With the New World: Aeternum open beta now live, you can experience the revamped lands of Aeternum first-hand. Here's what you can expect to see.
This post marks the official launch of the New World: Aeternum open beta (September 13, 9AM PT). This open beta will be playable until September 16, 9AM PT, so if you are interested in taking a closer look at what this game has to offer, now is your chance.
Regardless of if you plan on playing the open beta or not, we wanted to ensure you had a good idea of what you can expect to see throughout the beta experience.
This includes:
Total Customization: Everything from how your character looks, the weapons and tools you use, the mounts that you ride, the emotes you show off, and much, much more is totally up to you - the player. Within the open beta, you'll be able to get a full taste of what this customization really means, and how it affects your gameplay. PvP Options: Although the level cap for the open beta is level 30, you will still have the option to experience a range of PvP modes, including small-scale 3v3 arena battles and influence races, which is an open-world PvP experience where you capture towers and strike down opposing factions. Mounts: If you were a player that initially tried New World out for its initial PC launch, you missed out on experiencing how mounts are implemented throughout the game. Within the open beta, you'll be able to unlock mounts at level 20, and get a better feel of how the mount system will impact your New World Aeternum experience. Amrine Excavation Expedition: Players will be able to experience one of the first expeditions you'll encounter in New World Aeternum - the Amrine Excavation. This will give players a taste of the PvE experience in the game, and their take on "dungeons". Day 1 Rewards: As you explore the land of Aeternum and level up your character during the open beta, you'll be able to receive exclusive rewards, such as: Aeternian Trailblazer: Participate in the open beta Vambrace of the Aeternian Adventurer (Gloves): Reach level 10 Jackboots of the Aeternian Adventurer (Footwear): Reach level 15 Britches of the Aeternian Adventurer (Legwear): Reach level 20 Tricorn of the Aeternian Adventurer (Headwear): Reach level 25 Greatcoat of the Aeternian Adventurer (Chestwear): Reach level 25 To learn more about the New World: Aeternum open beta, click here.

Learn more about the open beta for New World Aeternum, including the in-game rewards you can unlock by participating.
It's official - the open beta for New World: Aeternum is coming to all platforms (PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S) on September 13, 2024 (9 AM PT). This announcement has generated a lot of buzz for both new and returning players alike as they consider embarking this adventure throughout Aeternum in a whole new way.
Players can enjoy this open beta up until September 16 (9 AM PT), where they'll be able to get a look and feel of the revamped experience and updated main story quest. One important note is that there will be a level cap of level 30 within this open beta, limiting players from getting a closer look at some of the new end-game content that's coming to the game (such as the new PvP zone in Cutlass Keys, and the new 10-man raid).
Regardless, this is a great chance to learn more about New World: Aeternum, experience first-hand how it feels on console, and get an inside-look of all the updates that have been made.
By participating in this open beta, players will be given the opportunity to unlock limited-edition skins that will be available for their characters for the official launch of the game (on October 15, 2024). By reaching level 25 within the open beta, players will be able to unlock all potential rewards, which include the "Aeternian Trailblazer" title, and a full set of a new skin known as the "Aeternian Adventurer" set.
This open beta will be available for all players in North America, South America, Europe, and APAC.

Fixed an issue that caused quest resets to repeat lore and map unlock rewards. Added a speculative fix for an issue that caused Void Destroyers to turn invisible in Invasions and the Tempest Heart Expedition. We will continue to monitor the forums to see if players are still encountering this rare issue after the update. Fixed a bug that caused players to not get achievement progress for total Trade Skill ranks. Fixed an issue that caused various quest-giver NPCs to turn invisible. Thanks for your support! We'll see you in Aeternum.

New World July Team Update
Greetings, Adventurers!
Join the New World team for our July Team Update video, where we discuss the development of the Summer Medleyfaire, new mechanics in the Barnacles & Black Powder Expedition, upcoming community events like TwitchCon Amsterdam, and weapon balance changes.
The video will be sectioned by topic on YouTube, so if you’re only interested in checking out certain subjects, you’ll easily be able to navigate to them. Here’s an overview of the topics included in this month’s update.
Video Summary
Summer Medleyfaire Event Features
Mike Willette and Phil Bolus join hosts Scot Lane and Tina Degenhart for a deep dive into the Summer Medleyfaire event. Gather a band of Adventurers to play a rhythm minigame or throw tips at the best bands on the island. You can even complete quests from the Maestro for awesome rewards.
There are also fishing festivities. Exchange the Aeternum Sturgeon for Summer Medleyfaire items and use Mount-A-Catch stations to decorate your house with your favorite catches. How will you celebrate the Summer Medleyfaire?
Delve into pirate territory deep with Mike Willette for more on the Barnacles & Black Powder Expedition. Looking for Adventurers to join your group? The new Expedition Group Finder allows you to quickly match with players based on preferences like role and Gear Score.
Upcoming Community Events
Our Community Team will be at TwitchCon Amsterdam on July 16 - 17. Hang out, ask questions, or join the New World PvP Arena Open. First place will win a trip to TwitchCon San Diego. Greg Henninger, Brittaney Chang, and Katy Kaszynski discuss the event, then tease an upcoming PTR event for players to interact with our Community Team in-game.
There will also be a double XP Fishing and Instrument event to make every Summer Medleyfaire activity feel even more satisfying. Keep an eye on the forums for when you can spend some time fishing with the Community Team during this event.
Designing Summer Medleyfaire
Explore the origin of the Summer Medleyfaire, the Design Team’s approach, and how it all came together with Mike Willette and Deric Nunez. Deric describes how community feedback influenced the updated direction and refinements of holiday event rewards and activities.
Designing Barnacles & Black Powder
Join Mike Willette and Chad Redwitz for insight into the new mechanics players can expect against Admiral Blackpowder and the Neriad. Mike then explains the new Mutations that will release alongside this Expedition. Avoid touching the cursed treasure and overcome Barnacles & Black Powder for some cool new loot.
Weapon Balance
Weapon balance is always changing based on player feedback. David Hall and David Verfaillie speak to Bow, Sword and Shield, and Hatchet changes. Preview these changes early in the PTR and then share your feedback to help us create the best possible version of New World.
We appreciate your support, and we’ll see you in Aeternum!

CAN I PURCHASE ITEMS FROM THE IN-GAME STORE DURING THE FREE WEEKEND EVENT?
In-game purchasing will not be available until you purchase the full game (either the Standard or Deluxe edition).
WHAT IF I ALREADY HAVE NEW WORLD IN MY STEAM LIBRARY. DO I GET ANYTHING FOR FREE?
While this event is primarily designed to allow and encourage new players to give New World a try, there is currently a free item available for existing players in the in-game store — the Black Bear Pelt Rug Housing Item, which is available to claim for free until April 18! We encourage existing players to tell their friends that they can try the game for free during this special weekend event. After all, New World is better with friends!

Yes, we plan to merge free servers after the Steam Free Weekend to ensure healthy world populations.
WHY CAN’T I CREATE A CHARACTER ON CERTAIN SERVERS?
Not all servers are available for new character creation. Please either check back later or create a character on another server.
WILL THE CHARACTER I CREATED DURING THE FREE WEEKEND REMAIN/BE DELETED AFTER THE FREE WEEKEND?
Your character will still be there and you can continue playing it if you purchase New World after the free weekend.
We look forward to seeing you in the wilds of Aeternum!
