warlords of Draenor dungeon from the Patch 9.2.5 PTR.
The sample run includes testing of the new Season 4 Affix called Shrouded. Thanks to MrGM for the video.
Blizzard added a new accessibility option for players that hides moving environment pieces in Maw of Souls and Grimrail Depot. You can buy the elixir from an NPC at the beginning of both dungeons.

Heartbond Lupine received a new flying animation in Patch 9.2.5. In this post, we compare the old and new animations in more detail.
Heartbond Lupine is a mount added in Patch 9.2 that comes from Protoform Synthesis. Its current flying animation makes it look as if the mount was swimming in the air.

In Patch 9.2.5 the flying run animation has been updated as you can see below. The mount no longer swims but walks in the air.

Which animation do you prefer? Let us know in the comments!
