Greetings!

Build: 47014

December 8, 2022

Testing Focus - Ulduar “Pre-Nerf”

  • The Ulduar raid is now available for testing in both 10 and 25 player versons.
    • To facilitate testing we have re-enabled Character Copy from live realms, as well as added new items to the PTR vendors in Dalaran.
      • Of note, Dungeon Gearatuar in Dalaran also sells the Celestial Planetarium key to access Algalon the Observer’s room.
    • We’ve also added functionality to the teleporters within Ulduar to allow groups to skip to any area of Ulduar right away.
    • Additionally, the door to the Celestial Planetarium is open and Algalon can be accessed freely.
    • Please note that in the release version of the game, you will need to progress through the instance as normal to unlock additional teleporters, and you will need to complete the pre-requisite tasks to unlock the Celestial Planetarium as was the case in 2009.

Ulduar Known Issues

  • When a player is affected by Slag Pot on the Ignis the Furnace Master encounter, their portrait and buff/debuff bars display as if they themselves were Ignis.
  • Iron Dwarf Mole Machines that spawn during the Razorscale encounter play their initial spawn animation twice.
  • During Phase 4 of the Mimiron encounter the Aerial Command Unit spins at extremely high velocity.
  • The initial impact animation of Hodir’s Fury during the Flame Leviathan encounter does not properly clean up and despawn when the spell animation completes, and will persist indefinitely in the encounter space.
  • Yogg-Saron does not display its appropriate death animation when it is defeated.
  • The achievement progress for Supermassive during the Algalon encounter does not reset its progress properly after a failed attempt.
  • The Ulduar Teleporter objects do not change their appearance state after being activated.

Summary of Ulduar Adjustments

There are far too many changes to list in their entirety, but here is a rundown of meaningful changes as well as each bosses’ most significant pre-nerf adjustments. We cannot stress enough that the pre-nerf changes listed here are not comprehensive nor overly detailed in all cases. This is merely an overview of major adjustments we made to bring the encounters back into their most challenging early states.

Realm First! Death’s Demise

  • The Realm’s First: Death’s Demise achievement now requires all four Titan Keepers to be completed on Hard Mode as well as the Assembly of Iron completed on the highest level of hard mode within the same lockout as the Yogg-Saron kill to qualify for the achievement.
    • Developer’s Notes: This is a #change from 2009 but this has been done to help situations where guilds vying for Realm First achievements feeling forced to potentially make a choice between trying to unlock Algalon and/or complete the keepers on hard mode or pushing straight to Yogg Saron for the Realm First achievement, potentially missing out on better rewards while making the push. Making the keepers required as well as Assembly of Iron smooths this out somewhat as all of the needed bosses for both Zero Lights in the Darkness and Algalon are on the critical path to the realm first achievement, and also makes this slightly more difficult to accomplish in general by requiring all of these hard modes to be completed quickly, which feels more consistent with the modern knowledge and skill level of the players who would attempt this achievement.

Flame Leviathan

  • Towers of Flame, Storm, Life, and Frost health increased
  • Tower of Frost additionally slows movement speed by 20%
  • Grab Pyrite may not be used on Salvaged Choppers in the encounter’s pre-nerf state
  • Flame Vents won’t cancel early when Turrets on Flame Leviathan die.

Razorscale

  • Devouring Flame’s damage is increased and may crit.
  • Devouring Flame’s damage category is undefined rather than “Magic”
  • Devouring Flame periodic damage occurs every 1 second rather than ever 2 seconds
  • Fireball Damage increased
  • Fireball and Flame Breath defense category is undefined rather than”Magic”
  • Dark Rune Sentinel has access to whirlwind on 10 player in addition to 25 player mode
  • Razorscale will cast Flame Buffet during phase 2
  • Berserk Timer is 10 minutes down from 15.

Ignis the Furnace-Master

  • Slag Pot damage increased
  • Boss Damage is increased across the board
  • Strength of the Creator’s damage mod reduced from 20% to 15%
    • Developer’s Note: In this state Strength of the Creator is slightly less powerful than its post-nerf state, but this is offset by significantly increased damage that the boss deals with all other abilities

XT-002 Deconstructor

  • (25 Player) XR-949 Salvagebots (pre-XT trash mob) will cast Deploy Salvage Claws twice as often
  • Health and damage increased in all raid sizes and modes for XT-002 and all adds
  • Searing Light and Gravity bomb now reference the same version of the Heartbreak spell used in 10 and 25 player mode.
    • Developer’s Note: Originally these were split to make this less punishing on 10 player. Not so in pre-nerf mode
  • Gravity Bomb damage increased
  • Light Bomb damage increased
  • Light Bomb Radius increased from 8y to 10y
  • Heart Overload visual occurs much more often
  • The amount of health and damage increase XT-002 gains when Heartbreak is active has increased dramatically
  • Shock now chains to up to 3 targets
  • Tympanic Tantrum duration increased from 8 to 12 seconds
  • Defense Matrix range increased from 30 to 45 yards
  • Defense Matrix damage reduction aura increased from 7 to 8 yards
  • The ability Trash Compactor, cast by the add XD-175 Compactobot has had frequency adjustments:
    • Initial cast delay reduced between 5 and 15 seconds to a consistent 5 seconds
    • Frequency reduced from 30 seconds to 20 seconds
  • Berserk Timer is 6 minutes down from 10

Assembly of Iron

  • Damage and healing of all abilities increased across all raid sizes and modes
  • Rune of Death periodic damage is increased
  • Electrical Charge healing increased
  • Static Disruption has been re-added to the encounter
  • (25 Player) Overwhelming power debuff duration reduced to 25 seconds from 35 seconds
  • (25 Player) Meltdown duration reduced to 25 seconds from 35 seconds

Kologarn

  • Crunch Armor now stacks and the duration is increased to 20 seconds from 6 seconds
  • Focused Eyebeam damage increased
  • Focused Eyebeam may target tanks
  • Focused Eyebeam will no longer whisper players to inform them that “Kologarn focuses his eyes on you!”

  • (10 Player) Rumble damage increased, and range increased from 7 to 10 yards
  • Stone Grip periodic damage increased
  • Stone Shout damage increased
  • (25 Player) Stone Nova damage increased
  • Squeezed Lifeless duration reduced to 10 seconds (up from 15) and will kill players at the end of the duration
  • Falling Rubble will no longer cancel an active cast of Stone Grip.

Auriaya

  • Sanctum Sentry – Strength of the Pack damage buff increased from 30% to 50%
  • Sanctum Sentry – Savage Pounce range increased from 8-25 yards to 8-30 yards
  • (25 Player) Savage Pounce damage increased
  • Seeping Essence Stalker – Seeping Feral Essence damage increased
  • Sonic Screech damage increased
  • Terrifying Screech fear duration increased from 3 to 5 seconds

Hodir

  • Shatter Chest will now occur at 120 seconds rather than 180 seconds.
  • The Mage NPC spell Toasty Fire has an added Initial Cast Delay of 10 seconds
  • The Shaman NPC spell Storm Clould has an added Initial Cast Delay of 27 seconds
    • Developer’s Note: The original delay of these spells had variability. For example Toasty Fire actually had an initial cast delay of 10 to 15 seconds. Given that Hodir is an intense DPS race we don’t want players to feel compelled to reset or wipe in order to get the ideal minimum delay of 10 seconds before the initial cast of Toasty Fire so we’ve removed the upper end of the original delay and guaranteeing the cast at 10. This is still a significant increase to the difficulty of the fight given the strict timer on the Hard-Mode chest.

Thorim

  • (25 Player) Iron Ring Guard will now hit all targets in a 10 yard radius with the spell Whirling Trip instead of just the tank
  • Aura of Celerity no longer buffs the MC’ing Priest’s entire raid and now only buffs the party of the MC’ing Priest
  • Aura of Celerity Radius increased from 30 to 40 yards
  • Chain Lightning may now chain to up to 99 targets (up from ?
    • Developer’s Note: I’m Sorry…
  • Supercharged affects damage of all schools, not just physical
  • Whirling Trip may now chain to up to 5 targets in a 10 yard radius
  • Thorim’s Unbalancing Strike initial cast delay reduced from 15 seconds to 10 seconds and the frequency has increased from every 25 seconds to every 20 seconds.
    • Unbalancing Strike cast has increased in “priority” amongst the boss’s actions
      • Developer’s Note: This makes Unbalancing Strike share cast priority with Chain Lightning. It’s not exactly clear what the implications of this change are but it’s what shows up in the original data. Let’s find out together! Weeeeee!
  • Thorim’s Chain Lightning cast frequency increased to 8 seconds up from 12 seconds
    • Developer’ Note: Thorim will now cast this spell directly instead of buffering it with a target filter that removed potential melee targets if Thorim was just about to or had recently cast the spell Lightning Charge. Sorry Melee…
  • Thorim’s base damage as increased across all raid sizes and difficulties
  • Runic Colossus will not cancel an active cast of Runic Smash when he enters combat.

Freya

  • Tidal Wave’s defense category changed from Magic to None
  • Tidal Wave’s Prevention Category changed from Silence to None
  • Unstable Energy periodic damage increased
  • (25 Player) Brightleaf’s Essence damage buffs to Lashers and Freya increased from 50 to 60%

  • (25 Player) Iron Roots periodic damage increased
  • (25 Player) Stonebark’s Essence damage mod increased from 50 to 75%
  • (25 Player) The ability Displace Roots has been re-added to Guardian Lasher trash mobs leading up to Freya

Freya (Elder Ironbranch)

    • Developer’s Note: This effectively means that certain talents and abilities that prevent or remove roots will not prevent this root effect

Blizzard announced free character moves for Wrath Classic in preparation for the launch of Cataclysm Classic.
      (Source)
      Hey all,
In preparation for the launch of Cataclysm Classic, we will be closing our low-population realms. To prepare for this we are going to be opening Free Character Moves from these realms to other, higher population realms. We are also going to be utilizing the technology introduced recently in Season of Discovery to allow each of our destination realms to hold a far higher number of players than was previously possible.

We will be moving all remaining characters on these realms to a new destination at some point after the launch of Cataclysm Classic. Moving your character before launch will allow you to have a choice of where you end up, so we’d encourage you to do so as soon as possible.

We have the announcement of the Cataclysm Classic pre-patch, which features increased dungeon drops and changes to Gamma dungeons, as well as buffs to legendary material drops and more.
      Cataclysm Classic Pre-Patch (Source)
Get increased dungeon drops in Wrath of the Lich King Classic and take part in the UPrising of gnomes and trolls as they work to reclaim their homelands. Alliance players will heed the call of High Tinker Mekkatorque in Operation Gnomeregan and members of the Horde will be called to Vol’jin’s side as he set his sights on Zalazane and the Echo Isles.
Join their causes and represent your faction with pride during these events!
      Get Increased Dungeon Drops
To celebrate the launch of Operation Gnomeregan and Zalazane's Fall and the coming of Cataclysm Classic, we've made several limited-time adjustments to Defense Protocol: Gamma dungeons as well as the acquisition rate of Heroic tier tokens in 25-player Icecrown Citadel. There are also additional limited-time adjustments to the acquisition rates of Fragments of Val'anyr and Shadowfrost Shards in Ulduar and Icecrown Citadel, respectively.  All Defense Protocol Gamma bosses now drop 2 Defiler's Scourgestones (up from 1.) Here are the changes players can expect:
All Icecrown Citadel 25-player Normal and Heroic bosses are now guaranteed to drop 1 Shadowfrost Shard. All Icecrown Citadel 25-player Normal and Heroic end wing bosses and The Lich King now drop 2 guaranteed Shadowfrost Shards (up from 1.) All Icecrown Citadel 25-player Heroic end wing bosses now drop one additional Heroic tier token. The Lich King now drops 2 additional Heroic tier tokens on 25-player Heroic difficulty. All "Hard Mode" encounters in the 25-player version of Ulduar are now guaranteed to drop 1 Fragment of Val'anyr. Please note that Algalon and "Zero Light" Yogg-Saron are unchanged and drop the same number of Fragments as they did previously as they were already very generous with their Fragment drops. These changes will take effect with each region's regularly occurring maintenance beginning the week of March 26 and will remain in place until the end of the Cataclysm Classic pre-patch period. Alliance: Operation Gnomeregan
With confirmation of the impending attack upon Gnomeregan comes your chance to get involved. Victory begins in Tinker Town! As great citizens of Azeroth and proud members of the Alliance, High Tinker Mekkatorque shall call upon you to serve his gnomes in exile. After all, the best offense is a good... offense! Whether you're a hero of your people and slayer of the most dreadful Burning Legion and Scourge creatures, or an up-and-coming adventurer, you can start by motivating your gnome brethren to unite behind the Gnomeregan banner. All it takes is a bit of finesse with the Motivate-a-Tron to call gnomes to action. The device works flawlessly! After all, what good would it be if such a powerful invention ended up turning Tinker Town citizens into little critters? Almost no good!
With fresh new recruits at your side, Mekkatorque will send you to Steelgrill's Depot, the staging grounds for the Gnomeregan offensive, where you'll meet Captain Sparknozzle. Do as he commands by completing Drill Sergeant Steamcrank's training and testing the operative capabilities of the brand new Mechano-Tanks before they're shipped to the front lines. Seizing Gnomeregan is more important than your fear of heights, which will be put to the test as you're summoned by Pilot Muzzlesprock to neutralize the irradiation vents bruising the Gnomeregan horizon in a critical Radiageigatron bombing run.
Every hero is called to serve! Even if you're just barely getting your bearings on the art of combat in places like Kharanos or Elwynn Forest, you can do your part by helping fuel the war effort. A few dead boars lead to a few more comfortable siege pilot seats, and surely you can handle such a crucial step in the preparation for facing Thermaplugg's poisoned followers. You can even help master wordsmith Toby Zeigear in writing High Tinker Mekkatorque's battle cry. The road to success will be paved by you, and you'll be rewarded as such with a commendation of Gnomeregan Pride, allowing you to temporarily don the uniform of the elite Gnomeregan Infantry.
Thermaplugg is no trifling gnome, though his arrogance will be his undoing! Even still, he is undoubtedly preparing never-before-seen forces to meet this assault. Only the most battle-hardened heroes of the Alliance (levels 75-80) will be called to serve during Operation: Gnomeregan. When Mekkatorque determines the operation is ready to get underway, you must speak with him on the front lines before following him on a full assault of the enemy airfield, surface command post, and into the tunnels of lower Gnomeregan. It is said that Thermaplugg has employed the use of so-called "Brag"-bots to spread his propaganda and hubris. Be not afraid of his words, fellow members of the Alliance. Stick with Mekkatorque and Doc Cogspin to ensure your safety. After all, you wouldn't want to lose the grace of Cogspin's Surgeon General's Warding. Gnomeregan must be cleansed of irradiation and the troggs it was intended to repel. It is time to reclaim this modern marvel and earn your very own Gnomeregan Overcloak, a testament to your historic bravery in the face of madness!
Operation: Gnomeregan is coming, and Gnomeregan needs YOU!
      Horde: Zalazane’s Fall
      "Zalazane Must Fall!" Cries Vol'jin.
Embedded on the coast of Durotar, the tiny troll Village of Sen'jin is bursting with recent activity. In what some claim is a retort to the overblown assertions of the vertically-challenged High Tinker Mekkatorque, troll chieftain Vol'jin has announced his intention to honor the ancestors and take back the troll homeland. The call has been given, and the scattered Darkspear tribe has begun to gather at the once-sleepy location. Now the primal rhythm of beating drums and strange clouds of acrid smoke drift aloft deep into the night, arguably a sign of celebration and preparation for an impending offensive.
With the full support of Thrall and his counterparts, Vol'jin is calling upon all factions of the Horde to prepare for an assault on Echo Isles and the twisted witch doctor Zalazane. He will pay for his crimes against the Darkspears and the land bestowed upon them by Thrall! As explained by Vol'jin in the demand for Zalazane's fall today, honorable members of the Horde passing through the village proper -- whether they've never slain a boar in their lives or are the subject of every dragon's nightmare -- will be given a chance to help their upstanding troll brothers in what will surely be the most brutal of attacks. But first there must be preparation. With the Echo Isles on the line, no detail is too small, no spoken word too trivial. And for that reason the noted troll shaman, Vanira, will get adventurers started on the monumental tasks ahead.
Using sacred totemic rituals, Vanira needs frogs for her agenda. It is unclear of her exact intentions with these amphibious lurkers of Sen'jin, but there appears to be a bat handler standing by. Could it be that frogs will soon rain down from the heavens upon the Echo Isles? When asked for further comment, Vanira only remarked that she's seeking "da perfect spies." It seems war is sometimes won with even the most unlikely of arsenals. Spying on the enemy, however, is only the beginning. Vol'jin has spoken of a most-trusted trainer of reinforcements, Champion Uru'zin, who will guide new recruits of all ranges of experience into battle-hardened Darkspear warriors. "Trollin' for volunteers," as Vol'jin remarked, will be a key component to building a strike force capable of overthrowing Zalazane's hexed Darkspears.
Vol'jin argues that the spirits are on the side of his Darkspear tribe. Can animistic beliefs truly manifest into proven battle leverage against Zalazane? Perhaps only Vanira and her beguiled spies can answer this. But it is rumored that, long ago, a tribe of troll druids once called the Echo Isles home. If ever there was a time for good omens such as this, it is now. Only if the spirits truly are on the side of the son of Sen'jin, reportedly only a phenomenon that Witch Doctor Hez'tok can decipher, then the assault will commence! Those who assist Hez'tok in his ceremony will be adorned with Darkspear Pride, allowing adventurers the ability to take on the form of an elite Darkspear Warrior during battle. Wearing such battle garb is an honor to the ancestors of a people long persecuted and plagued by war between tribes.
Should the spirits give their blessing to Vol'jin, Champion Uru'zin will call for all seasoned veterans of the Horde levels 75-80 to aid in the attack. If "at last, everythin' be ready," as Vol'jin put it, his plan is to launch a full assault from the shores of Sen'jin village. Vol'jin has also gone so far as to offer a particularly rare Sen'jin Overcloak to those who help bring Zalazane down.
Preparations for Zalazane's fall are underway, but will it be enough to best this witch doctor? It's time, proud members of the Horde, to stand with your disaffected troll brethren and recognize the full might of the Darkspear tribe!

We have more rewards from the Plunderstorm to take a look at, as Wrath/Cataclysm Classic players have a new pet and mount to look forward to! MrGM did some more digging and found Pinchy and Polly Roger would be available in Wrath Classic (we won't give away which is which, it's a complex mystery!)
So just how much Renown will you need to get in 10.2.6's new event for these Classic rewards? Well, pretty much all of them, as the mount is all the way down at Renown 39, out of 40. The pet is earlier on the track, so if you don't want a flying parrot you'll only need to get to rank 11.
The pet and mount are the same as their Dragonflight counterparts.

Blizzard is adding teleports to Shadowfang Keep for both Horde and Alliance in Wrath Classic, for the Love is in the Air event. The NPCs are the ones in faction capitals for the event.

We’ve had enough of traveling to Shadowfang Keep.
With a hotfix that will go live to all realms soon, Inspector Snip Snagglebolt and Detective Snap Snagglebolt will begin offering free Shadowfang Keep teleports to Alliance and Horde players respectively.
Just talk to them to get underway.
