Big Upcoming Dragonflight Alpha Hunter Changes: July 22nd

Blizzard have announced a whole lot of changes coming for Hunters in the next Dragonflight Alpha build, with a huge reshuffle for the talent trees, talent redesigns and more.

The next build to alpha will have some pretty substantial changes for the hunter talent trees. Many talent nodes have had their position shuffled around, as well as connections, so this won’t be an exact list of what specific talent node moved to what new position and what it connects to. Some of this may be redundant information with previous posts:

Baseline Changes:

  • Mend Pet has been bumped up from 35% of Pet’s HP over its duration, to 50% of pet’s HP.

Class Tree:

  • The placeholder Agility % node has been replaced with an Avoidance node.
  • Improved Exhilaration (the pet healing) is now part of the baseline Exhilaration ability. This has been replaced with Rejuvenating Winds.
  • Viper’s Venom in the choice node after Serpent Sting has been replaced with Hydra’s Bite.
  • Binding Shackles is planned to work with any combination of Scatter Shot, Explosive Trap, Binding Shot, and Intimidation. This should make sense with the new tree layout.

Beast Mastery

  • Dire Pack has been redesigned. Every X Dire Beasts summoned now resets the cooldown of Kill Command, and reduces the cooldown and Focus Cost of Kill Command for a duration.
  • New talent added that increases the duration and damage of any Dire Beast summon.

Marksmanship:

  • Steady Focus values lowered to 4/8%, rather than 7/15%.
  • Hunter’s Knowledge and Focused Aim now boost Rapid Fire damage and crit chance in addition to Aimed Shot.
  • Salvo has been renamed to Bombardment and redesigned - Arcane Shots increases the damage of your next Multi-Shot by X%, stacking up to 4 times.
  • Explosive Ricochet renamed to Salvo, and design adjusted. Multi-Shot now also shoots Explosive Shot at up to 2 targets hit. This can only occur once every 45 sec.
  • Killer Ricochet renamed and redesigned, is now Razor Fragments - When Trick Shots fades or is consumed, your next Kill Shot does X% more damage, and causes up to 5 targets to bleed for Y% of the damage dealt over 6 sec. This node comes right after Deathblow , which may be in a different position in the tree now.
  • Bursting Shot and Quick Load are no longer a dependency for any talent node on the tree.

Survival

  • Terms of Engagement and Improved Harpoon talents have been combined and now only requires 1 talent point total.
  • Several abilities reduced to 1 or 2 total points, down from 2 or 3 total points.
  • Precision Removed
  • Frenzy Strikes now also applies its cooldown reduction to Flanking Strike.
    • Note: there’s an issue where this talent will incorrectly be able to be obtained by a prior node without the Butchery/Carve node, this connection will be removed in a future update.
  • Wildfire Infusions - Volatile Bomb has been adjusted because Serpent Sting is no longer a baseline, guaranteed to have ability. This bomb will continue to deal bonus damage to a target affected by Serpent Sting, and will also apply Serpent Sting to some number of targets it hits.
  • Viper’s Venom is now in the survival talent tree with a redesign. Raptor Strike and Mongoose Bite have a chance to apply Serpent Sting to your target.
  • New Talent - Ranger - Increases the damage of Steady Shot, Kill Shot, Explosive Shot, and Serpent Sting.
  • New Talent - Intense Focus - increases focus generated by Kill Command
  • New Talent - Ruthless Marauder - Fury of the Eagle has a 15% increased critical strike chance against targets below 20% health, and Fury of the Eagle critical strikes reduce the cooldown of Wildfire Bomb and Flanking Strike by 0.5 sec.
    • The critical strike chance and cooldown reduction values go up per rank, the 20% HP threshold does not change.

This is a lot to parse, and things above are not final. Thanks for the discussions so far, we appreciate it.

My immediate reaction is that Mend Pet change could change the game with soloing old content that's still challenging in terms of damage taken.

The Mend Pet change is already live. Rank 2 Mend Pet increases it from 35% to 50%. The DF alpha change just reflects this same change that was implemented in 9.0.1.

Another Trading Post rotation has come, as May brings a lot of flower-themed items, two mounts, two pets, a butterfly back customization, and a lot more. MrGM dives into everything in the Trading Post, including the returning items that were skipped in the official preview.
The Amber Skitterfly is a little bugged in the game at the moment, as it throws up a Lua error when selecting it (with players even reporting not receiving the mount when buying it), but there's plenty more to get, from the Royal Swarmer mount, to a pretty cool cape, and plenty of returning cosmetics as well.
And if you missed it and prefer images instead, you can also check out the official preview here.

Grimtusk Fishing Hole, one of the requirements to unlock Taivan, is available this week on live servers!
Players who are working on unlocking Good Boy's Leash probably know the Grimtusk Fishing Hole has not been available since the first week of Patch 10.2.6. However, it is available now for the whole week, so you can complete it to get credit towards Taking From Nature.

Head to the Fyrakk Assault area in Azure Span (59 34) and complete the Net Worth quest offered by Gruff Fisher.
If you can't see the quest chances are you don't have access to Ice Fishing.
I'm not really an avid fisher myself, but one player suggests you should have the Secret Fishing Spots  first before completing this quest, but those farming Taivan will possibly know.
Ice Fishing (available at Renown 6 with Iskaara Tuskarr) requires you to craft an Iskaaran Ice Axe. To do that, you must loot Pickaxe Blade at 19 24 in Azure Span. If you're using TomTom here are the exact coords where you'll find the item:

Check the Wowhead comments section for more details.

Players on live servers are experiencing issues upgrading their legendary weapons to item level 502 after using the scale. Blizzard has acknowledged the bug and is actively working on a fix, though it may take some time to implement.

Just used my Scale to upgrade Fyr’alath for season 4 and I can’t upgrade it past 4/14 Awakened. The upgrade NPC believes it isn’t eligible.
We’re working on this as a priority issue. The fix is going to take some time to implement, however.
      Thank you for your patience.

Blizzard have clarified that the recent concern over addon limitations in Patch 10.2.7 is merely a bug and is being worked on.
      RP Addons (Source)
it’s looking like in 10.2.7 PTR the addon comms (something primarily used for addons like the insanely popular addon TRP3 used by Roleplayers) is going to be severely rate-limited server-side, making them effectively unusable. This is going to disproportionately affect the RP community and Blizzard should have communicated this much earlier in the development cycle.
The author of TRP3 has stated they have been looking for a solution but as of right now, there won’t be one come patch day which will kill the addon and many other addons as well. Blizzard, please roll back these changes!
We’ve identified the bug causing this issue on the PTR, and we’re actively investigating solutions to address it in a future build.

Blizzard is set to introduce modifications to addon communications in Patch 10.2.7 for World of Warcraft, with notable implications for role-playing (RP) addons.
Blizzard has now responded and confirmed the issue is a bug they're actively investigating.
The proposed adjustments will implement stricter server-side rate limiting on addon communications, essential for addons like Total RP 3 that support character role-playing and interactions, as highlighted by keyboardturn on Twitter.
Placeholder for tweet 1785049580230574093 The new rate-limiting measures are expected to slow down these addons, significantly increasing the time required to load profiles—from a few seconds to potentially minutes.
The update is designed to decrease server load and prevent misuse of addon communication systems. However, Blizzard has not provided explicit reasons for these changes, leading to speculation and concerns within the community regarding the lack of detailed communication and consideration for RP enthusiasts.
