Blizzard Addresses Race to World First and Untested Bosses

In a rare commentary on the Race to World First (aside from congratulating winners and competitors), Blizzard have posted about the upcoming Sepulcher of the First ones race, how this one will be different due to the untested bosses, potentially removing even dungeon journal entries for bosses like these in the future, and more.

Hey, remember this thread? We do! A new raid is an effort that spans months of work for us, so we often capture feedback like this earlier in the process, and then later we can see how some of your feedback had a positive impact.

I think it goes without saying, but I’ll say anyway that the Race for World First is a super exciting time for our team as well. When we were still in the office pre-pandemic, we had a big TV on the wall where we’d have streams going so we could watch and share in the fun (and occasionally panic when something weird happened). These days we watch on a group call, but the excitement is just as real and we’re very much looking forward to this next race.

To address the main point here (saving more surprises for race day), I’ll start by stating the obvious: there are upsides to testing things on the PTR and good historical reasons for doing so. We want players to have the best experience possible, and PTR testing allows us to cast a wider net for both bugs and feedback. That being said, the points brought up here are also valid - it really is cool to have surprises after the race begins, and this is a big reason why we’ve traditionally avoided testing the Mythic version of the final boss.

In light of player feedback and given the structure of Sepulcher, we saw an opportunity to try an experiment and take this concept a bit further by skipping PTR tests for the final 3 bosses entirely. Doing this isn’t without risk, but we want to see how it plays out. It’s genuinely cool that nobody will have fought these 3 bosses before tomorrow, and that even with the dungeon journal they don’t quite know what to expect.

The honest answer is that for as much work as that would entail, the dungeon journal doesn’t really give away the most important details of a fight. It might tell you that Painsmith has Spikes and that Spikes will kill you, but it won’t tell you what the patterns are, how often they come, or how to deal with them. Nobody knew there was a gapless row of Spikes until guilds actually got in there.

Of course, we’re always open to feedback on the dungeon journal and ways it could be better, and I don’t want to close the door on further changes to how we do things in the future.

We’re looking forward to an exciting race and we wish the best of luck to all competitors. It’s sure to be full of memorable moments and we’ll doubtless learn things that will help us make better raids in the future. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts!

Curious as how it will turn out, always loved these 2 weeks of RWF and hey! At least they aknowledged it and addressed it in advance.

Russian servers are still running and Russian players are still not informed about the war in Ukraine. Blizzard, when are you finally going to show some composure!

Not everyone who plays on Russian dominant servers lives in Russia, cutting off new purchases (including subscription renewals) originating from Russia lets them act without punishing Russian speaking players living outside Russia, who may not even be Russian citizens.

Honestly I'd think it has more to do with the currency being worthless than punishing anyone. Sure they might say otherwise but the actual financial concern would probably be the former.

Problem I see here is that no testing makes it much more likely that the final boss will fall over and die to a strategy Blizzard didn't foresee which trivilizes the encounter.   Then Blizzard fixes it and other guilds are stuck for days.   Dilutes the excitement/victory a lot.     Same if there are major bugs, or if Blizzard hard-changes encounters during progression for guilds.

This won't inform them, it will just hurt citizens in a totalitarian regime. Sometimes thats inevitable, but this seems pointlessly petty.

Its a decent experiment. Sometimes it will work out, sometimes not, but i think its worth the shot at least on occasion.

No-one is saying punish ordinary Russians, although they will be the ones suffering from sanctions. What's inevitable is that the Russians are not being informed about what's really happening in Ukraine , so anything Blizz does to even mention the war is a good thing.

      We have another sign of just how close we are to 9.2.5 launching, as Martin Benjamins, a well known dataminer and Community Council member, has spotted that the patch has moved to the production hardware and software side of the PTR! With yesterday's build being labeled as a release candidate and the fact that the move to this side of the PTR usually marks 1 week before the actual launch, could we be seeing the patch as soon as next week?
       
      The big argument against this is we still haven't heard any official announcements from Blizzard on the release date, but usually with patches they do so with the Season ending soon posts, and considering Season 3 is NOT ending when patch 9.2.5 launches, this might be less of an issue. Official patch date announcements tend to come right around the first release candidate appearing so let's see if we hear anything official soon, but until then, there's a solid likelihood of 9.2.5 arriving a lot sooner than expected!

      Fishbones06 is back with more glyph options, this time some very angry and very polearm-y Warriors, and we paired that with one of their earlier works with blacksmith-themed elemental glyphs as well!
      Starting with the Warriors, we have some Alliance/Horde themed ones, with a banner linked to Rallying Cry and polearm + shield combo (which is a bit more of a transmog) on the Alliance side, and all the anger linked to Dragon Roar for Horde. (The image is animated, just click on it if it doesn't auto-start.)
      Then there's an older concept, with some blacksmith-themed Shaman elementals:

      Exactly, I started making them because if you go to any wow forum, the community has list and list of ideas for Glyphs, but no visual representation.

      I agree, the artist truly are the heroes. I'm just playing and changing the assets they've provided. On classes I dont play much, I rely on class forums on what they would want to see. My goal for this, is to just bring visual representation to these ideas and to push blizzard into consider them and to see the excitement from the community for something like this.

      Content creator MGM found out during Patch 9.2.5 testing that cross-faction queue works for Timewalking raids, which is a neat feature!
      Cross-faction grouping comes with a few limitations; you must be Battle.net Friends with the person you're inviting or you both need to be members of the same cross-faction community. So far, we thought the feature was limited to Mythic+, raids, and Legacy raids.
      It turns out you can queue up for Timewalking raids cross-faction as well. You can learn more about cross-faction play in our overview.

      We're looking at some interesting Genn Greymane audio files from Patch 9.2.5. This post contains spoilers.
      The audio files play during the "Eyes of the Wolf" quest when Greymane sends you to meet Calia Menethil in Brill and spy on the Forsaken as they're gathering in Tirisfal Glades for an unknown purpose.

      I wouldn't be surprised if he secretly planned a coup. After all, it was Sylvanas who killed his son Liam Greymane.
      Most of the Patch 9.2.5 content remains encrypted, so we don't know exactly what will transpire until the patch hits live servers.

      Blizzard has updated some abilities cast by Nathrezim Infiltrators in the first Release Candidate of Patch 9.2.5.
      Introduction to the Season 4 Affix
      The Season 4 affix is called Shrouded and causes groups of mobs to hide a dreadlord that gives you stackable buffs upon death.
      Shrouded - Nathrezim infiltrators have disguised themselves among enemies throughout the dungeon. Cartel Ta will reward you handsomely for assisting in their capture. How Does the Season 4 Affix Work?
      At the beginning of each Mythic+ Dungeon, there is a bounty hunter NPC who offers you Critical Strike/Haste/Mastery/Versatility buffs for each dreadlords you help capture, stacking up to 20 times.
      Bounty: Critical Strike - Critical Strike increased by 2% for each dreadlord captured. This effect stacks. Bounty: Haste - Haste increased by 2% for each dreadlord captured. This effect stacks. Bounty: Mastery - Mastery increased by 2% for each dreadlord captured. This effect stacks. Bounty: Versatility - Versatility increased by 2% for each dreadlord captured. This effect stacks. After you make your choice, you will be granted a 2% buff to the secondary stat of your choice.
      Nathrezim Infiltrators
      Throughout the dungeons, some NPCs will have a purple aura and the Disguised debuff. These will transform into Nathrezim Infiltrators when you enter combat. Nathrezim Infiltrators replace regular trash mobs in dungeons, so this might directly affect Mythic routes.
      Nathrezim Infiltrators cannot be stunned or death-gripped. The spells are not interruptible.

      When the dreadlord is captured you will receive another +2% secondary stat increase (on top of what you had at the beginning, as this buff stacks up to 20. Shortly after the dreadlord is captured, you'll receive another buff which restores 6% health and mana every second for 3 seconds.
      Restoration - Restoring 6% health and mana every 1 sec. What Abilities do Nathrezim Infiltrators Use?
      Nathrezim Infiltrators will use 3 abilities. The first one is a frontal cone which reduces healing received for a short duration, the second one heals the dreadlord for a portion of the damage inflicted and the third one puts the player into a statis.
      Blizzard adjusted two abilities used by Nathrezim Infiltrators in the Patch 9.2.5 Release Candidate this week. We highlighted the changes below.
      Vampiric Claws - Strikes the target inflicting 50 45 Shadow damage and healing for [ 10,000% of E1 ]% of the damage dealt. (20 yd range, 3 sec cooldown, 1.5 sec cast)
      Carrion Swarm - Inflicts 35 38 Shadow damage to enemies in front of the dreadlord and reduces healing received by 25% 50% for 10 sec. (100 yd range, 3 sec cooldown, 2.5 sec cast)
      Nightmare Cloud - Creates a wandering Nightmare Cloud for until cancelled. Coming into contact with a Nightmare Cloud afflicts players with [email protected] (3 sec cooldown, 2 sec cast)
