Level 50 Hardcore Character Killed by Level 6 Mobs

Recommended Posts

There really is no safe place in Classic Hardcore. We've seen bank alts get killed by griefers spawning mobs in capital cities, many players recently lost their characters to server instability, even Ouro decided to clone himself to take players out! Then there's the usual DC/afk deaths, Mak'gora's and, of course, the ever-present drownings. And now we have to add mobs 44 levels lower than you to the list!

Bozzy253 had a busy day working from home, and so decided to do something very passive and safe. Training the Mage's defense skill in Tirisfal Glades on their level 50 seemed like a good half-AFK thing to do. That is, until some technical issues turned the whole plan into a catastrophe.

While level 6 mobs don't do much to a level 50 (even if they're a clothie), they still do some damage. After getting down to 50% HP against the 4 mobs while monitoring their character, just as they were about to kill them and eat back to full, bozzy's graphics card died. Only a black screen remained and panic set in, with the usual bashing of all possible damage skills in the hope something would register. After a restart the PC barely even worked, with 1 FPS everywhere, the card was well and truly fried. And after a quick trip to the wife's computer the worst was confirmed: the Mage had died to 4 level 6 mobs.

And the worst part? Bozzy Mage had only 2 defense points left to go...

Level 50 mage died to level 6 mobs training defense skill - PC crash death

So let that be a lesson to you: nothing is safe in Classic Hardcore. NOTHING.

why didnt he opened his account on his wife pc the moment all went black ?

It would be faster that way ! he would dc from his pc and login almost instantly to save his char!

I guess paniking was the real reason he lost his char 😞

I will just say don't play hardcore on wi-fi. Death by interference from a random microwave being turned on in the same block is a very common thing.

In general, if your microwave is interfering with your wifi then there is a problem with the microwave. The microwaves should not be leaking out and the electromagnetic interference should not extend beyond 10 feet or so. As long as your router is at least 10 feet from the microwave you should be fine. Additionally, whatever PC or laptop you are using should be kept at least 10 feet away as well.

This.  There are electrical standards that expect devices to not emit Interference, and also to be Resilient to any interference received.

Graphic card losing it in that way was probably a short after overheat.  Melted chips let out all the blue smoke.

re: 10 ft away -  you aren't playing Hardcore Classic in the kitchen while zapping a hotdog.  I hope.

The moment he chose to spam all the attacks and pray instead of detach his computer from the internet was probably still  the better prayer.

Unless the key he spammed was ice brick and his wifey saw wtf was going on and was already lighting up her machine - it was already too late.

If she had to log out of hers to let him on, that's enough time to go down in history.

(I'm not clear if the first symptom was a blacked out screen, or that's just when he knew it was over, and panicked)

Well my laptop is 2 meters away from my router and 2 meters away from my microwave. No idea how much that is in feet.

A meter is a little over 3 feet so, your laptop and router could use a little more distance from the microwave to avoid interference.

With pleasure. I will just need to buy a bigger house first.

Lol.

Another option is to hardwire to the router. Cat6 cable has better shielding from interference, and the pairs are thicker and twisted tighter than cat5.

Yeah definitely. Cable > wifi any time. I just prefer to not have cables going in the walls and in the room if I can avoid it. I will just log out when I play hardcore and turn on the microwave for now. :)

The Warlock tank/transform rune has been found! Warlocks can once again turn into big purple demons in Season of Discovery, and we now know how to do it. Metamorphosis was the final missing rune of the 108, as all have now been found!

Smutz was talking to and showing EU player Fnyyf's quest completion on his Metamorphosis quest chain, but there was another that got there first, as NA player Buzzbin managed to complete the chain a little faster. Here's Snutz going through how to get the rune, which included Shadowfang Keep, the new Blackfathom Deeps raid and more. You can also start the video from the beginning for the entire journey.
And here's the whole process written down:

Congratulations to the first two recipients and now we'll see plenty more! Here are the spell's stats:
      Metamorphosis
Transform into a Demon, increasing Armor by 500%, reducing the chance you will be critically hit by 6%, increasing your threat by 50%, increasing mana gained from Life Tap by 100%, transforming the functionality of some of your abilities, and granting some new abilities:

      Searing Pain: Now instant.
Shadow Bolt: Becomes Shadow Cleave, a Shadow melee attack that hits up to 3 nearby enemies, but has a 6 sec cooldown.

      Fear: Replaced with Menace.
Taunts the target to attack you, but has no effect if the target is already attacking you.

      Demon Charge
Charge an enemy and stun it for 1 sec.  Cannot be used in combat.

      Demonic Howl
Forces all nearby enemies to focus attacks on you for 6 sec.

The implementation of the rune system in Season of Discovery brought an interesting side effect with it. You can actually lose your ability if the item the rune is slotted into breaks!
This makes sense generally speaking, considering SoD runes are basically just very powerful enchants that grant an ability, but spells and abilities aren't normally affected by things like this, so it may come as a surprise to players.
Another interesting aspect of this is that due to the low level cap of 25, there are no repair bots available, and there won't be for quite a while. So, make sure to always repair when you see an NPC with the option, or you may just lose your abilities, including potential tanking buffs and other wipe-causing effects!

None of the Above have achieved the world's first Blackfathom Deeps raid clear just 18 hours after Season of Discovery launch.
While the vast majority is still fighting the login boss, some have not only reached Level 25 but have also cleared the first Level 25 raid of Phase 1 - Blackfathom Deeps. Congrats to None of the Above!

Blizzard have detailed some initial changes they're making to Season of Discovery, mostly to runes, but also to Ashenvale PvP and more.
      SoD (Source)
Over the first 24 hours of Season of Discovery, we made a few discoveries of our own that resulted in design changes. We expect that most players haven’t seen much of this yet, but want to note it for reference.
      Season of Discovery
Healing caused by Arcane Explosion reduced by 80%. We did not intend for Mage healing to trivialize content. The Explosive Shot rune ability has been redesigned and its damage dramatically decreased. Each time it deals damage, it now damages all enemies within 8 yards of the primary target. Chimera Shot damage reduced to 85% weapon damage. When it comes to output, Hunters are proving to be an outlier. With these changes, Explosive Shot should fill the AOE niche and Hunters should still be very strong, but also more in-line with the output of other classes at level 25. Adjustments have been made to the Ashenvale PvP event to allow it to start a bit easier. Please be reminded that there will not be much intrigue here until Ashenvale is teeming with level 25 players. Numerous fixes have been made to Rune acquisitions to make them less prone to bottlenecking. Fixed a bug with Twilight Lord Kelris in Blackfathom Deeps that was causing him to target pets with his abilities too often, including his Sleep ability, which should no longer target pets at all. Fixed a bug with Aku’mai’s Void Elemental adds that caused their Shadowbolt Volley ability to deal incorrect damage. Going forward, if we need to make changes that will impact gameplay, we’ll note them in our usual Hotfixes Update.
We encourage you to let us know about any bugs you encounter using the in-game Bug Reporter.
      Thank you!

Blizzard has locked Living Flame and Lone Wolf SoD realms to new players in the EU region. Crusader Strike (US) follows the same pattern. Players who wish to enjoy PvP should select the Chaos Bolt realm.
For those who already have characters on said realms, you should see no change.
