Which Abilities Would You Bring Back for Dragonflight?

Recommended Posts

T6oHRbN.jpeg

In this post, we're looking at abilities the community would like to bring back in Dragonflight.

In a Reddit thread that accumulated almost 1,200 responses over the last 24 hours, players provide a list of abilities they'd like to see again in the Dragonflight expansion.

Mages would like to see Deep Freeze Deep Freeze again, Hunters want Snake Trap Snake Trap back and the ability to change a pet's specialization. Shaman mains would like a talent that makes Lightning Bolt castable while moving again. Blizzard also removed Gust of Wind Gust of Wind for Shamans in Battle for Azeroth.

Hunters lost the ability to throw axes in Battle for Azeroth, which is another thing players would like to bring back. Another Hunter request mentions Black Arrow Black Arrow.

Warlock players miss the ability to quickly move their dots to other targets.

Paladins genuinely miss Exorcism Exorcism, which was removed in Legion.

Druids would like Symbiosis back. A Tree of Life form that gives actual benefits similar to how it worked pre-Cataclysm is also among the requests.

Holy Priest players would like chakras/stances to return.

Are there any abilities in particular that you'd like to see? Let us know in the comments!

Yes, please bring back Throwing Axes. They were my favorite part of my kit in Legion, this whole "oh, you managed to get away from me? Think again!" feel to Surv at the time. Legion Surv was the most fun I had with Hunter since Cata, and there are plenty of abilities I'd like to see returned to us.

Gladiator stance for Warrior. And Skull Banner.

Hunters having passive animal aspects, instead of short buff aspects on cooldown.

Two-handed or Dual-wielding for Frost DK <--Looks like Shadowlands re-added this one too, nice!

Didn't Shamans have a water-breathing ability? Totems in general. Old school Windfury.

Eyes of the Beast for Hunter <-- Looks like Shadowlands re-added this one, cool.

Deep Freeze for Mage.

Soulburn and Soulswap for affliction locks.

Especially soulburn's effect on Soulswap 😛

(instant triple dot application in return for soul shards)

The ability to change the stats on a piece of gear to what you need like in Mists of Pandaria and seals for extra loot.

The ability to have an advantage for being a higher level. No more scaling.

I got ganked on my Legion geared lock at the start of BFA. Dude was like 4 levels higher than me.

He didn't stand a chance. 😂

Soulswap was nice but I'll settle for just hard loading Aff damage back in to dots and not this maelific rapture spender nonsense smh.

While not an ability, I'd like to see jewelcrafters be allowed to craft an item that puts a gem socket on an item if they stick to the RNG gem sockets.

Most importantly: Let Hunters change pet specs again. This would open up pet options so much. I have no idea why it was taken away.

Make Dire Beast a focus generator again. I LOVED the Beast Cannon build. It was tremendous fun and let us see unused pets from our stables.

Make Kill Shot give the heal again when it successfully kills a target. That was so awesome.

Make Camouflage work like Druid and Rogue stealth or at least make it so the cool down starts after it's used like it did in WOD, so it can be used back to back and continuously .

Black Arrow would be good. A return of the old Stampede. Make it so we don't have to choose between Cheetah and being able to stealth.

And while I probably wouldn't play it, give Ranged Survival players back that option. It'd let people do their dark ranger fantasy too. Win / Win.

As a hunter main I can't tell you how much I would love to be able to select the Pet Spec again. It doesn't add any advantage but would absolutely let me match my Race, Mog, Mount, etc. to my pet. As a Vulpera hunter I would love nothing more that to run around with a Hyena pet but I'd like to keep the Ferocity talents like Primal Rage.

Without soulburn we need 3 global cds on every new target just to begin doing dmg. It was a great solution that gave you an option to burn shards to feel useful even on new mobs. It also did it through dots so their scaling could be kept powerful. In short, we agree, i just think soulburn is a great way to get there.

In general:  I want "old xpac gear" to stop insta-stinking the moment you cross lines to the next xpac.   I know, it isn't class abilities, but it affects EVERYthing.

The current hack to this is that some crafting recipes take the Optional Reagent slot, which is interesting, but doesn't solve...

Give us back some Ancient Powers of some sort on all the legendaries anyone has bothered to keep over the years.   In their time or on their zone we busted tailfeathers and reputation and probably some very odd coinage to get them.  Now they are all laced with "too bad this power isn't here anymore".  AND, the powers for these things are class relevant.

Give THOSE back.   Maybe make an "empowerment" questline for people's souls to uptake the bond to these things.   they are.... "soulbound" right?   Make that MEAN something.

PRO: folks who go it slow retain interesting ways to get such things, or at least, I assume they are not shredding the questlines from past xpacs just to nerf it farther somehow.

CON: "oh no, raiders wanting BiS will have to go do questlines in old zones" lol is that bad?  If so, is it somehow worse than playing splits in heroics hoping for gems sockets or tertiary effects to drop?

CON maybe, altho I personally think PRO: "oh no, slower-paced players might get gear suited to heavy raiding"  more raiders having fun sounds like a win to me.

Tilting back to the original ask:
Every single power singled out on a tier set, crafted-together set, or legendary uptick, was selected in its time because people used those powers quite a bit.

Any of those which disappeared should come back in some form or method.

I'm just soooooo tired of players getting used to cool stuff only to have it fried later.

Druid, mage:  I began life as a bit of a hybrid, and rocked it.

Current math sucks at a hybrid style.   I look forward to the new trees letting me be again, what I started out good at;  a touch of this and that making my slightly-attentive-to-my-party style able to be GOOD PLAY.

Back in the day I was heavy arcane with a strong dip in frost and like 1 point into fire for a crit bonus.   It worked for me.  Nowadays arc's only frost power seems to be zap-slow or freeze something's toes to the floor, with no particular benefits.

Current tuning for druid says "ok you can have ONE affinity" and it feels like I'm being given a gold star for effort.    Back in the old days cats did enough raw damage to make up for being squishy.   Nowadays I don't play all-four-specs like I did then, just can't.   Leveling resto for the win I guess?  I've had to learn to save my own pants a lot.

Hybrid styles, am looking forward to their return.

They've gotten quite good at separating things to not work in PvP since then, it could come back.

Rextroy is back after a longer absence, and it's definitely with a bang! This time it's a case of try and try again, as an earlier one-shot combo attempt that didn't work has been patched in.
It's a pretty simple one and was actually already being used in duels by other players, so detective Rextroy came back to see what was happening. And it turns out it was something he had already attempted a few times, but never worked. Pouch of Razor Fragments + Gently Squeezed Toad is the weapon of choice here, as Rextroy goes into detail explaining, but there's also an interesting bug at the end, where the damage both does and does not happen in certain situations!
However, Rextroy does not limit his frog-rage to players, as he also takes down Rokhan, Orgimmar's faction boss, in about 2 seconds.

      Background:
This is a combo I tried to do a few patches ago, when the Razor Fragments legendary had just been released! https://www.wowhead.com/spell=356618/...
The plan was to use the DMG scaling aura on lowbie targets (such as the toads) to make kill shot do massive damage and spread 60% of that damage to all nearby units... However, I never got it to spread any of the damage... I assumed Blizzard had thought of the interaction and had something in place to stop it from happening
It seemed to have been the case, until now when it suddenly started to work! I got notified of this from https://twitter.com/Goosecomics/statu... where Trilltko had a hunter do it on him! https://clips.twitch.tv/FineRespectfu...
      His channel: https://www.twitch.tv/trilltko
I am unsure the exact time it started to work, but it is in either 9.2 or 9.2.5... after doing some research on the legendary, it appears that there was an issue that made kill shots that were overkill, not put a debuff on nearby units! https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow...
I saw a lot of similar reports
This must have been the reason it never wanted to spread any of the INSANE dmg... since it was always overkill. With blizzard fixing the bug with the legendary, a new bug was finally allowed to flourish, the one shot bug!
There isnt too much to say about this, except that it is the easiest and most broken one shot (in WPvP) I have come across in Shadowlands so far!
With only 30k HP, and under 200 ilvl, the legendary ticks for 500k+ on players!
All you need to do is to get a kill shot proc from Flayed Shots (Venthyr ability) and use it against a low target (such as Gently Squeezed toads) to amplify the damage. All nearby Horde target, will take insane dmg and get one shot! This works on the Capital bosses too... to solo them within 4 seconds!

Todtodson recreated the Gnomeregan Gate in Dun Morogh in Unreal Engine 5 using Blender.
Below is a short video showcasing the environment. The artist did a really great here.
The recreation is faithful to World of Warcraft and doesn't feel like a completely different game as with other UE5 creations. You can find a complete breakdown of the stylized environment here.

The Alliance Mythic Hall of Fame for Sepulcher is closing this week, as 100 guilds have defeated the Jailer on Mythic difficulty.
For Science are the 100th Alliance guild to down the Jailer on Mythic difficulty. Congratulations!

Cross-realm Mythic Sepulcher was enabled with Patch 9.2.5 when 18 Alliance guilds killed Mythic Jailer. As of this week's reset the "Famed Slayer of the Banished One" title from Hall of Fame: The Jailer (Alliance) will be unavailable.

Last week's title proved to be cursed, as Blizzard postponed the Destruction nerfs, and so the top spec remains very much unchanged, but the rest of the tuning did go through, with Affliction getting a boost and some tanks getting changes as well.
      Mythic
      95th Percentile
While Destruction avoided its ultimate fate for a while longer, Demonology is just biding its time to claim that No.1 spot. Survival moved into 3rd as it passed Frost DK, but it is also scheduled for a nerf (although an unspecified one) in Season 4, so the year of the spear may be coming to an end. Windwalker remains firm in 5th after its 9.2.5 buff, as Unholy continues to climb, rising 1 into 6th and passing Elemental. Feral sees a huge upswing, as it jumps 6 spots into 8th, followed by Marksmanship. However, Feral isn't the biggest mover this week, with Affliction actually rising into the top 10 after its buff, 10 spots up from last week and a full 14 spots up from its dead-last spot before that. Now we do have a relatively smaller group of players even plying Affliction, so the numbers aren't necessarily the most accurate, but it's definitely received a boost and might prompt some more to play it (at least in Season 4 when Destro moves out of the top).

95th percentile Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
Survival moves past Frost DK in the generalist bracket as well, but the big news is Affliction once again, which is doing even better here, moving into No.6 after the buffs, climbing 8 spots! The buff may not have been that big, but it seems to have worked, at least for now. The rest remains mostly the same, with Retribution moving up a few spots and all three mage specs moving further towards the bottom, where Fire has taken residence.

All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Tanks and Healers
The tanks got a bit of a shakeup with the class tuning, but it hasn't impacted the numbers yet, on the contrary in fact, as Protection Warrior takes the top spot, while it was Guardian and Vengeance that actually got buffed in the tuning, but remained in their same spots. Paladins dropped 2 spots in the DPS charts as they swapped places with Warriors, and Brewmasters remained at the bottom.
All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
Healers didn't get any changes in terms of tuning, and their rankings remained very similar, with only discipline moving up 2 spots.

All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Heroic
Demonology is in charge in Heroic, as Destruction remains down in 15th where it's been for a while now. The big mover at the top is Enhancement, as it slots into 3rd place, 3 up from last week! Survival recovers after a dip, landing in 5th, and is followed by one of the biggest outliers in Heroic, with Balance sitting in 6th, in stark contrast to it's very low standing in Mythic.

All percentiles Heroic data by Warcraft Logs.

As always, if you want even more info on a spec, you can check out our class guides here, for a DPS tier list you can go here, or for even more data, head on over to Warcraft Logs. You can also check out our Sepulcher raid guides.
