Speculation About Encrypted Content in Patch 9.2.5

Recommended Posts

Blizzard has upped their game regarding encryption in Patch 9.2.5. In this post, we speculate about encrypted content coming in the patch. This post contains spoilers.

The following post is based on MrGM's speculation video available below.

Highlights

  • Blizzard has done a great job at encrypting portions of Patch 9.2.5. We don't know everything that's coming in the patch.
  • In the past, they've used encryption, but not to the extent of Patch 9.2.5.
  • For the first time in the history of WoW, the whole splash screen is encrypted in Patch 9.2.5
  • There's a rumor of an Allied Race coming as a Dragonflight pre-order bonus circulating in the community. The theory points toward Darkfallen, which are Night Elves and Blood Elves with reddish eyes.
  • There's a new questline taking place in Tirisfal Glades. A new minimap, suggesting Brill will be remade. The map of Lordaeron refers to the post-blight stage.
  • Brill got a new flight path in 9.2.5.
  • We know the encrypted Lordaeron content has something to do with Calia Menethil. One quest named Eyes of the Wolf wasn't encrypted. Still, it doesn't give much away.
  • There is an encrypted armor set.
  • Stormwind and Orgrimmar have new stable areas and their purpose is still unknown.
  • Patch 9.2.5 could be the new standard when it comes to hiding content until the update hits live servers.

I really hope some budget mail clerk doesn't spoil this stuff and leak it to the web.

Let there be surprises and unknowns people.

Almost everything gets datamined these days, unless there is some good encryption. Well, not just "these days", this has been going on for many years now.

weird how the majority of other games do it then.  you act like most games are spoiled with massively promoted datamining like WoW is but this is more the niche than anything else.

you didn't respond to what he said though.  FF14 manages to pull it off just fine and always has.  so do the overwhelming majority of other games.  WoW is in a tiny minority of games whose entire updates get leaked every time.  that doesn't happen with 80-90% of games.

Don't know what is the reason, honestly. Maybe they have worse encryption or just do not care if it gets leaked. That or they believe it helps with hype around the game.

I think it's always best to keep speculation at a minimum, it raises people's expectations too high and then they're disappointed. Still, I hope there's at least one surprise.

Last week's title proved to be cursed, as Blizzard postponed the Destruction nerfs, and so the top spec remains very much unchanged, but the rest of the tuning did go through, with Affliction getting a boost and some tanks getting changes as well.
      Mythic
      95th Percentile
While Destruction avoided its ultimate fate for a while longer, Demonology is just biding its time to claim that No.1 spot. Survival moved into 3rd as it passed Frost DK, but it is also scheduled for a nerf (although an unspecified one) in Season 4, so the year of the spear may be coming to an end. Windwalker remains firm in 5th after its 9.2.5 buff, as Unholy continues to climb, rising 1 into 6th and passing Elemental. Feral sees a huge upswing, as it jumps 6 spots into 8th, followed by Marksmanship. However, Feral isn't the biggest mover this week, with Affliction actually rising into the top 10 after its buff, 10 spots up from last week and a full 14 spots up from its dead-last spot before that. Now we do have a relatively smaller group of players even plying Affliction, so the numbers aren't necessarily the most accurate, but it's definitely received a boost and might prompt some more to play it (at least in Season 4 when Destro moves out of the top).

95th percentile Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
Survival moves past Frost DK in the generalist bracket as well, but the big news is Affliction once again, which is doing even better here, moving into No.6 after the buffs, climbing 8 spots! The buff may not have been that big, but it seems to have worked, at least for now. The rest remains mostly the same, with Retribution moving up a few spots and all three mage specs moving further towards the bottom, where Fire has taken residence.

All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Tanks and Healers
The tanks got a bit of a shakeup with the class tuning, but it hasn't impacted the numbers yet, on the contrary in fact, as Protection Warrior takes the top spot, while it was Guardian and Vengeance that actually got buffed in the tuning, but remained in their same spots. Paladins dropped 2 spots in the DPS charts as they swapped places with Warriors, and Brewmasters remained at the bottom.
All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
Healers didn't get any changes in terms of tuning, and their rankings remained very similar, with only discipline moving up 2 spots.

All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Heroic
Demonology is in charge in Heroic, as Destruction remains down in 15th where it's been for a while now. The big mover at the top is Enhancement, as it slots into 3rd place, 3 up from last week! Survival recovers after a dip, landing in 5th, and is followed by one of the biggest outliers in Heroic, with Balance sitting in 6th, in stark contrast to it's very low standing in Mythic.

As always, if you want even more info on a spec, you can check out our class guides here, for a DPS tier list you can go here, or for even more data, head on over to Warcraft Logs. You can also check out our Sepulcher raid guides.

If you change your Loot Specialization, Zereth Mortis World and Daily Quests can offer different weapons as rewards.
The game will offer you different rewards from World and Daily Quests on live servers when you switch your Loot Specialization. Here is a short video demonstration video:

You can utilize Loot Specialization switching to collect transmogs or weapons for your off-spec.

Note that this only works in Zereth Mortis and it takes approximately 10 seconds for the rewards to change.

Update: it seems there's only half a mystery here, as I actually just didn't spot the Path of Frost icon, which led to the death. Apologies there. GY port is still a bug though!
It seems someone's been pouring concrete around Stormwind's oceans, as JuliusLeNightmare faced off against some water and lost, only to be teleported to a very far away graveyard.
Now while the teleport to the Tirisfal graveyard and the weird invasion of the zone near Stormwind is a well-known phenomenon/spatial anomaly, the transformation of the water into concrete is slightly weirder! Forsaken conspiracy/concrete pouring or weird bug? You decide!

We've seen many WoW-related Minecraft builds over the years, and this is one of the better ones, as it takes the Alliance capital and transforms it extremely well. After 200 hours of work, @Yunatahel finally finished up and shared the project with the world, so let's take a look!
Warning: potentially loud twitter video sound.
Even the official WoW twitter account commented!

You can also check out a different take on Stormwind (and Orgrimmar) here, and a recent Silvermoon rebuild here.

After today's reveal of the Priest Dragonflight talent tree, Blizzard went into a little more detail for one particular Shadow talent, as it was a little unclear what it did. Here's the basic tooltip we got today, which will be updated.

"Idol of Y'Shaarj: Shadowfiend causes you to gain a benefit based on your target's current emotional state."
      Idol of Y'Shsarj (Source)
Idol of Y’Shaarj will receive a new tooltip as we get closer to Dragonflight. In the meantime though, here’s a breakdown of what it currently does:
      If your target is…
      Above 80% health? → Pride
You and your Shadowfiend deal increased damage while Shadowfiend is active. Enraged? → Anger
Purges the enraged effect and increases your Haste while Shadowfiend is active. Stunned? → Despair
You generate Insanity while Shadowfiend is active. Feared? → Fear
You and your Shadowfiend deal increased damage and do not break fear effects while Shadowfiend is active. No conditions met? → Violence
Duration of Shadowfiend is increased. The priority order is:
      Anger/Despair/Fear → Pride → Violence
As with everything in the talent tree, these effects are subject to change. I hope this clears up some confusion. We’ll continue monitoring the community’s feedback and we look forward to sharing more Dragonflight details in the future!
