Are Gear Rewards from Open World Content in Dragonflight Too Random?

Recommended Posts

FiNG9l4WIAAIntc.jpg

Since the beginning of Dragonflight, players have been receiving gear they cannot equip from open-world content, such as Community Feasts, Siege of the Dragonbane Keep, and more.

While it's fine to receive gear for your off-spec, players have been receiving items they either cannot equip or that are intended for other roles, since Dragonflight launched.

Reddit user realnzall received an Agility Fist Weapon on their Paladin from the Community Feast event in Iskaara.

Another player received a Hunter Gun on their Druid.

Rares and Super Rares have fixed loot tables. Quinzz got a Hunter Crossbow on their Boomkin.

Redditor Good-Expression-4433 got a Melee DPS trinket from the soup event and multiple melee DPS trinkets on their Warlock.

Did you receive gear you can't use from doing World Quests in Dragonflight?

From World Quests specifically, no. The gear rewards from those are appropriate for my class. Everything else though? Yeah. I’d say I’ve received more unusable gear than usable gear from open world rares etc.

It is for one of specs if gear comes from world quests. However, it is different if drop comes from rare mobs, very often there is some useless stuff. Loot should have remained personal and drop stuff only for currently selected spec. This is more annoying in LFR, where items that no one in the group can or want to use may often drop.

On the one hand wrong-spec like "agility sword to a mage" is disenchant bait.   On the other if it's BOE it's guildie stuff or AH worthy.

On the next tentacle I'm pretty sure it'd be nice if we could trade wrong gear for a few minutes past the feast.  In the, um, spirit of community and all.

You mean like the ICC bosses "here have a shoulder widget, btw it's still soulbound, now go be a good tyke and chase up the vendor whose name you don't know"

We have enough problems with jerks already, we don't need the loot system pointing and laughing too.

I've been getting random drops since start of the expansion. Trial of Elements, Super Rares, Rares, Community Feasts & Sieges, all of them. Even 1 world quest exists that gives wrong spec intellect 1H weapon; even when you're specced into tank or dps. And similar world quest arrives each week giving a different intellect 1H weapon or Agility Polearm.

It's one of the oddest hidden changes. Why were they not transparent about rares not giving useful loot is intended? Instead they make people run around and wondering if something is wrong.

The past few expansions, you have always recieved either nothing or useful gear. Now you can get nothing, useless gear or useful gear rarely.

Was doing the super rares almost daily; simply you recieve 50 reputation each from the 4 that spawn in Brakenhide for Tuskar.  But the loot I would very rarely get something associated for use for my DH.  More than likely it would either be cloth, plate, or a crossbow.  Over near the Obsidian Citadel and Dragonkeep I would get more mail drops or a polearm.  Not upset about I just vendor the unusable items for some gold and call it a day.

I would say that's fine for rares/chests, makes transmog farming way better, but for chests from activities and such, nah that should be catered to spec/class

Created this account just to moan too.

On release and upon hitting 70 on my Hunter Main, I farmed the "Special Rare Mobs" in Azure Span, Ancient and Obsidian Throne.
This was alongside participating in the Grand Hunts, Tuskarr Feast and Siege on Dragonbane Keep.

I received amazing loot including:

  • Shields
  • Plate Chest
  • Plate Helm
  • Caster Staffs
  • Polearms (Well.... i could Play survival if I was dropped on my head)
  • Cloth Helms
  • Leather Legs
  • Leather Gloves

I, to this day, still never saw a Gun, Crossbow or Bow after Dozens of Kills, I got a couple of Trinkets which were nice.
But no Mail armor, no rings, no necks which were actually close or even near my ilvl.

The Work to Reward ratio was appalling.

And what was disheartening was seeing a Druid receive a 392 Crossbow while I was sat with a 372 Bow from a Weekly Quest for Sabellion quest because of luck with RNG.

I think it's more the effect it has on players. When receiving an epic gear reward players tend to get pumped and see what they got. That huge burst of excitement quickly turns into huge disappointment when you find out it's something completely unusable for you and is basically just vendor trash. I had the same thing multiple times already and it's not the feeling you want players to have. Nobody here is asking for free easy loot, just to get rid of that effect which is completely understandable and easily accomplished without increasing the chance for loot.

Executive Producer Holly Longdale teased some upcoming experimental PvE-focused content that Blizzard will soon reveal to the community.
It appears that Plunderstorm isn't the only new mode Blizzard plans to add to WoW this year.
Holly Longdale today teased an upcoming PvE-oriented event that will soon be revealed to us. Holly might be talking about the "Timerunning Pandamonium," expected in Patch 10.2.7.

      Greetings Citizens of Azeroth,
It’s been great seeing so many players taking the plunge into Plunderstorm and we’ve loved seeing all of the stories and feedback as this experimental event evolves. It will be exciting to see some of the community content creators going head-to-head as duos during the Plunderstorm Creator Royale on March 30!  This isn’t the end of the things we want to try in World of Warcraft, however, and we have more in store we can’t wait to show you.
Dragonflight Season 4 is in route as testing begins on the PTR and we’ll have more news to share soon™ on the next experiment we have up our sleeves. We hope those of you who are looking for PvE focused content will enjoy what we’re planning, all while we continue to press forward on development of our next expansion for World of Warcraft— The War Within.
We can’t wait to share with you all the many things the team has been hard at work on.
With gratitude and excitement for what we’ll do together next,
      Holly Longdale
