The War Effort has begun in the Season of Mastery! Check out everything related to the event as Blizzard detail the changes made for SoM as well as the original Classic setup.

The great desert fortress of Ahn'Qiraj, long sealed behind the Scarab Wall, is home to the insectoid qiraji, a savage race set to mount an assault to devastate the continent of Kalimdor. But something far more sinister lurks behind Ahn'Qiraj's walls: the Old God C'Thun, an ancient entity whose pervasive evil had suffused Azeroth since time immemorial.
The next Content Update for WoW Classic Season of Mastery will be available worldwide on April 21, at 3:00 p.m. PDT. At that time, the Ahn’Qiraj War Effort will begin, and both factions must heed the call. Any hero brave enough to undertake the epic quest to become a Scarab Lord will be able to begin their journey.
New in Season of Mastery
Due to the faster release cadence of Season of Mastery, we’ve made some adjustments to the War Effort:
Half as many total resources as before are now required. Reduced the time until auto-completion of War Effort objectives begin. With this change, the gates of Ahn’Qiraj will open on all realms within a month of the event being initiated. The “Brood of Nozdormu” reputation reward from the repeatable quest “The Hand of the Righteous” has been doubled. In addition, those who venture into the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj will now encounter the mysterious Prophecy of Chaos, which will allow those in good standing with the Brood of Nozdormu to undertake additional challenges within the Temple. C’thun has also been restored to his original, most horrific form; you can expect this nightmarish Old God to present a much greater challenge than his original WoW Classic incarnation.

Join the War Effort
Supplies are needed to fuel the war effort against the sinister forces of Ahn’Qiraj. You’ll need to work alongside other members of your faction to contribute the resources needed open the ancient citadel’s gates and begin your siege on the Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj and the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj.
Both Horde and the Alliance will need to bring a steady stream of supplies to the Valley of Spirits in Orgrimmar or to the Military Ward in Ironforge. Each turn-in will reward Ahn’Qiraj War Effort Supplies containing useful items and Alliance Commendation Signets or Horde Commendation Signets, which can be used to gain reputation with your faction.
While many of the necessary supplies can be obtained as loot drops or purchased from the Auction House, having a profession that helps you acquire these supplies will also come in handy. Here is a list of items you’ll need to set your sights on collecting.

Once the resources for the War Effort have been gathered by both the Horde and the Alliance, supply chains will make their way from Ironforge and Orgrimmar to Cenarion Hold in Silithus. Once these resources reach Cenarion Hold, players who are on the quest line to create the Scepter of the Shifting Sands will be able to undertake the “Bang a Gong!” quest in order to complete it.
During the War Effort, players will also be able to begin earning reputation with the Brood of Nozdormu by turning in Silithid Carapace Fragments. You’ll need to turn in the Head of the Broodlord Lashlayer to begin the quest “The Path of Righteous” or be deputized by another player who has Proxy of Nozdormu before these fragments will begin to drop for you.
Who Will Rise as Scarab Lord?
Players will also be able to begin a quest series to create the Scepter of the Sands, which will enable them to ultimately ring the gong on the realm they are on. The first player on each realm who completes the quest and rings the gong will become the realm’s “Scarab Lord” and receive the Black Qiraji Resonating Crystal, which will summon a ridable Qiraji battle tank that can be used in the outdoor world as well as within the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj.
Players who complete the Scepter of the Sands quest chain and ring the gong in the first 10 hours of the gong being rung initially will also receive the Black Qiraji Resonating Crystal.
Any other players who complete the quest line past the 10–hour period won’t receive the mount, but will still receive rewards from the “Treasure of the Timeless One” quest, which includes one of four epic weapons, experience, reputation, and a little money for your pocket.
Pushing Back the Enemy
Once the gong is rung on a realm, it will mark the beginning of a 10-hour war heralding the arrival of Anubisath and Qiraji warriors, which can be found in the Barrens and Thousand Needles (for lower-level players) and Silithus, Tanaris, and Feralas (for higher-level players). Defending against these incursions will give players a chance to earn gold, experience, and reputation with the Brood of Nozdormu, along with a higher chance for rare drops.
Opening of the Gates
At the completion of the 10-hour war, the Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj (a 20-player raid dungeon) and the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj (a 40-player raid dungeon) will open, allowing players access to the dangers and treasures within.
We have a big PTR patch for SoM with changes to the War Effort, the Temple raid, and even major economic adjustments, including profession modifications, bug fixes, and more.
The Gates of Ahn’Qiraj
The War Effort now requires half as many total resources as before. Reduced the time until auto-completion of War Effort objectives begins. With this change, the gates of Ahn’Qiraj will open on all realms within a month of the event being initiated. The chat log text will display 200 reputation gained, while the actual amount of reputation gained for completing this Quest is 400. The Temple of Ahn’Qiraj
Significant adjustments have been made to the Prophet Skeram encounter. Players will now find piles of “Quick Sand” scattered throughout the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj. Interacting with these piles will grant nearby players a stackable bonus to movement speed (both mounted and un-mounted). Raid groups that manage to defeat the Prophet Skeram to gain access to the tunnels beneath Ahn’Qiraj will encounter the “Prophecy of Chaos” and may interact with this mysterious object to receive dark whispers and enable additional challenges in the Temple of Anh’Qiraj. New Prophecy of Chaos mechanics become available as players reach new reputation levels with the Brood of Nozdormu. Defeating bosses while under the influence of the Prophecy of Chaos will result in increased loot rewards, scaling with the difficulty chosen. The difficulty of the baseline Fankriss the Unyielding Encounter has been adjusted. Developers’ notes: While this encounter has not seen the addition of any new mechanics, players should now find that they will need to engage the existing mechanics in a much more meaningful way. Even in Original World of Warcraft and WoW Classic, this encounter always felt like it was a step down in difficulty relative to everything else in the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj, and the nature of these changes should make even the base version of the encounter feel more dangerous in Season of Mastery. C’thun has been restored to his original, most horrific form. Developer’s Note: By popular demand, we’ve implemented the “pre-nerf” version of C’thun in all of his mathematically impossible glory. Economic Adjustments
Adjustments have been made to certain professions and the availability of many crafting materials: Removed the level 60 requirement for alchemists to proc additional items from successful crafts. Level 300 Alchemy is still required. Removed the level 60 requirement for Herbalists to receive black lotus from high-level herb spawns. Successful crafts of Arcanite Bars, Mooncloth, and Cured Rugged Hide will now proc additional bars, cloth, or hides, respectively. Level 300 Alchemy, Tailoring, and Leatherworking required. The respawn times of almost all herbalism nodes have been significantly adjusted. Developers’ notes: In many cases the minimum and maximum respawn times have been reduced by half, or more. This is in addition to the respawn timer changes made in earlier content phases of Season of Mastery. Thanks to improvements in fishing line technology across Azeroth, it is now possible to receive multiple Firefin Snapper, Oily Blackmouth, and Stonescale Eel from a single successful fishing attempt. Increased the amount of Elemental Water, Earth, and Fire from relevant herbalism and mining nodes. Added a chance for more than one Demonic Rune to drop at once from creatures that would normally drop Demonic Runes, such as Satyrs. Greatly increased the availability of Scarabs, Idols, and Coffer Keys in both the Ruins and Temple of Ahn’Qiraj. Greatly increased the availability of Bijous and Coins from all sources in Zul’Gurub. Hakkar will also now drop a cache of Bijous when killed. User Interface
New accessibility options such as Text to Speech and Speech to Text have been added to Burning Crusade Classic. You can learn more about these features here.
Fixed an issue in Classic Era where C’thun would occasionally use his erratic movement animations during his Dark Glare ability. Fixed an issue in Classic Era and Season of Mastery where Farmer Dalson’s outhouse in Western Plaguelands could get stuck in a non-interactive state and block quest progression. Fixed an issue in Season of Mastery where the instance exploitation-prevention mechanics could be bypassed with engineering grenades. Fixed an issue in Classic Era where Maexxna’s web wrap would sometimes immediately drop affected players to the ground rather than suspending them on the wall. Made some improvements to the Subdue Private Hendel step of the quest “The Missing Diplomat” in Dustwallow Marsh that should reduce the likelihood that the event stalls and blocks quest progression.
We have the expected reveal for WotLK Classic, which comes with a modified version of the original cinematic! The expansion is coming in 2022.

The heroes of the Alliance and Horde have fought against the evils in Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms, against the demons of the Burning Legion in Outland, and against each other—unaware that an imminent threat was looming in the vast and icy continent of Northrend.
The Lich King, Arthas Menethil, sits in the ominous Icecrown Citadel scheming to claim the world as his own—a plan that threatens all life on Azeroth. Later this year, you will again get to explore bone-chilling lands, storm Icecrown Citadel, and halt the Lich King’s baleful efforts. Only the most stalwart can challenge the Lich King and end his reign of terror in this rerelease of the 2008 expansion. Just like it shook up WoW® during its original release, Wrath of the Lich King Classic™ will thrill both veterans and newcomers with a host of improved features and content to explore:
The Grim Frozen North – Heroes will begin their journey in one of two zones in Northrend—Borean Tundra or Howling Fjord—and adventure through some of the most epic vistas and beloved storylines in all of Warcraft before breaching the seat of the Lich King’s power in Icecrown. The Rise of Death Knights – Available to both factions and starting at level 55, Death Knights—World of Warcraft’s first hero class—harness the powers of darkness to help combat the evil that threatens Azeroth. While Death Knights are limited to one per server and require a level 55 character on that server to create, in Wrath Classic, we will be bypassing that requirement for a player’s first Death Knight. New Profession—Inscription – This new profession allows players to scribe mystical glyphs that modify the properties of spells and abilities (cooldowns, damage, etc.), and craft powerful trinkets and off-hand items. Achievements Unlocked – Achievements are coming to WoW Classic, giving players new rewards for their exploits and accomplishments. Dungeons & Raids – Relive seminal 5-player dungeons like Azjol-Nerub and the Culling of Stratholme, and lay siege to Naxxramas as a 25- or 10-player raid—an update of its original iteration as a 40-player raid in pre-expansion World of Warcraft. Included With Existing World of Warcraft Subscriptions – As with previous WoW Classic releases, anyone who subscribes to World of Warcraft can also play Wrath of the Lich King Classic at no additional cost.
Additionally, we want to provide a better experience for our new and existing Classic players with the following changes:
Level 70 Boost – The level cap will be increased to 80, and we’re introducing a Level 70 Boost so those who didn’t play Burning Crusade Classic but wish to play Wrath with their friends or explore Northrend can do so right away. This boost will be available one per account and can be used on any class except Death Knights. No Dungeon Finder – Players rediscovering Wrath of the Lich King Classic won’t find the Looking for Dungeon feature originally added in Patch 3.3.5. We’ve heard from our Classic community that the importance of social bonds is a big part of what makes Classic their game of choice, and we agree. Personal Arena Rating– Throughout Burning Crusade Classic, our PvP community has made it clear that they’d prefer the flexibility of rating being personal rather than tied to a fixed team, so we will be removing Arena Teams in Wrath Classic. Barber Shop Improvements – In the years since the Barber Shop was first added in Wrath, World of Warcraft has added additional customization options, including some that originally were only available as paid services. We’re going to incorporate all of those improvements in Wrath Classic rather than reverting to the authentic 2008 behavior. Welcome to the 1.14.3 PTR for WoW Classic Season of Mastery!
The unspeakable evil that resides at the heart of the Ahn’Qiraj is still slumbering,* gathering all of its horrifying strength while events unfold above. It is whispered by cultists of the Twilight’s Hammer that when their god is unleashed it will have been restored to its full and terrible glory. The prophets of the old gods scoff at the threat posed by the invading heroes of the Might of Kalimdor, assured that overcoming their master’s true form will require a “mathematically impossible” level of determination and skill, far beyond the feeble limits of mere mortals’ bodies and minds.
The Temple of Ahn’Qiraj is available for testing. The Prophet Skeram encounter has seen multiple adjustments for Season of Mastery. Players who gain access to the entrance to the lower levels of Ahn’Qiraj will encounter the “Prophecy of Chaos” and through it, discover additional challenges. Players with sufficient reputation levels with the Brood of Nozdormu may read from its eldritch writings to add new dangers to the encounters found deeper within the temple… in exchange for ever greater rewards. Please note that the increased rewards are not yet hooked up on the Season of Mastery PTR. All newly-created template characters have been updated with Blackwing Lair loot and are exalted with the Brood of Nozdormu for testing purposes. *The final encounter of the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj will not be available on the PTR.

Prepare to go beyond the gates of Zul’Gurub in WoW Classic Season of Mastery on March 3!
Within the jungles of Stranglethorn Vale, distant drums beat in an ancient ritual, calling forth the Blood God, Hakkar to the ancient troll city of Zul’Gurub. Beyond the jungle, ancient emerald dragons rise.
Deep within the jungles of Stranglethorn, an ancient troll city full of untold peril awaits. Do you have what it takes to delve into its mysteries? Assemble a band of hardy explorers and make your way to Zul’Gurub a max-level, 20-player raid instance with 120 new rare and epic items to procure from its verdant tree-lined avenues and lost temples.

The entrance to Zul’Gurub is located just east of Lake Nazferiti in Stranglethorn Vale. Horde players can fly into Grom’gol Base Camp and travel east past the lake to reach the dungeon. Alliance players will need to travel south from Duskwood and then head east at the lake.
13 total boss encounters await within Zul’Gurub, with four of those available on a rotating basis as part of the Edge of Madness encounter, which allows access to one of these bosses per reset.
Before you face Hakkar, you’ll first want to first defeat his five priests to improve your odds of success. If left alive, they’ll lend their powers to the Blood God, making him near unstoppable. They can be defeated in any order, and each has a chance to drop rewards your party may find useful in your journey through Zul’Gurub.

Great rewards are waiting within Zul’Gurub, including 5 epic pieces of gear that can be earned through quest rewards with enough reputation with the Zandalar Tribe. If fortune favors you, you can also collect the Swift Razzashi Raptor and Swift Zulian Tiger mounts.
The Dragons of Nightmare
Something is amiss in the Emerald Dream. Immense dragons of the Green Dragonflight have been sighted guarding the portals at the Great Trees . . . but these noble creatures have been imbued with an ominous new presence, bereft of the peace for which Ysera is known. To confront these Dragons of Nightmare, you’ll need to call forth your staunchest allies—for their powers are formidable, and they will not hesitate to crush any who draw near.
