10.0 Expansion Name Possibly Leaked on Official WoW Site

Recommended Posts

Update: we now seemingly also have the logo and art for this leaked expansion, with some possible evidence backing up its credibility! You can check it out here.

When it comes to leaks, this one is far and above all the ones we've covered already, as it comes directly from the official World of Warcraft website's source code! While nothing is sure yet, the expansion name is a pretty big hint of its legitimacy, but it did appear relatively close to April Fools (but wasn't used in any of the April Fools content), so we still can't be certain if it's real or not.

As first spotted in the MMO Champion 10.0 speculation thread, the source code for the site holds the "Dragonflight" name of the next expansion, with references to "Base", "Heroic", and "Epic" editions, as Deventh showed:

fc39fde2cff1e7bcaeea4d3b7020cc19.png

There is also the fact that an SSL certificate for dragonflight.blizzard.com was generated on March 29th, setting up the expansion's official page, as reported by joey102 in the Wowhead comments section.

The name itself is very much on-topic for the many other leaks, as many versions of the Dragon Isles being the 10.0 content have been "leaked" everywhere, and most players are expecting that to indeed be the next WoW expansion. This is a bit of a strange one in terms of possibly purpuseful leaks, and if it's an actual error it's a pretty big one - but since we don't yet know if it's real or not we'll just have to wait for April 19th for the official reveal!

So it could be Dragon Isles or at least something themed around dragons. This title doesn't sound creative and we already had a lot of dragon stuff in this game. Almost every expansion there was something related to them. Seems like this could be another filler expansion, so the story with the Void Lords will be on hold probably until another one. Another of these stories where we defeat some big bad, but then we learn that again even bigger threat is coming?

It feels like they kinda wrote themselves into a corner with the dragons.    Deciding at the last minute to depower them all (*in a vague and unspecified way) at the end of cataclysm doesn't leave much room.     Their numbers have been decimated (several times!).    Black is nearly gone, green lost ysera and had a number corrupted, Alexstraza's lost a lot in prior wars and the blue had their whole civil war.      It doesn't feel like there's much left to do with them.

what was "vague and unspecified" about them putting all the power they had into the Dragon Soul?

"they have lost their titan-given power, which they sacrificed in order to empower the Dragon Soul"

I thought they’d taken a back seat since cata?

Agree to disagree - in a medieval-style fantasy world there is always more to do with dragons. In the past few expansions they've been somewhat neglected - we've had more dragon mounts than actual dragon lore in the game. Besides, dragons are always more forgiving from a writing perspective as they have less mortal properties - thus even if Blizzard will commit their usual logic errors in storytelling it's easier to just say "yeah, but these are dragons, that explains why they can do that".

Because they haven't totally lost their Titan given powers, at least when Blizzard wants them to have it.    Chromie and the time dragons are still doing time hijinks.    Ysera seemed pretty damn powerful both as an ally and as an opponent in Legion.     Kalecgos still is at least archmage level enough to be on the Dalaran council, etc etc.    IE they still seem to have their unique flavors of power and whatnot.

Was reading that and remembering it took 4 Aspects, Thrall acting as a quazi-Nelthation and absolute unity to beat the latter's "Chromatus Opus", so to say.

And that thing is still not really dead stuck in a cage somewhere on Azeroth... whoops.

In almost every expansion there were some dragon characters, be it friendly or hostile. So they never went away, Cata was when they were in the center, but since then we've had some smaller and bigger stories with them.

Not all of their power, they still have some and are quite formidable. Also that Titan power was in older lore, in newer lore they weren't empowered by Titans but by their Titan-forged servants who acquired some parts of their powers when Titans were "killed" (they were sort of resurrected in Legion) by Sargeras.

a lot of that is because of the 2 different lore's in game lore and book/story lore. with in game lore they can still do a lot but within book/story lore the dragons have next to no powers and are now mortal. it really dose not help that Blizz keeps two kinds of lore going at the same time while also trying to make them one lore

Executive Producer Holly Longdale teased some upcoming experimental PvE-focused content that Blizzard will soon reveal to the community.
It appears that Plunderstorm isn't the only new mode Blizzard plans to add to WoW this year.
Holly Longdale today teased an upcoming PvE-oriented event that will soon be revealed to us. Holly might be talking about the "Timerunning Pandamonium," expected in Patch 10.2.7.
      (Source)
      Greetings Citizens of Azeroth,
It’s been great seeing so many players taking the plunge into Plunderstorm and we’ve loved seeing all of the stories and feedback as this experimental event evolves. It will be exciting to see some of the community content creators going head-to-head as duos during the Plunderstorm Creator Royale on March 30!  This isn’t the end of the things we want to try in World of Warcraft, however, and we have more in store we can’t wait to show you.
Dragonflight Season 4 is in route as testing begins on the PTR and we’ll have more news to share soon™ on the next experiment we have up our sleeves. We hope those of you who are looking for PvE focused content will enjoy what we’re planning, all while we continue to press forward on development of our next expansion for World of Warcraft— The War Within.
We can’t wait to share with you all the many things the team has been hard at work on.
With gratitude and excitement for what we’ll do together next,
      Holly Longdale
