The WeakAuras Crackdown Is Real

Recommended Posts

When Blizzard wants to prevent players from tracking specific boss mechanics with WeakAuras, they label them as 'Private Auras'. While Aberrus had only 3 such abilities, the upcoming raid, Amirdrassil, features a staggering 20 Private Auras.

The WeakAuras crackdown seems to be real in Guardians of the Dream. As initially reported by Wowhead, the new 10.2 raid introduces a total of 20 Private Auras.

To put this into perspective, Aberrus had just 3.

Fyrakk, the final boss of Patch 10.2, boasts 12 abilities marked as Private Auras, making them untrackable by players. These include:

Blizzard introduced their anti-WeakAuras tech in Patch 10.1 making it easier for them to hide specific auras from addons.

The Race to World First kicks off on November 14 when Amirdrassil opens on live servers. Let's see if the bosses will be more difficult when players cannot track so many mechanics, at least Fyrakk that hasn't even been tested on the 10.2 PTR!

I think this is pretty great.

The difference between WF and everyone else shouldn't depend in any way on who wrote better software to play the game for them.

RWF players arent better because they use better software. In fact, most players who attempt these fights use weakauras written by the RWF players. What this change does is force players to react to the game, rather than simply using a weakaura to trivialize the content. Which sounds great on paper, but anyone who has wiped on mythic Echo 300 times will tell you, doesn't always work in practice.

Agreed. The best content pushers are ahead of the curve in addons, when it should just be tactics and the occasional ("oops") exploit. 3rd party addons should help, not guide. Doing AoTC/CE back in Wrath and Cata we did that *filtered* with communication and DBM timers at best. GIT GUD!

Hope they follow this by reducing the difficulty too then.
We have had insanely difficult fights to compete with DBM, Wigs and/or WA over the years... People without addons simply can't compete on the same level without addons.
So, if they are going to make everything untrackable by addons, I hope they make them instead easier to comprehend WITHOUT addons.

This. Addons have been required because theyve been making mechanics specifically to try to beat the addons. It was an arms race that meant without weak auras you couldnt do the mechanic, but with weak auras they had to make them that strong. This change is the best for everyone IN THEORY. Execution always matters.

IamEllekk recreated Eversong Woods using Houdini and Blender and here's the result.
As you can see in the below image, we have the characteristic Blood Elf architecture and the Burning Crystal.

We're back in the department of fortunate loot drops, this time, with Tindral Sageswift dropping four copies of the same item.
Tindral blessed a very lucky raid group with 4 pieces of Eternal Kindler's Greatstaff. While this isn't the record-breaking group who looted 5 Smoldering Seedlings from Larodar, it's still nice to see good old Tindral handing so many copies of the same item!

Today's retail hotfixes bring not only the Tindral Mythic nerf, but more Amirdrassil and dungeon changes, item improvements and quest fixes! No more tabard spam!

Throne of the Tides Updated the model used by the Ink of Ozumat to reduce the visual effects at its base. Fixed an issue where a Seeking Inferno could explode twice on Mythic difficulty. Tindral Sageswift Fallen Feathers now spawn 6 feathers on Mythic Difficulty (was 4). Items
Fixed an issue that caused the Large Renown bag of Dragon Isles Supplies to always unintentionally contain a Dream Wardens Tabard. Fixed an issue that could cause Gift of Urctos to fail to grant its bonuses. Quests
Fixed an issue preventing “Something Different” from being properly completed by PvP Brawls. Fixed an issue causing a Hunt choice to be unintentionally greyed out for “Aiding the Accord: The Hunt is On”.
