Best Diablo 2 Assassin Class Build in Ladder Season 4

Recommended Posts

The Assassin class is a great choice for players looking for a beginner-friendly class and versatile play style. Thanks to its synergy bonuses from both Lightning and Fire-based attacks, it can make easy work of most enemies regardless of their immunities, especially Fire Immune monsters which is vital as is our main source of damage, but it does come at a slight cost.

The Assassin class is not great at taking on Great Act bosses and is often weak against high-life targets unless you're getting health buffs from teammates of items. This ultimately makes the glass a bit of a glass cannon, but it can succeed when paired with the right build, and that's where the Fire Blast build comes in.

The Fire Blast Assassin is our pick for the best build as it employs Fire Blast, a powerful explosion attack that also synergizes with lightning damage despite being a fire-based attack. It also uses the Death Sentry to deal damage over distance or over a small area that synergizes to increase your Fire Blast damage.

The Barbarian class is best known for its unrivaled power when it comes to elite hunting or sniping to find unique items in Diablo 2, especially as a single player. With all the abilities at its disposal, this class is a loot-farming monster, and with the right build, it becomes even better.
Because the Barbarian class would not benefit at all from the new Sunder Charms implemented in the game, our build focuses on increasing its magic damage output as well as beefing up its defenses, making it last longer on the field. With the Concentrate ability, we can boost our physical damage and attack strength with our chosen weapon, as well as the Natural Resistance ability that grants an increase to all resistances depending on your level.
Blade Mastery and Increased Speed also give us passive damage and attack rate boosts, along with a faster run/walk speed, letting us position ourselves better on the field. To get more in-depth, below we've broken down each skill and slot item; you'll need to create the optimal Berserk Barbarian class.

The Sorceress is similar to most other classes in Diablo 2, being that it has its pros and cons. What makes this class stand out above the rest is that it doesn't require much time or item investment to become powerful, it has a fast-paced playstyle, and it has tons of end-game potential.

Where the Sorceress falls short is in its survivability and noticeable learning curb. But if you take the time to develop the Blizzard Sorceress build as outlined below and learn how to manage this class's weaknesses, it's a class you can take into almost any battle.

The build we've chosen for the Blizzard Sorceress incorporates Sunder Charms, which allows you to reduce the resistance an enemy has to your type of damage. The build also increases your cold resistance while buffing your damage and, most importantly, giving you extra defense to survive battles for longer periods.

The Amazon build we use for the Lightning Fury Amazon implements Sunder Charms that negate the issue of enemies that are fully immune to Lightning damage. It makes them vulnerable to the element and your attacks, but it also makes you vulnerable to Lightning attacks.

To combat this, we also use items to increase our enemy lightning resistance as well as add some extra defense and boost our damage output. Below you can find the full spec sheet of all the gear we use for the most optimized Lightning Fury Amazon build for Diablo 2 Ladder Season 4.

The Necromancer is considered one of the overpowered classes in the game. With its fast-paced playstyle, it can overwhelm enemies in an onslaught of attacks, and using its ability to pump out incredible amounts of Poison, Fire, and Physical Area of Effect (AoE) Damage within a single Skill Rotation makes it almost impossible to fend off. Couple all this with the fact that it is dealing this damage over a wide area, while on the move, the Necromancer class is a monster evaporator.

That said, no class is perfect, and the Necromancer does suffer from being a difficult class to master with a steep learning curb. It's also quite weak early game, only coming into its own mid-late game, and it's not the best at dealing tons of damage on boss fights. However, we can set up the optimal build for the class to negate some of these issues and create a Necromancer that will be feared in D2R Ladder Season 4.

The Paladin is a solid build for players looking to fight from the rear or who want to deal tons of radial and damage with high mobility and a fast-paced playstyle. When accompanied by the Fist of The Heavens build, it becomes a powerful class ideal for wiping out tons of enemies at once and raining constant damage on your enemies.

It does have some flaws, however, with the main one being that the class has a complicated set of skilled mechanics and a repetitive skill set. It also requires high APM to use, but there are way around these flaws which we'll discuss below.

The build we've chosen for the Paladin is the Fist of Heaven's Paladin, which focuses mainly on range casting and single-player sniping/farming. It does benefit from the Sunder Charms mechanism in the game, but thanks to its Holy Bolt ability it deals tons of magic damage, and any enemies that are immune to magic will likely be damaged either way because of the Holy attribute the attack has.

The Druid is an excellent class to take into Ladder Season 4 as it sports a high damage output on either single targets or groups of enemies. It's also lauded for being an easy class to master and makes chaining abilities together fun and intuitive. However, it does have some downsides.

The Druid class has relatively low mobility, and its fast in-your-face style of play can leave you open to taking damage yourself if you aren't careful. However, there are workarounds to this, and those are what we'll be using in our pick for the best Druid build below, the Fissure Druid.

Best Diablo 2 Resurrected Druid Build: Fissure Druid

The Fissure Druid takes fire damage and cranks it up to 11, with its Fissure and Armaggedon abilities that deal tons of damage over a wide AoE (Area of Effect), which can clear out a pack of enemies with ease. Its single target damage dealer, Firestorm, paired with abilities such as Molten Boulder and Volcano can be used while your other abilities are on cooldown, making you an unstoppable force of nature.

The Poison Nova Necromancer build is the hidden gem of Necromancer builds in Diablo 2: Resurrected.
Over time, players figured out that Poison Nova has insane AoE damage potential through scaling with +Skills items. Together with the flexible Corpse Explosion skill and tremendous Curses utility, this build turns into one of the best Magic Find builds in the game.Let's find out the best Skill Rotation and Leveling Skills for Poison Nova Necromancer.
      Skill Rotation
This is your general endgame spell rotation. Cast Lower Resist to decrease monster poison resistance, then cast Poison Nova. If this doesn't kill all minions on the screen, look for corpses and finish off the remaining enemies with Corpse Explosion. With proper endgame gear, you can skip casting Lower Resist and directly cast Poison Nova since your endgame gear will have a multitude of "- enemy poison resistance" properties.
In terms of defenses, You should always try to keep up your Bone Armor. While this version of the Poison Nova Necromancer build runs Revive support, you should always keep your defenses up, especially while farming endgame content.
In addition to that, your Golem of choice, as well as your Curses, will make your life in the leveling stages much easier.
      Leveling Skill
Early Poison leveling can be quite a pain, so you'd want to rely on an early Skeleton or Teeth/Bone Spear build until Level ~35.
On Level 35, you can respec into a starter Poison Nova Necromancer build. Your initial skill point allocation could look something like this:
Summoning Spells: 1 Raise Skeleton, 9 Skeleton Mastery, 1 Raise Skeletal Mage, 1 Clay Golem, 1 Golem Mastery, 1 Summon Resist, 1 Blood Golem, 1 Iron Golem, 1 Revive.
Poison and Bone Spells: 1 Teeth, 1 Corpse Explosion, 16 Poison Dagger, 1 Poison Explosion, 1 Poison Nova
Curses: 1 Amplify Damage, 1 Weaken, 1 Terror, 1 Iron Maiden, 1 Life Tap, 1 Decrepify, 3 Lower Resist
From there on, your skill point priority should look as follows: Poison Nova > Poison Explosion > Poison Dagger (if you haven't maxed) > Corpse Explosion
Everything after that is a bonus - Iron Golem, better Lower Resist, Dim Vision for endgame farming, and so on. You may want to respec those points put into Skeleton Mastery as well.

To access the Uber Tristram event, players need to collect three sets of keys: the Key of Terror, the Key of Hate, and the Key of Destruction. A specific boss drops each key on Hell difficulty: the Countess drops the Key of Terror, the Summoner drops the Key of Hate, and Nihlathak drops the Key of Destruction. The drop rate of each key is low, so players may need to farm them for a long time.
Among the three keys, the Key of Destruction is arguably the most difficult and dangerous. Nihlathak is a formidable foe who can cast powerful spells and summon deadly minions. Moreover, Nihlathak is located in the Halls of Vaught, a maze-like area full of traps and enemies. Therefore, players who want more destruction keys must prepare well and follow some tips and tricks.
Here are some suggestions on how to get more destruction keys in Diablo 2 Resurrected:
Choose a Suitable Character Class and Build
Some classes and builds are more effective than others in farming destruction keys. For example, a sorceress with teleport skills can quickly navigate through the Halls of Vaught and reach Nihlathak. A barbarian with find item skill can increase the chance of getting a key from Nihlathak's corpse. A necromancer with summoning skills can create an army of minions to distract and damage Nihlathak.
Equip Yourself with Proper Gear and Charms
Some items and charms can enhance your survivability and damage output against Nihlathak. For example, items with cold resistance can reduce the damage from Nihlathak's frost nova spell. Items with magic find can increase the chance of getting a key from Nihlathak. Charms with life or resistance can boost your health and defenses in D2R.
Use the Halls of Pain Waypoint
The Halls of Pain waypoint is the closest waypoint to Nihlathak's location. If you have this waypoint, you can save time and avoid unnecessary fights by using it to enter the Halls of Vaught directly. If you don't have this waypoint, you need to rescue Anya first and then use her portal to enter Nihlathak's Temple.
Learn the Layout of the Halls of Vaught
The Halls of Vaught is a randomly generated area with four possible paths leading to Nihlathak. However, there is a way to determine which approach is correct without exploring them all. The trick is to look at the shape of the entrance to each path. The correct path will always have an entrance that is shaped like a square or a rectangle. The other paths will have entrances that are shaped like a triangle or a pentagon.
Avoid or Deal with Nihlathak's Minions
Nihlathak can summon two types of minions: viper magi and death lords. The viper magi are snake-like creatures that can shoot lightning bolts and poison clouds. The Death Lords are large skeletons that can deal massive physical damage and knockback. Both types of minions can pose a threat to your character, especially if they surround you or block your escape route. Therefore, it is advisable to either avoid them or kill them quickly before engaging Nihlathak.
      Beware of Nihlathak's Spells
Nihlathak can cast three spells: frost nova, corpse explosion, and decrepify. Frost nova is a cold-based spell that can freeze and damage you in a large radius. A corpse explosion is a fire-based spell that can detonate any nearby corpses and damage you. Decrepify is a curse that can slow down your movement speed, attack speed, and damage output. All three spells can be deadly if you are not careful or prepared.
      Use Hit-and-Run Tactics Against Nihlathak
Nihlathak has a high amount of health and defense, so it may take some time to kill him. Moreover, he can heal himself by using potions or casting Life Tap on his minions. Therefore, it is recommended to use hit-and-run tactics against him, where you attack him briefly and then retreat to avoid his spells or heal yourself. You can also use ranged attacks or summons to damage him from a safe distance.
Trade Destruction Keys for Other Keys
If you have more destruction keys than you need or find it too hard or tedious to farm them, you can trade them for other keys with other players. Destruction keys are usually in high demand, as they are the rarest and most valuable of the three keys. You can use online platforms, such as forums or discord servers, to find other players who are willing to trade keys with you.

The Assassin class is extremely useful for beginner players, thanks to its easy-to-gasp skills and spam-friendly abilities, but also for the more seasoned players among us, thanks to its insane versatility. This makes the class a great pick for D2R Ladder Season 5, but with the new updates coming, there is something you need to take into consideration.
The most recent patch notes for the game delve into what we can expect for Season 5, and while there won't be much content added, there will be a massive change made to the No Hit Delay or NHD system. As a short TL;DR, the developers have given many skills in the game a set "delay value", and when enemies are hit with one of these attacks, they will become impervious to other sources of damage for the time reflected in the attack's "delay value." This affects a few of the Assassin's abilities for this build specifically, but don't fret as we'll point these abilities out and provide you with a solution that can alleviate the issue.
Best Martial Arts Phoenix Strike Build
For this build, we've gone with a mainline combo using Fists of Fire, Claws of Thunder, and Blades of Ice which all synergize and all have charge states. Then we have the hallmark of the build, Phoenix strike, which grants you insane damage elemental damage with finishing moves and is the main damage skill for the build.
Now it should be noted that Claws of Thunder and Phoenix Strike are both affected by the new NHD system, which means you'll need to move around some skills points to get the most out of them due to their delays. You could also swap them out for other abilities, but it would ultimately weaken the build. So to stick with it, below is the full showcase of the skills used in this build and with the best configuration of skill points to account for the NHD system patch and its delay drawbacks.
      Which Mercenary To Use
Mercenaries are a vital aspect of your build as well since they can draw aggro, debuff enemies, and even buff your characters or heal them. In Act 2 of Nightmare difficulty, you have the option to recruit a Desert Guard Mercenary who can either specialize in defense (Holy Freeze) or offense (Might). This choice will determine whether you want to slow down monsters to increase your safety or enhance your Mercenary's overall damage.
Regardless of your choice, the best gear we've found to work with this mercenary build is listed below:
      Weapon: Ethereal Infinity
      Body Armor: Ethereal Fortitude
Helm: Ethereal Andariel's Visage socketed with a Ral Rune
If your Mercenary dies during battle, you can bring them back to life by speaking with a Mercenary NPC in any Act. But remember that the cost of reviving them increases each time they die, and if they die too frequently, the cost can be as high as 50,000 gold.

There is a team that is doing so that is called Project Diablo 2. Project Diablo 2 is a group of people that are passionate about the original Diablo 2 game and are adding mods so the game can run even better. One addition they recently made is that Diablo 2 will now run at 60 FPS. This will make Diablo 2 run a lot smoother during highly intense gameplay.
As we mentioned before, Diablo 2 running at 60 FPS is not official. Downloading the original Diablo 2 game through Blizzard will not get you a game that has 60 FPS. Players will have to download the game and follow the instructions provided by the Project Diablo 2 team. Project Diablo 2 gives players a pretty good reason to get back into the older game.
For starters, the Project Diablo 2 team wanted to make sure that all of the classes are balanced. If you play the original Diablo 2, there are some classes that are not that good, but with this new project, you can experience a much more balanced game. The Project Diablo 2 team plans on regularly updating their mods, so maybe more graphical mods are coming in the future.
