Profession Revamp in Dragonflight

Recommended Posts

Professions are getting revamped in Dragonflight. In this post, we're looking at the changes in more detail.

Key Takeaways from the Deep Dive Video

  • Blizzard's introducing something called Crafting Orders that allow you to request for another player to craft something for you even if you don't have the skill or the right profession to do it yourself.
  • You can browse through any recipes that can be crafted, pick one you want for yourself, and include some (or all) crafting reagents needed for the recipe.
  • You can either let another player craft the item for you or visit an NPC that uses an Auction House-style UI to send the order out.
  • You can specify if your Crafting Order will be open to public, send to your guild, and so forth.
  • In Dragonflight, you can get access to crafted Soulbound items without having the profession yourself.
  • New ways of earning specialization are coming.
  • The new 10.0 hub will contain crafting tables for every profession.
  • New gear for crafters is coming.

Professions have been a staple of World of Warcraft since its initial launch and while there have been incremental updates over time, we wanted to do something a bit different in Dragonflight. We wanted take time to rethink them and figure out how to make them a part of player identity—at the player’s choice, of course.

First up, we’re introducing something we’re calling Crafting Orders. Crafting Orders allow you to request for another player to craft something for you even if you don’t have the skill or have the right profession to do it yourself. You’ll be able to browse through any recipes that can be crafted, pick the one you want for yourself, and then include some or all the reagents needed for the recipe—including ones only you can get your hands on. You can either find someone in person who craft right in front of you, or you can go to an NPC, which uses an Auction House-like interface and send the order out.

You’ll be able to specify if the order is open to the public for any crafter to pick up, only send it to your guild, or to a specific player you know who has the ability to craft the item for you.

One of the other things worth noting is that the item you have crafted can also be Soulbound. In the past the only way to get access to a crafted Soulbound item was to have the profession yourself. Now anyone can have them crafted for them which really expands the number of items that we can provide to anyone.

There are some additional updates of note as well. The biggest is the introduction of quality of both your crafted items and gathered reagents. Quality is pretty straightforward. If you craft something that is higher quality, it’s just going to be better. For pieces of gear, which may mean a higher item level. If it’s a potion, it may be a more powerful effect at a higher quality.

The crafting UI also introduces stats specifically to your professions for both crafting and gathering.

The biggest source of your ability to craft items at higher quality is through crafting specializations. While there have been specializations in the past, in Dragonflight, you’ll be able to go out and earn specialization points in multiple ways. You may find an old book on a bookshelf in a ruin somewhere. You could meet up with a hermit in a cave who can teach you more about your profession. In the end, you’ll be able to choose as a Blacksmith, for example, to become an Armorsmith and you’ll be able to put points into that skill to become better at crafting all armor. This opens opportunities for players within the same guild to specialize in varying aspects of a profession to add value to the guild.

We’ll also be adding crafting tables for all professions within the new city hub of Valdrakken. It’s a great way for crafters to meet up in the city or for other players to find a crafter if they want to meet face to face.

Crafters will also be getting new types of gear for their profession which you will automatically swap into when doing something like tapping a mining node. This gear won’t need to take any space in your backpack and will have special stats on them that will aid you in getting better in your profession.

By specializing and honing your craft, you could build your own clientele and build your reputation for high-quality items. How far you take it is up to you.

Bruh, seeing the new Tuskarr models really makes wonder if they'll make them playable in 11.0. Same for Nagas, Gnolls, Mogu etc

Remember, by then it'll be 2024, so they'll want something big for the anniversary

This looks really cool.

Edit: It's kinda funny though that FF just got rid of HQ gathered items to reduce the amount of inventory clutter that the game has. I hope WoW keeps this in mind.

If this helps a casual player earn money from a profession, I think that's great.

I think people that hustle hard in the game should be rewarded more, but not at the cost of "owning the server market." Maybe this will help a bit 🤷‍♂️

They also have to make some professions more useful, otherwise alchemy and enchanting are going to dominate the market.

Hell yeah. When I used to play, any profession outside of those was a joke. You'd grind it up based on your passion for it (like me 😂).

Remember in classic, when engineer bombs were viable tools for large pulls? I would love stuff like that coming back: engineering selling stuff for CC, maybe Blacksmithing selling stuff for damage reduction, perhaps Leathworking for mount speed, etc etc.

We're in week 11 of the Sepulcher raid, so it's high time we switched our focus over to Mythic, with over 126 guilds having finished the raid at maximum difficulty. As we move to Mythic we're also taking a look at the individual boss charts, so you get a better idea of what's happening where (and we're also still covering Heroic at the end as well).
      Mythic
      95th Percentile
We don't have a comparison point for the high percentiles in Mythic, since it's the first week of the switch, but we can compare it to last week's Heroic chart. Destruction is the very top of the pile in Mythic (and you can read about why in last week's entry), both in the high percentiles and overall, but Frost DK is doing just as well as it is in Heroic, actually beating out Demonology in the higher difficulty. Marksmanship is also in a much better position here, and Retribution is especially benefiting from the increase in difficulty, as it's 8 spots higher than in Heroic!

95th percentile Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
We do have a direct week-to-week comparison in the all percentiles chart, and here we see Demonology actually climb up a spot and take 2nd place away from Survival. Retribution actually falls a little as Havoc takes its place in 9th and Windwalker pushes it out of the top 10, while Feral nose-dives down 9 spots towards the bottom.

All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Halondrus
Moving on to the individual bosses, Halondrus is where Enhancement shines most, closely followed by fellow melees Assassination and Feral.

All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Anduin Wrynn
Anduin isn't quite the main reason Destruction is doing so well, but he's definitely contributing, as Survival and Frost get their fill here as well.

All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Rygelon
The Destruction booster himself, as you can see Rygelon's Scouring Tithe interaction brings the Warlocks to the very top in the overall rankings, with the VERY few Feral Druids popping up to the top here as well.

All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      The Jailer
The Jailer is more in favor of the other Warlock flavor, as Demo is making its name here, while Ferals gather in a more respectable number to show that the Rygelon placement wasn't necessarily a fluke.

All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Heroic
While it's relegated to the bottom of the post, Heroic is still very relevant, with much higher numbers of players giving its data a lot of validity and credibility. This week we see a new No.1 in the overall bracket, as Demonology takes over from Survival and Shadow bumps Enhancement down one, with Balance doing the same to Marksmanship.

All percentiles Heroic data by Warcraft Logs.

As always, if you want even more info on a spec, you can check out our class guides here, for a DPS tier list you can go here, or for even more data, head on over to Warcraft Logs. You can also check out our Sepulcher raid guides.

After a long time of only being available via the Overwolf app, CurseForge has announced that it is now once again available in standalone form! The CurseForge addon manager app Alpha is now available and you can download it over on their site (but be careful to click the right link):

This arrives as a reaction to a prolonged period of some players voicing their dissatisfaction over the client only being available via Overwolf, and was revealed together with a larger announcement of the CurseForge API being released  (you can read the full version here), and here is the relevant section:
We take community feedback seriously. Many of the community members voiced their preference for a leaner approach to managing mods. We’ve taken this into consideration and developed a standalone version of the CurseForge app on Windows, based on Electron, which you can download here.
As with the Linux version, it currently supports World of Warcraft only. We plan to keep this version in feature parity with the Overwolf version in the future. Please note, this is fresh from the oven and currently on Alpha.
If you have any questions or feedback about this, please join our Discord and let us know.
This was initially spotted by scytherz over on reddit, and you can check out that thread for plenty of comments on the new app's functionality, relative light weight, and other details players have tested.

We're looking at a strange bug that affects some proto-drake mounts on live servers.
Many players are reporting issues with their proto-drake mounts on Reddit. The first report is from 5 days ago. The bug affects Reins of the Time-Lost Proto-Drake, which for some reason, no longer flies in the middle of the screen, and its run animation is twice the speed of other proto-drake mounts.

Apparently, Reins of the Violet Proto-Drake is experiencing the same issues while Reins of the Ironbound Proto-Drake and Reins of the Rusted Proto-Drake work as they should.

The second report is from 3 months ago and showcases the strange mount animation. It claims that all proto-drake mounts except for those from Ulduar are affected by the bug.

Did you experience this strange bug on live servers?

Patch 9.2.5 appears to be the first update to the game where major story elements remain heavily encrypted. In the latest PTR update, Blizzard shipped an encrypted 9.2.5 splash screen, which is something they've never done before.
Players are prompted with a splash screen when they log in to the game for the first time when an update goes live. It shows you what's new in the patch. Here's the splash screen for Patch 9.2.

The splash screen for Patch 9.2.5 was shipped in the latest build, but it is encrypted and cannot be previewed. Maybe it has something to do with the mysterious Stormwind and Orgrimmar updates or the Forsaken (spoiler alert).
However, the splash screen text for Patch 9.2.5 is available for preview but contains no spoilers.
New in Season 4! Shadowlands Season 4 - Earn new rewards in Mythic Keystone dungeons and PvP. New Mythic+ Dungeons - Experience iconic legacy dungeons with Mythic affixes! Fated Raids - Return to Shadowlands raids for a new challenge and new rewards.

Reddit user nazranramlee noticed something interesting while visiting their local hospital in Malaysia. The TV was showing the Mists of Pandaria trailer on repeat.

Apparently, this isn't specific to just one hospital in the country.
Reddit user aimlessart saw the same trailer playing over and over in another hospital they have been visiting for over 6 years, claiming they both might have been set up by the same contractor who thought the Mists of Pandaria trailer looked visually appealing for entertainment purposes.
The contractor most likely never bothered to update the visuals again, which is why the TVs are constantly running the same Mists of Pandaria trailer while people wait in queue.
