Huge Exploit Allows All Legendaries to Be Equipped

Recommended Posts

It seems some players are getting a little greedy with their legendaries, as wearing only two wasn't quite enough for them. An old bug from the PTR has returned with a vengeance, and there are players actually using more than 2 legendaries on live servers. A lot more.

We will not be going into how exactly this is done, as it is a very large exploit, and we will also be removing the character names on those seen using it, since there could be API bugs and similar involved. But, we have confirmed this bug has been present on live servers for a while and the method very much works, it's just that very few players dared to use such an obviously actionable exploit, especially not during an actual boss fight/dungeon run. At least, not that anyone has managed to notice... until now.

Without going into too much detail, the bug is related to the Unity legendary and allows players to equip legendaries in all available slots, but without their special effects, "only" receiving all the stats and item level. And, it should go without saying, if you do find out how to do this and try it in-game, you will almost certainly be banned.

Apologies to the original twitter posters that found and added the full images, but we wanted to keep the player names out of it.

Hopefully we can get some attention from Blizzard on this and some proper punishment to those that used the method, as exploits can't get too much bigger than this than this.

Just to clarify the removal of the player names: it's not really about the specific players that were supposedly caught doing this, but more about getting some awareness out so Blizzard can fix the bug and punish those using it (and also on the off-chance there was some kind of error with those found using it in the screenshots). It's pretty easy to find all the original sources on this if you really want to know the names and I want to again apologize to the reddit and twitter posters that found this first, but I just did not want to have links to threads where the exploit is being explained or where the names were shown in the article. We had a separate source explaining and proving the actual exploits worked.

Update: Blizzard have sped up the upcoming Retribution Paladin PvP nerfs due to overwhelming community feedback and the changes for the spec are coming tonight, March 24th, instead!
      Retribution PvP Nerfs (Source)
Update: Due to overwhelming feedback, the Retribution Paladin changes in the above notes are going to be pushed live tonight. Blizzard just announced another round of class tuning for the new patch, with all nerfs coming to Frost DKs, BM Hunters, Warlocks and PvP Retribution Paladins.
      Tuning (Source)
n patch 10.0.7, we made changes to several classes to address issues we saw with itemization or talent trees. Game data since the patch went live has shown us that certain specs are overperforming, so with scheduled weekly maintenance on March 29, we’ll make the changes below.
      CLASSES
      DEATH KNIGHT
Frost All ability damage reduced by 3%. HUNTER
Beast Mastery Kill Command damage reduced by 10%. Marksmanship All ability and pet damage reduced by 4%. Survival Mongoose Bite damage reduced by 10%. This does not affect PvP Combat. WARLOCK
Developers’ notes: We’re modifying the output of Grimoire of Sacrifice to bring it in line with the output of Warlock demons. At the end of the day Warlock is a pet-centric class and while we want there to be an option to opt-out of your pet, we don’t want it to always be the clear answer. Wrathful Minion now increases the damage of Grimoire of Sacrifice by 10% (was 15%). Demonic Inspiration now increases the damage of Grimoire of Sacrifice by 10% (was 15%). Grimoire of Sacrifice damage reduced by 15%. Affliction Developers’ notes: With the removal of less impactful talents in both their class and specialization trees, Affliction received a lot of additional damage options that have increased their damage beyond what was intended. We’re making these adjustments to bring them in line with other damage dealers. Damage done by spells and abilities reduced by 2%. Darkglare damage reduced by 20%. Demonology Developers’ notes: We’re targeting Demonology’s multi-target profile with these adjustments to bring them closer to other damage dealers. We will continue to watch both single-target and multi-target performance, along with the output of new talents and adjustments delivered in 10.0.7, and make further adjustments down the road if needed. Demonic Strength now increases the damage of Felstorm by 300% (was 400%). Dreadbite damage reduced by 10%. PLAYER VERSUS PLAYER
      PALADIN
Crusader’s Reprieve healing reduced by 50% in PvP combat. Protection Judgment of Light healing reduced by 35% for Protection Paladins in PvP Combat. Retribution Developers’ notes: Retribution Paladins have been heavily overperforming in PvP with their recent 10.0.7 changes. We’re primarily targeting their burst damage, passive survivability, and PvP talents that we feel are contributing too much overall damage. Judgment of Light healing reduced by 35% for Retribution Paladins in PvP combat. Inquisitor’s Ire effectiveness reduced by 40% in PvP combat. Fading Light effectiveness reduced by 75% for Retribution Paladins in PvP combat. Justicar’s Vengeance now deals 15% additional damage to stunned targets in PvP combat. Justicar’s Vengeance healing reduced by 50% in PvP combat. Blessing of Dawn effectiveness reduced by 25% for Retribution Paladins in PvP combat. Divine Arbiter direct damage reduced by 25% in PvP combat. Vanguard of Justice effectiveness reduced by 25% in PvP combat. Empyrean Legacy increases the damage of Divine Storm by 15% in PvP combat (was 25%). Luminescence (PvP Talent) now increases damage and healing by 2% (was 4%). Lawbringer (PvP Talent) now deals 2% of maximum health (was 4%). Fixed an issue that caused Avenging Wrath’s 75% PvP multiplier to not function for Retribution Paladins.

The week's final hotfixes bring improvements to Retribution, Warlocks, the Forbidden Reach and quests.
      March 24 (Source)
      Classes
Paladin Retribution Fixed an issue causing Retribution Aura to sometimes fail to trigger. Warlock Fixed an issue where Demonic Inspiration would still be applied after logging out and resummoning your demon. Demonology Fixed an issue where non-primary pets would benefit from Demonic Inspiration. Forbidden Reach
Developers’ note: In an effort to be clear about its availability, an existing once-per-day bonus amount of Elemental Overflow per rare elite in the Forbidden Reach has been changed to be awarded from the creature’s respective daily Bonus Objective quest. This should result in roughly the same amount of Elemental Overflow awarded per first-time kill, but now it should be better communicated how often this bonus amount is offered. The Morqut Hearth Totem now has 5 charges before the item is fully consumed. Quests
Fixed an issue where the quest “Primordial Answers” was unintentionally sharable. Developers’ note: The quest “Primordial Answers” was never meant to be sharable and is now marked as such. Unfortunately, if you picked up the quest via a share, Earthcaller Yevva will not be in your vault and the quest cannot be completed with her. You can gain the quest again and complete it in a future vault when she appears for you.

Blizzard added 2 pieces of Unique Loot from Aberrus in the latest 10.1 PTR build. A cloak that steals stats from nearby allies and a polearm that unleashes waves of ancient lava.
Voice of the Silent Star (Back) drops from the final boss of the raid and comes with the following Old God-themed effect:
The Silent Star - Whenever nearby allies take damage, the Voice has a chance to beckon you. Upon hearing its call 10 times you fully submit to its influence, stealing -139 of the 4 nearest allies' lowest secondary stat, and giving you the stolen amount plus 1,391 to your highest secondary stat for 8 sec. (Approximately 5 procs per minute)
The second item is a polearm (Djaruun, Pillar of the Elder Flame) with an interesting On-Use effect:
[PH] Elder Cantrip Polearm - Ignite the Elder Flame to siphon the heat from nearby enemies, dealing 3,900 Fire damage to them and causing your melee abilities to unleash waves of ancient lava, dealing 11,702 Fire damage split between all enemies struck for [10 seconds]. (Instant, 2.5 min cooldown)

Aberrus received a new loading screen in the latest Patch 10.1 build on the PTR.
The latest PTR update adds the Aberrus raid loading screen that you will see whenever you enter the raid in Embers of Neltharion.

We've heard rumors of a third Evoker spec, as hinted by a placeholder quest on the 10.1 PTR, and the latest build seems to add more potential spells and 36 entries in the database table of Empowered Evoker spells.
The following spell has been updated in 10.1 Build 48661 with a cooldown and initially looked like an NPC spell. Notice the "Emerald" prefix, typical for Green Evoker spells.
Emerald Infusion - Infuse yourself with Emerald Power, healing yourself for 20% and 10% of your maximum health over 10 sec. (Instant, 45-sec cooldown) The second and third spells appear to be intended for NPCs, as both are seemingly overpowered and without cooldown. "Azure" is also typical for Blue Evoker spells...
Iron Roots - Raising their shield the dracthyr protects their allies within 10 yards, reducing their damage received by 90%. Azure Prowess - Empowers an ally, increasing their damage done by 25%. (1.5-sec cast, 30 yd range) However, the real find, as Reddit user scottishwanderer, highlighted, is the addition of 36 new entries in the database table of Empowered Evoker spells in the latest 10.1 build. This table contains all Empowered Evoker spells.

It will be interesting to see what the spells are intended for in the future.
